Ellie

“I am so proud of you, honey,” my mother said.

I took her hand and smiled at her, “Thanks, mom.”

I held back my tears; my mother was lying on a bed in the hospital. She was not feeling well for quite some time, and every time I would tell her to go to the hospital, she wouldn’t go. Yesterday, I visited her at home and found her unconscious in her bed. I immediately rushed her to the hospital. They just told us that she has stage 2 breast cancer. My heart dropped when the doctor announced it. I still can’t believe it.

“I’m here,” my stepsister came into the room. She got on the first plane back here. My stepfather couldn’t be here until later tonight, but he was coming. My mom remarried when I was seven years old. My father died in a car accident when I was only five years old. I miss him; not a day how’s by without me thinking about him.

I got up and walked over to my sister; I pulled her out of the room. I didn’t want mom to have to hear it all over again.

“She has stage 2 breast cancer,” I informed her. I saw her face fall; she loved my mother as if she were her biological mother.

“Ellie, what are we going to do,” she asked me?

“I need you to stay with her; I have a job interview, it pays a lot of money, and we will need it. I want to be by her side” I was conflicted. My mother needed me, but we would also need money for treatment. We cannot rely on just dad for money; he has other bills to take care of. Amelia and I were going to have to step up.

“Go, I’ll stay with her. Just knock them dead” Amelia hugged me, and I hugged her back. I went back into the room, kissed my mother, and told her I would be back. Then, I took off out of the room and out of the hospital. I was going to be so late for this interview. I got to my mother’s car and practically sped to get there.

The job title was a personal assistant. It did not list who I would be assisting, but they did say that he was very important and private. The job pays 100k a month; I could not pass that up. Now that I know my mother needs it, I need this job more than ever.

I finally arrived; I was ten minutes late. I pulled up to the gate and pressed the buzzer.

“Can I help you?” someone said.

“I have a job interview for Mr. Pierson,” I replied. There was a pause, and then the gate opened, and I drove through. The house was so far away from the street that it took me a minute to drive up the driveway to the house. When I did get up to the house, my jaw dropped. The house was stunning. It was a black and white two maybe three-story house if it had a basement. The windows were massive and must have let in a lot of sunlight. This house was magnificent.

I parked the car and got out. The driveway was huge; it could fit maybe 10 to 15 cars in it all at once. Also, it was a four-car garage. I walked up to the enormous all-black double doors and knocked. I waited for a second or two, and then the door opened.

A young woman stood at the door, ” Ms. Richardson, I presume.”

“Yes, that’s me” I smiled. She gave me a quick nod and then told me to follow her. The foyer was huge. Believe it or not, there was an actual fountain in the middle of the room, and on either side were two monumental staircases that curved. I followed the lady down the hall to take in all the scenery. This house was beautifully decorated. I wonder if the Mrs. of the house decorated it?

She stopped in what seemed to be a living room. “Wait here,” she said. I nodded and sat down on the chair. She went to two more double doors and knocked, then went in. She closed the door, so I could not hear the conversation. I got up and walked to the window. I knew it let in a lot of sunlight. I looked out back, and a lounge area looked to be screened in. There was also a basketball court, a full court at that. Then there was the pool; it was such a vast pool. Who lives here?

“You do realize you are late,” a voice called out. I jumped hard and turned around. When I saw who it was, I let out a gasp.

He was so handsome, even with me standing far away. He wore a black designer suit, and he looked so sexy in it. His hair was pulled back out of his face but neatly done. He stood with one hand in his pocket, and the other hand just let loose at his side. Not only that but he was the famous bachelor, Noah Pierson.

“I do, and I’m sorry,” I finally spoke up. He watched me closely, and I watched him back.

He turned on his heel and proceeded back to where he came from, “Follow me.”

I quickly followed after him and into the room he came out of. It was an office, not too big of an office either. In the middle of the room sat a desk, his chair, and two chairs in front of his desk. There was a door to the left of his desk. A large window behind his desk. A couch and a mounted tv. Still, the office was nicely decorated. He sat in his chair and motioned me to sit, and I did.

“Why should I have this interview when you were ten minutes late. I need someone to be on time” he watched me.

I squirmed under his gaze. His eyes were intensely beautiful. From where I’m sitting, it looks like his eyes were silver or gray. They watched me.

I told him the truth; I did not even hesitate. ” I was in the hospital.” That got his attention; he got up and moved closer, sitting on the edge of his desk, right in front of me. I could smell his cologne; God, he smelled so good. It was hard for me to concentrate. Not only that, but he was so alluring. His jaw structure was perfect; he had high cheekbones, but not too high. It looked like he had shaved, but just a little hair was left on his face. I love a man who can grow a beard, and he takes care of it. His eyes, oh God, were gray with a hint of green, and they watched me. He was fit; I could see it through his clothes. He was tall, too, at least 5′11 if not taller. He was everything a girl could dream of having.

“What we’re you doing in the hospital” he questioned, pulling me out of my thoughts.

My eyes met his, and I could feel the intensity and curiosity that he gave off. “My mother, she-uh she has breast cancer we just found out,” I explained to him.

“I see. I’m sorry to hear that. Nevertheless, I do not stand for any delay,” he started.

“Please! I will work my ass off; I’ll be the best employee you have. I will never be late again; I need one shot,” I begged him. “Just one shot. I won’t let you down, I promise”.

We sat silently for a minute or two before he stood up and walked around his desk. He sat down, and the silence continued. It had been nearly five minutes of him just watching me and me trying my best and failing not to squirm.

Finally, he spoke. “There is a task that needs to be done for you to get the job. Be here tomorrow at 10 am sharp. If you are late, do not even bother showing your face”. He was intimidating, but I could not let that stop me.

“Thank you so much” I stood up, and I put my hand out to shake his hand. He stood and took my head. His touch electrified me. He smiled, and I melted; he has perfectly straight teeth. This man was perfect in all aspects.

“Until tomorrow, Ms. Richardson.”

“Thank you.” I left the room, and the lady from before was waiting. She showed me out of the house. When I got in the car, I screamed. Maybe things will start to get better, I told myself.
