Chapter 1 – Beginning of a New Era
My name is Thalia. To look at me, you wouldn't think I was anything "special". I lived a somewhat normal life, had a mom and a dad, a little sister, and we owned a dog – a husky, to be exact, named Thor (you guessed it, after one of the coolest Avengers ever). My dad was a scientist. He experimented on all sorts of things. He had this strange MRI looking machine, it whirred and glowed when switched to "on", one day I was observing my dad studying it. He didn't know I was there, but my curiosity was bigger than my caution. When he walked out to go upstairs for dinner, I snuck into the lab, marveling at the ominous, mysterious machine that stood before me. I stupidly decided to lay down on the table that was attached to the machine, accidentally bumping the switch as I did so. The machine turned on, and the energy that radiated from it enter my brain and rearranged the chemicals and neurons, giving me the weirdest ability that most people would call: telekinesis. My dad raced downstairs and rushed to my side.
"Oh my God, Thalia. What happened? Are you okay?" He placed his hand on my arm but sharply pulled it away, wincing. "What the hell?" His eyes were wide. "Thalia, you're buzzing with electricity! H-how do you feel..?" He backed away slightly.
I looked down at my hands, flipping them over and back, examining my arms, and paying attention to how my body felt. I felt a weird buzzing sensation in my head and in my hands, but I didn't know why. I closed my eyes and shook my head slightly. It was like when you got a ringing in your ears, but very subtle, almost completely unnoticeable.
"Thalia," my father moved closer to me.
"No! Don't come any closer!" I held my hand out, and as I did so, my dad flew back against the wall, falling to the floor with a thud.
I gasped. What just happened? I raced to his side, careful to not touch him for fear I'd hurt him more. "Are you all right?" I asked urgently. "I don't know what happened." I looked down at my hands again. They were glowing this time. Faintly, but it was pretty obvious.
"What is happening to me?" I said softly, my heart racing with worry and fearful for what this could mean.
