Chapter 1
ROMAN
It’s been about a year now that I’m the CEO and since then Candy and I both welcomed our beautiful baby girl. She’s a stay home mom working from home, while I head to the office. As of lately I’ve been working late after office hours. So, I barely see them but when I do, they’re sleeping tucked away under the covers. Candy would leave a note saying, “here’s your dinner” and she would put those cute smiley faces on it. I missed the days where she would call me with her sweet voice saying that babe dinner’s ready.
My baby girl snuggled up under her mother looking comfortable as ever. While my love has her hands draped loosely over her, their breathing quiet and gentle. I like watching them sleep but I also miss the times where we would have our family time together.
I gave them both a kiss on the cheek and head back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, she emerged from the bedroom and takes a seat next to me at the kitchen island.
Babe what are you doing up? Go back and sleep. “I hardly see you these days. I miss you Roman.” I know love, I’ll try and make time for you and our princess. How is she by the way? “She’s doing fine, she just misses you a lot. You look like you had a battle with the paperwork. How is everything at the company going?”
Well, we got two newbies. One in accounts and the other my assistant. They both start training tomorrow; it shouldn’t be too hard once I follow the tips from my dad. Plus, I have some meetings to attend, so that’s going to be another late night. “I know you care about the company, but you also need to rest, you can’t over work yourself.” I know babe, thanks for caring. You’re the best. You do know that... Right?
I miss you both so much. I’ll make this up to you, I promise. Just hold on for me, ok. “Ok, anyway I’m off to bed. I got a busy day tomorrow." Ok sweetheart, sweet dreams goodnight. “Goodnight.”
She gave me a kiss on the lips and headed to our bedroom stripping her clothes on the way.
Walking into our bathroom minutes later, I freshen up before bed. After a nice warm bath, I throw some clothes on and was about to hit the hay, when I notice the glass on the nightstand is empty. Grumbling to myself, I trudge my way back to the kitchen. While approaching I hear familiar voices coming from the direction I’m heading. So, I slowed my steps to a crawl, tip toeing as quietly as possible.
“There you are. How are you managing son? With the company and all.” It’s rough, but I always pull through. “You know at some point you must tell your wife. Things aren’t getting easy.”
I know, I just don’t want her to know yet. The thought of loosing her is killing me. “I understand…don’t take to long though.” Sure, thing dad.
If you’re spending the night, you know where the guest bedroom is. Goodnight dad. "Goodnight son.” I turned around on my heels moving quickly and quietly back to the room. My mind racks with so many questions, about how am I going to tell Candy, what she should of known in the first place.
What would I tell her. My dad being here at this hour is only for important matters.
The next morning, we’re up early preparing for the day. “Hey babe, you sure everything’s alright at work? You seemed tensed.” Yeah, why do you ask? “Even though you say you’re fine, your body language says something different. I want to know that you’re alright.” Hey, listen to when I say that I’m alright, ok. Focus on our baby girl and yourself. Cupping her cheeks and brushing my thumb against them, reminds me of the first day I kissed her.
I gave her a reassuring smile to help with her nerves. I’m not stress, I’m perfectly fine, so stop worrying. Do you want our little girl to call you grandma?
“That’s not funny.” You see, so stop the worrying love ok.
“Ok, promise me that you’ll come talk to me when things are bothering you.” I promise. I embrace her in the most passionate hug and kiss her sweetly. My arms wrapped around her waist as I deepened the kiss pulling her closer.
Enjoy your day today love. “You too babe, don’t work too hard.” Love you bye.
“Love you too babe bye.”
I leave heading for my personal transport waiting for me outside. That hole in my heart just got bigger. Something was not right. Morning Juan. “Morning sir.” Got any news for me?
I don’t care what you have to do Juan, when you find them kill them. Do I make myself clear? “Crystal sir.” I want any dirt you got on any of our rivals. Let’s see who is watching us. Do we have any teams on the grounds right now? “No sir.” I want you to trace where this letter came from and send a ground crew there. “Should I inform your father?” he already knows.
The entire drive to the office was wrecking my brain “We, umm… we got a problem.” What do you mean we have a problem. What is going on Juan? “Sir, there’s a mole amongst us who is spilling very sensitive information to our enemies. We’re not sure exactly who it is yet, but we will find out soon enough.” Please do, we cannot allow this traitor to get away. “There is one more thing too. It’s about your wife and daughter. Someone has been keeping a tag on them, my guess is, it’s the same person that is leaking sensitive info.” It's now more than ever, I have to tell Candy before things get more complicated.
