ONE: New Beginnings
Each decision leads to a different outcome
It is up to you to see the positive in each one
Only then will life treat you fair
And you will see the winnings that are everywhere.
AUSTIN MALLORY CHANNING
So far I have learned to hide things better.
I hid it from my father, my teachers. Yet there was this one person I couldnβt hide from. The lunch lady Cassandra. To make her mad I called her Quesadilla, since it rhymed. And each and every time I would come to school slightly high she was on the case.
She told the principal one particular day and he was sick of it. Mr. Keef was divorced and left with the kids. I know because I may or not have seen his face book page with sad quotes and posts of what couldβve been with his wife.
Today just happened to be that day.
I sat in his office with the same people I was caught smoking with and I could tell I was going to be the sacrificial lamb. Mr. Keef sat down as the pinky sized bag of weed sat on the desk. The tired and angry facial expressions told me exactly what I thought was going to happen. Call home, leave voice mail my dad never checks and then send me home.
βSo will anyone explain why this is the third time this year I have seen more weed than I have in the span of a decade?β Mr. Keef lifted up his glasses and deadpanned us as the voices overlapped each other.
βMr. Keef, I was just using the bathroom!β Marielle said as I rolled my eyes internally that excuse worked when we got caught the first time nobody was buying it this time.
βMr. Keef, the only way I can stay awake in Mrs. Bookerβs class is if...β Damien decided it wasnβt the best excuse to go with. I personally didnβt talk. What was there to say? The evidence spoke for itself.
After everyoneβs excuse was heard and Mr. Keefβs gray hairs became more prominent he licked his lips before speaking, βMr.Channing do you know what the police does in order to dismantle mobs, gangs and Mafiaβs?β
βNo.β I reply, trying not to seem as high as I actually am.
βThey have this thing called, Cut it at the Head. They get the leader or the person in control and arrest them.β Mr. Keef always had this way of using examples that would bite you right in the ass. I liked that about him.
βAnd watch as the whole organization fell apart. So Iβve made the decision to temporarily expel you from this school, and watch as your friend group falls apart without your presentence.β Mr. Keef adjusted his glasses to watch the expression on my face.
βMr.Keef you canβt do this! Iβll never bring it again.β I tried to plead over my dumb decision but I could tell he wasnβt going to change.
Almost a week later, my father Justin Channing already had me enrolled at his βSt. Mallory Channingβs Boarding House For Elites.β a whole hour away from anything I ever knew, my friends, and my school.
A school that he was never at, and was full with malpractice already so nothing was actually going to stop.
I wasnβt going to put up a fight, I already saw where that got me getting sent away where I would hopefully come back as a conservative guy with a new outlook on life.
A christian school where my brother and I were going to be exposed to mortals and a sense of belief according to my father. He had already made an authoritative decision that I would be going there for the remainder of my senior year.
My father made an announcement that his son would be attending his school, and that I would need someone to tour me around even though I had seen the place before. He handpicked the best young lady and gentleman according to him to tour me and my brother.
The main reason why I didnβt get sent to his pristine high school before was because my brother Lucky, was used to going to public schools and back then my father had no reason to object.
I already knew it was coming, getting kicked out and shipped to one of Mr. Channingβs schoolβs he has across the state in the deep south.
Tennessee in which millions of old white men over the age of sixty reside.
The day that I and Lucky were going to be shipped to the boarding school, I couldnβt help but text my friends and let them know what was going on. Whatever Mr. Keef said about my βfriendsβ falling apart the minute I left was a lie.
I opened my phone and texted them as the car kept moving.
5:36 AM
Austinn: good morning
Marielle: I know he is not texting us good morning have fun with the christians !!!!
Damien: Nobody talks to me like that.
Ace: thatβs crazy

Austinn: I was kicked out.

Marielle expected me to talk my way out of it so we could all be happy ever after until the next time I got caught, I donβt blame her for assuming that was going to happen it always did. But her being angry that my actions or our actions have consequences is ridiculous.
I ignore the message and put my phone in my pocket and start to search for something to smoke. I had just brought a pen and I havenβt been able to use it because of the amount of weed Ace had left over.
The designated driver that was assigned to take me where I needed to go was strictly told not to let me drink or smoke. My father knew I couldβve snuck it in the car but what he didnβt know was that I was sliding the driverβs money under the table to be quiet.
Money always gets you out of tight situations.
My father, Justin always had a new way to make money. A new business or organizations all under his enterprise which met that me and my brother Lucky had well beyond our means, and our allowance doubled each week from the last.
My whole life Iβve never gone without since my mother Enola was an actress and my father had a construction business. So as early as I could talk I knew that money had value. Money would get you the things off the shelfs. And as much as people say money couldnβt make them do anything. The truth was everybody had a price.
I heard the trunk being opened and loaded with all of our stuff before slamming and our car driver driving off.
For what felt like hours of hearing my playlist, Lucky mouthing his ass off to the driver, and reading the old Harry Potter books I left in the car since I was like eight for most of the time.
ST. CHANNING MALLORYβS CATHOLIC BOARDING HOUSE FOR ELITES.
The building was finally in my view. A big red brick school which looked like it had a never ending amount of classrooms and people wearing the same uniform as me was standing in the yard. I was pretty sure on the website it said it was split into two halves: a dormitory and school.
I could feel people gaze at me as soon as I got out of the car. Nobody has heard it is rude to stare?
I opened the trunk to my suitcases out before Lucky which was a big mistake. Lucky was already smiling at anyone in his view. I rolled my eyes. Lucky loved the people, the media, publicity in general.
I looked around before a white guy who was pretty buffy, came walking down the steps. βAre you two the headmasterβs sons?β He smiled showing pearly white teeth that contrasted with his bright brown eyes.
His name tag reading βVincent Andersonβ He held out his hand as a greeting in which Lucky held out his hand and shook his hand with a flirty smile. Lucky loved to flirt, it didnβt matter who it was.
He walked up the concrete trail to the school with us close behind.
I start to see someone right by the door. A woman with a dark sky blue uniform jacket with what seemed to be a million pins on it like she was awarded many times. A formal button up white shirt, a pencil skirt in plaid and knee high white socks with dress shoes.
The girlβs hair is waist length in jet black curly, wavy and wild. Her eyebrows curved in a nervous expression, I could tell she didnβt like new people, not in a bad way, just in an undecided judgment of character. Her skin a rich chocolate and the sun was hitting it reflecting its light onto her face.
Her eyes were so big, capturing everything, her eyelashes looked false and curled with such precision. I never meant a girl that looked like her.
βThis is Cheyenne, she was covering for Dominic. He didnβt feel so well.β Vincent was lucky his voice even got into my ears because all I wanted to do was hear hers.
βHi, Cheyenne.β My voice was unrecognizable. I wanted her not to be conceded yet open and embraceful when it came to me. I reach my hand out and let her shake it.
We continued with the tour, Yet I did not pay attention because I longed for her.
I wanted to keep her for myself at that very moment, and thatβs when I realized I would do anything to make her interested in me.
