Chapter 1

Loud screams and shrieks were heard in the car,

“Mom! She took my doll!”

“Mom! She’s kicking me”

“MOM!”

“Enough!” My dad shouted “One more word from either of you and we will turn and go back home! How many times have I told you to not argue in the car, do you know-”

“Oscar!” The last thing I heard before there was a loud bang an everything went black

*Eva’s POV*

Fuck that damn alarm, I thought as it blared through the speakers of the alarm clock. I groggily opened my eyes and looked at the time, I got up and did my morning business and got dressed for work.

I walked out of my apartment and went to get my usual cup of coffee before heading to my workplace. The sun was already up and you could see the streets bustled with people. I went into the office building and greeted the receptionist before heading towards the elevators. I was looking at my phone as I felt someone stand beside me, and didn’t really pay much attention to him.

The elevator doors opened and I stepped inside, pressing the button as the man beside me proceeded to press another button. We stood there awkwardly, barely acknowledging each other’s presence.

The elevator suddenly whirred to a stop and I felt myself toppling backwards. I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for the impact then I realised it never came. I slowly opened my eyes and saw the most beautiful forest green eyes staring back at me. I blinked rapidly and quickly got out of his arms, awkwardly mumbling a thank you while I fixed my skirt.

The elevator eventually came back to life and slowly but surely, I reached the floor where I was supposed to be. I stepped out of the elevator and quickly headed towards my desk, draping my coat over my chair then placing my bag under my desk.

“I heard that the CEO is coming down for an inspection but I also heard that he’s like super hot.” I hear one of my co-workers say

“Yeah, I also heard that he was hot, and apparently, he’s one of the youngest bachelors here”

“Well I heard that he’s looking for a girlfriend, and he wants to get married as soon as possible”

“I heard that he’s gay” I muttered under my breath, sick and tired of their gossiping

Their immediately looked at me, a nasty scowl on their faces. I grinned and went back to my work. Not long after, the whole floor suddenly became quiet, it was so quiet that you could even hear a pin drop onto the floor. I looked up and saw him. He was the guy in the elevator, the one that caught me while I was falling, and my dumbass decided to be so awkward around him. His eyes scanned across the room until it landed on mine, that signature smirk of his evident on his face. He walked over to me as everyone’s eyes were on him. I looked around uncomfortably.

“Eva, right?” His voice low and husky

“Yes sir” I replied nervously, am I in trouble?

“I would appreciate if you came to my office at lunch break, and that wasn’t a choice.”

“Yes sir.” I replied again, oh my god Evangeline you need to stop saying yes sir

He nodded and walked away while I started at him, wait, what just happened? Ushered whispers were heard across the room, I turned back to my desk and tried to concentrate, but I couldn’t get him out of my head. What did he want from me?

I Kept torturing myself with questions throughout my day, each time fearing for the worst. Lunch was finally here. I went up to the top floor, and came in face with young lady sitting at the receptionist. She eyed me up and down and I walked towards her.

“Excuse me, I’m here to see the CEO?”

“Do you have an appointment?” She asked in a bored sassy tone

“No? But he asked me to come see him at lunch”

“No appointments, no going in.” she said, her tone final

“But-“

No buts, you don’t have an appointment therefore you don’t get to see him. The End.” She said narrowing her eyes

The door suddenly swung open and there he was, looking like a fucking Greek god.

“It’s fine Sarah, I was expecting her.”

The receptionist looked at me with jealousy evident on her face. I gave her a sheepish smile and quickly went in behind him. He sat down on his chair, his eyes piercing into my soul. I stood there nervously, playing with the hem of my skirt.

“Have a seat, Evangeline.” He said commandingly

I quickly sat on one of the chairs opposite him.

“Am I in trouble?” I blurted out, my hands immediately flew to my mouth, realising what I just said

He looked at me with an amused smile “No you are not in trouble, at least for now.” He paused “ I have a proposal for you”

“And what is that proposal?”

“Marry me.”

“What?”

“You heard me. Marry me.”

I blinked rapidly, my head was spinning. Am I dreaming?

“You want to marry a woman you met for barely five minutes?” I said slowly

“Yes, as absurd as that sounds, my father has an inheritance that I can inherit under one condition. I get married.” He paused again “We won’t be married forever, just for six months, until I receive the inheritance, then you are free to go”

“And what’s in it for me?”

“If you accept my proposal, I’ll triple your salary and pay off all your debts.” My eyes widened “However if you reject my proposal, you will be fired immediately.”

“I’ll give you a couple minutes to think about it.”

It’s just marrying someone for six months right? Nothing serious right?

“I’ll marry you.” I said, making my decision

He smiled “Very well, you can have the rest of the day off and I will help you move your things into my house.”

“I have to move in with you?”

“Yes, after all, we are engaged now aren’t we?”
