Chapter 1

I got out of the car to see the new house my parents made me move to. I didn’t want to be here! I liked the old house! All my friends are there! I walked into the house hearing my brother’s excitement. I refused to look at anything other than the ground, nothing was going to make me like this house. “Hey, Brooke why are you upset?” My dad asked kneeling down to look at me, “I don’t like it here. I wanna go back home.” I said grumpily, “Well this is your home now. I’m sure you like it if you just take a look around.” My father said moving my head to look at him. “I have no friends here!” “You’ll make new ones I’m sure of it. Why don’t you go outside wail me and your mother unpack.” “Fine.” I said and went to go to the back yard. I sat on the ground and thought about all my friends back home. Suddenly a ball came flying over the fence and landed in my yard, “Dang it.” I heard a voice say from over the fence. I got up and got the ball and ran back to the fence it came from and tossed it up over the fence. I was too short to see over it so I hopped it didn’t hit the person in the head, “Ow!” I heard the voice say, “I’m so sorry! Are you ok?” “Ya I’m fine. Wait someone finally moved in next door!?” “Uhh ya.” “Can you get the other ones I threw over?” “There aren’t any others.” I said looking around just to make sure. “Oh well, anyways what’s your name?” “Brooke.” I said and sat on the ground by the fence, “Aaron.” He said this time he was at the gate of my fence, which had gaps in it so I could see him this time. I got up and opened the gate, “You wanna play catch with me?” He asked “Ya!” I said and we ran to the front of out houses and played. “Brooke time for dinner.” My dad said coming outside to find me, “Oh, see I told you you’d make new friends.” I tossed the ball back to Aaron, “Bye Aaron!” I said running inside to go eat.

That was how I met my bestfriend Aaron. We grew up together and we’re always there for each other. We were also the same age and somehow in each other’s class every year. Since we had become such great friends even our parents had grown close. “Brooke you ok?” Aaron said snapping me out of me reminiscing. “Ya I’m good.” I smiled and went back to doing the homework we were both working on. A while later we both finished and I had to go home. I walked into the house and didn’t see anyone around. Did they leave to go do something? I walked into the living room which was really dark for some reason, I walked over to one of the lights and turned it on, right as I turned it on I heard “Boo!” From behind me, it made me jump out of my skin, “Ugh, Brian!” I said turning around to glare at my brother, but when I looked at him his eyes were wide open. “What?” I said and he pointed around me, around me was what looked like frost. It was on the walls, the lights, the carpet, and the couch. “Uhhhh, did I do that?” I asked Brian, “Well it wasn’t me and the air conditioner isn’t even that cold.” Then our parents walked in and heard us talking. “What’s going on?” My mom asked walking in then stopped in her tracks when she saw the walls. “Oh, no.” She mumbled. “Uh, hun can you come here.” My dad walked into the room and saw it too, “Oh. Guess we need to talk with you two.” Me and Brian looked at each other confused as mom and dad went to the table to talk with us.

After we all sat down my mom started to talk, “So, we haven’t been entirely true about our families past. A few generations ago people in our family had special abilities that they used to help their town and family. Our family had been getting these abilities for as long as our families written down history. We have no idea why we get these powers. It also only effects every three generations.” She paused looking at our shocked faces, “Wait so I might have powers too!?” Brian said happily, “Maybe and I don’t want you guys to tell anyone. Not even Aaron.” Dad said looking at me, “I won’t.” After that we continued on with our night as if nothing happened. That night as I was trying to fall asleep I kept trying to make a bit of frost or ice, and could only make a little sparkle of something.

The next morning Aaron came to wait with me at the bus stop, “I heard you and your brother last night shouting about something, everything ok? Or was it just him pranking you again?” “He just scared me in the dark again it’s fine.” I thought about telling him about the powers but Mom told me not to. “Did you study for the test last night after you left?” Aaron said looking at me like he already knew the answer, “What test? Oh... ya History. I’ll, uh.. I’ll be fine.” I had forgotten after everything last night, hopefully my parents won’t be too angry this time since I kinda have a reason. Soon the bus came and took us away to school.

I made it through the History test and felt ok about it and was going to meet Aaron in the lunch room, Brian had stopped me in the hall to check on me. I sat next to Aaron and sighed, “So, you think you failed?” “Nope! I actually feel pretty good about it this time.” “You said that last time and you failed.” “Ya, but that was math, I always get false confidence with math.” He chucked at that and went back to eating his sandwich. Suddenly we heard a loud bang and the building shook. Me and Aaron looked at each other as kids stood up and started running out of the building. I got up and started heading into the school to check for other kids, “Brooke! What are you doing?!” Aaron yelled above the others, “I’m checking for others I’ll be out soon!” The building shook again and a light fell in between the two of us. I ran to some of the classrooms and told people which way to go. Soon I heard over the loud speakers someone talking, “All students leave the building and go home, busses will be here soon to take you home. Just get on one and tell them where you live once they ask you. All students leave now, something is attacking the city.” The principal said, Suddenly Brian came running at me, “Brooke I think this is the part where you ‘help your town’!” He shouted quoting Mom last night. I nodded and ran the the room with theater costumes. It was my best chance at finding something to hide my identity.

