SHADOW PLAGUE

Ding⏰, Ding⏰, Ding⏰

My eyes fluttered open from the sound of my alarm clock blaring. I pushed myself up from the bed resting my back on the wall, I stretched and yawned, rolling my neck to put the bones back in their right position.

I rubbed my eyes👀with my hands to help with my blurry vision. The cursed alarm clock⏱️ was still blaring, it was so loud I was sure the neighbours could hear it.

I picked it up looking for the off switch, I flipped the clock around looking for an off switch or button but there was none.

My ears👂couldn't stand the loud ringing of the clock anymore, seeing no other way of switching it off I hurled it towards the wall smashing it into bits.

It was such a shame destroying the clock⏱️, I only just got it a night earlier, Angelica gave it to me as a birthday🎉gift🎁.

Speaking of birthday I wondered what happened to the others, last night was superb and crazy, we threw a huge party for me turning twenty three.

I remembered all of us drinking🍾 to stupor despite moms warnings, I was in the living room I had no idea of how I got to the bed

While still trying to get my thoughts together I felt something warm touch my leg "what could that be" I wondered. I slowly pushed the duvet off me to see what was hidden beneath it, I really hoped it wasn't a rat.🐀

I hated rats🐀the way they squeaked and their little fingers freaked me out, but there was no way it could be a rat 🐀 there was no way it would climb my bed and sleep beneath my leg.

Finally pushing the duvet I saw it wasn't a rat 🐀 but my boyfriend Kelvin. He was holding an empty bottle of alcohol, I could hear him groan as he rolled left and right in the bed.

How could he possibly have slept through the loud tyranny the alarm clock ⏰ gave. I stare at him watching him look cute sleeping, he was half naked only in his underwear,he was also smiling in his sleep I was sure he was thinking about me.

The birthday 🎉 card he got me was next to him, I picked it up and read it out aloud to myself " Happy Birthday Winter my favourite honey drop" how romantic I would have given him a kiss if he wasn't drooling.

I got off the bed heading straight for the bathroom, I twisted the knob of the bathroom door pulling it open to see an ocean right in front of me.

Someone probably my drunk sleeping boyfriend lying on my bed!! Left the tap running after taking a shower 🚿 last night🌃. I sigh fighting my way through the water to the drain plug, on reaching it I pulled it out allowing the water to flow in and out of my bathroom.

I took and bath and brushed my teeth, as I walked out of the bathroom with my towel wrapped around me, i spotted Kelvin seating at the edge of the bed with a half filled glass of water in his hand. He heard me walk out, he got up from this bed this time in shorts " hi honeydrop" he said approaching me with his hand wide open for a hug, I smiled softly dodging his arm I pushed him out of my room so I could dress 👗 up In peace " see you later honey" I told him throwing him an air kiss as I slam the door in his face.

I got dressed in Jean and polo shirt which were my only set of casual outfits I loved their simplicity not too extra and not too unextra. As I walked down the stairs I saw everyone already at the dining table ready to eat breakfast , for people who got drunk they sure knew how to wake up early and cook breakfast.

I stood at the door of the kitchen observing Angelica, mom , and Kelly get ready to serve breakfast to the lazy boys Damien , Richard , Kelvin and Dr Hart mom's boyfriend.

Angelica spotted me first , she and Mom were the only family I had seeing them in the morning always made my day " hi lil wint my alarm clock ⏰ finally woke you up uhn" Angelica said teasing me " guess so big sis" I replied nervously. " So how did you switch it off the remote was with me" Angelica told me picking the remote from the table In the kitchen.

" The batteries died" I lied quickly switching the conversation to mom to avoid answering more of Angelica's questions, if she knew I broke the clock ⏱️ I would never hear the last of it. "Hey Mom " I greeted mom walking over to her to give her a tight hug and a kiss 😘 to her cheeks " morning Winter" she replied she was the only one who called me fully the only simply called me wint for short.

Helping out in the kitchen we all took breakfast to the table. Kelvin kicked Ethan off the seat next to him creating an empty spot for me next to him, he snapped his fingers to get my attention, when he finally did he pointed to the chair next to him winking at me " How nice of him but no". I smiled taking a seat next to Richard.

I could see Kelvin face turn red with jealousy and anger as he watch me specially dish Richard food " thanks". Richard said to me smiling " No problem " I replied holding his hand in mine.

I wasn't normally a naughty girl , I just felt like teasing Kelvin and also avenging my bathroom, unable to contain his jealously Kelvin stabbed the poor chicken 🐔 with his fork excusing himself to another BATHROOM " what's gotten into him". Richard asked confused at Kevin's unnecessary burst of anger " I have no idea" I replied holding in a chuckle.

" Okay!" Mom said clearing her throat preparing to drop a good news " what mom" Angelica and I asked waiting for a reply " well I and Hart have and after birthday surprise to give to our big winter" she said smiling at Dr Hart . What could it be I wondered they had already gotten me a Mercedes and a closet filled with clothes " so what's the gift" I asked excited.

" Well honey we got you a job at the red flamingo HQ as a lab scientist" mom and Dr Hart told me In unison.

Richard almost choke on his chicken 🐔 after hearing that, he had been sending applications letters to the company since he graduated from Harvard four years before me and there I was getting the opportunity on a platter of gold. " Not cool dad" Richard told Dr Hart angrily " it's ok Richard you can have the job" I said trying to act nice hoping Richard would be sympathetic enough to say " No wint it was your gift".

" Thanks wint you are the best step sister" Richard replied " what!!!" I exclaimed silently curving my lips .

" Listen Richard I've got something for you also but I'll give you later let winter here this" Dr Hart told Richard who reluctantly nodded ok In reply " thank Dr hart for the job" i told Dr hart smiling "well what are almost father's for" he replied making mom laugh , it wasn't even a funny statement what made it funny to mom.

Few minutes later the prodigal son finally returned, Kelvin returned from the bathroom taking his seat to continue his food "hope you turned off the shower🚿 dear" I teased him again. "Hope you turned off the shower🚿 dear" Kelvin repeated in sarcastic mimicking tone " yes I did what do u think I am a two year old " he replied quite upset.

I got up to meet him, placing my hand on his shoulder I looked into his eyes " I was only pulling your legs common" I told him using a puppy eye Expression.

He curved his lips and scoffed in reply, I increased the level of my puppy eye cracking his tough guy look " common sit next to me " he told me smiling " your wish is my command sire" I replied with a voice as thick as Batman's well as thick as Batman's in my head, in reality I sounded more like an opera singer with a spit Ball in the throat
