Chapter 1~ Namida

If you're reading this.. good for you! You’re special. You should feel special! Nobody else has found this book (probably). I’m not quite sure. Now what you’re about to read may seem like a fantasy. Maybe this is all fiction to you. If you don’t want to deal with anything troublesome then I suggest you continue to think that way. Skip over this and simply read my story..

Or maybe you’re curious. Do you want to know the truth? This is a true story. I’m still new at writing in English so bare with me. My friend will be helping me. Right, you’re here for the story! Well let’s see where it all started.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

I groaned into my pillow. My eye wandered up to the alarm clock. A red 7:00 was flashing. Couldn’t my clock show me mercy for one morning? I reached out to the nightstand and gently turned it off. It felt more peaceful without the consistent beeping. The morning was cold. My eyes slowly closed again. Just a few more minutes..

“OAKLEY J. PRANCE!” I shot up so fast out of bed as a woman shouted my name. “You better be getting out of bed!” I jumped out of bed. My hooves made a loud clacking sound on the wooden floor as I rushed to my closet. Oh right, I forgot to mention something. I open the door and a mirror sits in the corner. Walking closer, I begin to mess with my hair and tuck bits behind my elongated ears and antlers. I’m a deer. Hope that doesn’t change anything.

“Yeah! I’m coming!”

“That better not be attitude!” She shouts from outside. I quickly change into suitable clothing. It wasn’t anything too fancy, just a blue sweater with purple horizontal stripes and some black slacks. I adjust my glasses and look into the mirror again. Two sharp red eyes stared at me back. I smiled, satisfied with my appearance. My brown fur matched my hair. Light cream colored dots were sprinkled along my face. Mom always said I looked more like her than I did Dad. That kind of made me sad. I never got to see Dad. Mother said he went missing in a hunting accident with humans. My eyes were some odd anomaly. I guess you could say I’m the black sheep of the family.. but deer? I’m the odd one out. I step outside of the closet and close the door lightly.

My feet clack against the wood as I sprinted down the stairs. We couldn’t get a house with carpet, (believe it or not it’s very difficult to walk on carpet with my hooves!). The only downside was the constant clacking if you weren’t slow. I rushed into the kitchen and stood in front of a cupboard. I reach up and open it before jumping up to nab a bowl. I landed on my hooves with a CLACK!

“Oakley! You’re gonna crack those again if you don’t be careful!” A taller woman walked in. She was about 5”8 in height and had long brunette hair with grey streaks. Her dark brown eyes were intense but had a little kindness deep in them. She had a green apron on with a silver name tag. Lainey P. Was printed on in black text.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t reach the bowls.” She sighed before walking over to the door. She snagged some keys off a hook.

“They called me in early,” she sighed briefly, “so I’ll be gone till three. Alright?” I nodded. I snatched a box of cereal before setting the bowl down.

“You better clean up any mess you make. Love you dear!” I waved to her before pouring the cereal.

“Love you mom!” She took a final glance at me before walking outside and locking the door behind her. A couple seconds later I heard a knock at the door. She must’ve forgotten something. I walk over and unlock it with my spare key before opening it. Instead of an old deer, a young cat stood there. He was about 15, (my age), with dark chestnut fur. Some cream stripes made two M shapes on his forehead. Two long ears were pointed upwards and swayed anytime he moved his head. His yellow eyes were bright and startling to anyone new. They were only half opened as he stared at me with a lazy grin.

“How’s it going Prance?” His voice was sarcastic sounding.

“I told you my mom doesn’t want you around here anymore Hickory!” I felt my ears heat up. It was true, mom said he couldn’t come around anymore after he emptied out our fridge. He also sat in our garbage cans.

“I know but, you’re not gonna believe what I found!” Curious I raise an eyebrow.

“I’ll bite just this once. What did you find?” Slowly he reaches into his pocket and slips out a box. Red Snappers! Was printed on the side.

“Firecrackers? The fourth isn’t for another month!”

“I know. Want to go blow up some tree stumps I found?” Tempting. I set my bowl of cereal down. It wouldn't hurt if I went out just for a bit..

“Sure. Just don’t blow your hand off!” He chuckled. It made my heart flutter for a split second. Sometimes, when he wasn’t being a sarcastic asshole, he was rather handsome and kind. I’ve had a massive crush on him since sixth grade when I figured out I was gay. His face was just so perfect. Beautiful heart shape. His fur was constantly neatly groomed. He reached out and snapped in front of my face. I shook my head lightly.

“Dude, you HAVE to stop with that space out thing. I don’t like your vampire eyes staring at me.” He teased. I rolled my eyes before grabbing his paw.

“Just follow me!”

“Hey! I’m supposed to be leading the way!”