I found a plastic eye mask and a piece of cloth I used to hide the bottom part of my face. I tied back my hair and grabbed a hoodie from the ground and flipped it up. I was shacking a bit but I had to do this, what ever it was I was about to do. I ran out to the back of the school and tried to use my powers to make steps up to the roof of the building. I was able to make little ice platforms to stand on. “Brooke! Brooke!” I heard Aaron yell, before seeing my brother come and take him away. I looked around and saw some creature standing near the school. It was green and was huge. Kind of reminded me of Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. Except the arms and legs were thicker and it had a tail. “Ok, found it. Now what do I do?” I mumbled to myself. I ran towards it and it soon noticed me, it started to slash its arms at me. I used my power to make a wall of ice to stop it’s arm. I noticed police on the ground shooting but it seemed to be doing nothing. I shot a blast of ice at it’s stomach made it loss it’s balance. I ran to the other side behind him to clear the way of people as he came crashing down. He fell down and the ground shook as he was on the ground I made a sharp ice sickle and stabbed it into his stomach. As soon as I did he burst into yellow sparkles and was gone. I went down to the ground to help some of the police officers who I had nocked down to move them out of the way. I figured out how to make my ice disappear and an officer came up to me, “Hey, are you the cause of all of this?” They asked, “No! I was just trying to help get rid of him I promise!” “How did you do all of that ice stuff?” “Have you never heard of super powers?” I really didn’t know what I was doing but it seemed like he wasn’t angry yet. “Who are you?” He asked next, and now time to lie to the police, great. “Well, I can’t tell you, kinda defeats the point of anonymous super hero.” He then started to reach for my mask to take it off, “Oh wow, would you look at that I got to get home.” I said before running off and thankfully he didn’t try to get me after that.

I dropped near by the house and took off the hoodie, and mask’s. Then continued to walk the rest of the way home. As soon as I rounded the street I heard feet running towards me, I looked around expecting the police but it was just Aaron. He pulled me into a tight hug, “I was so scared you ran in to the building and you brother came to me and said you were already on your way home, but you weren't here and you weren't answering you phone!” “W... well I’m here now and I’m fine.” I stuttered for some reason. “I know I was just so scared.” He said letting me go, we walked back down the street and both went to our own homes. As soon as I stepped in I heard the t.v. on, “Monster attacks local high school and unnamed hero shows up to defeated it, more on it at 7:00.” I heard the emergency broadcast song before it went back to what my parents were watching before. I stepped into the room and my parents looked relieved to see me, “You did so well! We’re so proud of you!” My mother said hugging me. “Thanks, honestly surprised I could do any of that. Any way's I’m going to go get bandaged up.” I said walking to the bathroom, I had gotten a few small cuts, mainly from things falling in the school before I left, but nothing too serious thankfully. I put some band aids on and my phone started beeping a lot. I glanced at it and saw notifications from class group chats I was in. They were all going crazy about me, well not me but the hero they saw on t.v. Some were even calling me Elsa, “Wow, very creative guys.” I mumbled. I put in a few messages of me admiring her as well just to blend in. Then I got a separate message from Aaron, "Hey just wanted to double check you’re all right right?" I smiled to myself, "Yes Im fine starting to think your not though" "Sorry Im just worried ok you ran in there and there was nothing I could do" "I know but since I knew you were out there I was able to go through and save some others without worrying about you" I put my phone down and went to start on homework before remembering my bag was still in my locker and probably destroyed now. I then walked downstairs to go watch t.v. with my parents. Sadly nothing I was interested in was on so I went to go sit outside till dinner.

As I got outside I noticed Aaron outside as well, “Hey, seriously were you hurt today?” I asked coming up behind him, scaring him a bit. “No I’m fine just a few small scrapes and maybe a bruise from your brother, he had to pull me away from the school pretty hard.” I sighed, “He knew I was fine so he wanted to get you away and back home.” “Anyway this new hero sounds really cool. I mean our small town with it’s own hero!” Aaron said excitedly, “Ya, she does seem very cool. I just hope no more of those... things show up.” “Ya, and next time I’m not leaving your side if we’re together if or when another one shows up.” He said seriously looking at me, I felt my cheeks get a bit warm, I must just be nervous since I’ll have to leave him again. “Alright.” I said and we continued to talk till our parents came to get us for dinner. “He doesn't know it’s you right?” Brian asks once I come inside, “No, I haven’t told anyone.” I said sitting down at the dinner table.

Once we all finished eating I asked my mom, "So what was that monster?" My mom took a deep breath before saying, "I didn't mention it before because I didn't want you to worry, but they are monsters that try to take our power's. They are typically drawn to our power so they will likely attack near your location. Thankfully the one that attacked you today was a weak monster but I will probably have to start training you tomorrow just so your ready for a stronger monster." I was worried to find out what a stronger one would be like and that since they attacked near me that Aaron would be in trouble, as well as my family. I went up to my room and messed around on my phone till I had to go to bed.
