Chapter 1
A wine colored vehicle pulled up in front of the secluded Air Bnb and Kathleen Danvers stepped out, into the scorching hot sun of a Tuesday afternoon. This would be her temporary dwelling place in Cap Estate, till she could face up the courage visit her family.
“Good afternoon Ms Danvers,” her gracious host called out. “Good afternoon Jeffers, how are you?’ she asked. “Doing very well, my lady” Jeffers responded. “Here is your house key, have a wonderful stay!”
“I most certainly will try Jeffers, thank you. “ Kathleen replied. She opened and door, dropped her bags and headed straight for the bed. With that, Kathleen flew herself onto the bed landing on her back. She kicked off her shoes and let out a loud sigh. It was so great to be back home, in her beloved home land Saint Lucia, but after the long flight she had coming from New Jersey, all she wanted to do right now was take a nice long warm bath and sleep. She was hungry as well but her stomach will just have to wait.
She came back to settle some long postponed issues with her estranged brother and sister, and Kathleen was not looking forward to that meeting. She knew that this was what she came to do but no one said it would be smooth sailing. Kathleen run her bath, added some sweet- smelling lavender bath oil and climbed in. She closed her eyes and let her memories take her back to that fateful day when she lost her mom.
It was a Sunday, and she was called in to work. As a nurse, she did not have much of a social life and she was expected to be called in at in time of the day. She left her younger brother and sister home with her mom. It was always customary for her to kiss her mom a good day before she left the house but that day she was in a rush and forgot. Kathleen was very close to her mom and as the first born they really bonded. At 3pm, that very day, she received a call from her sister. “Kathy! We need help!” she heard her sister shout into the phone.
“Judy, Judy calm down! What’s wrong! What happened?” Kathleen tried asking. But her sister was at this point screaming and crying into the phone uncontrollably. “Its mom, she...she…she’s dead Kathy!”
Kathleen felt like the whole room was spinning, she saw images of her mom flashing in front her face like a slide. She held onto the bed she was standing next to and sat down. Thankfully, it was empty. She had just come in to change the sheets. “Judy, how...how? What happened? Where are you? Where is mom?” Kathleen asked.
“Please send an ambulance; we drove down a ditch…” Judy tried answering. Kathleen could hear the sound of a siren in the back ground. “Judy listen, please listen, I can hear a siren, and I think it’s the ambulance or police. Tell me where you are and I will send an ambulance right away.” Judy, still crying and sounding hysterical replied “We are on the tunnel road somewhere...” the call ended. Kathleen ran to the main station. “I need an ambulance sent to the tunnel road immediately, there has been an accident with my family, please hurry!”
