Chapter 1: The Crash 🍓
I felt a small tap on my head. It was very softly. Maybe it’s my boyfriend Alseo. I’m sure it’s his chin from cuddling me. I felt the tap again. I open my eyes. I quickly realize I’m not at home. “Wait where am I?” As the nurse laughs, “Officer Lauren your in a cancer patient room. You fell asleep with little Alexis because she misplaced her toy bunny and couldn’t sleep in the dark without it. Her crying made you stay the night. I assume Alexis wasn’t the only one tired.” As the nurse continued to laugh. “I did what! Oh no not again Alseo is definitely going to kill me this time.” I quickly get up without waking Alexis and fix my hair. “Relax.” Said the nurse. “I brought you a clean rag, comb, tooth brush and paste. Officer Lauren I’m sure anyone can see your kind heart from a mile away. And you choosing to be a officer to save others. Yet spend all your time with these kids. Every nurse here knows your name because all the kids love you. Thank you for giving them the hope that was lost in their hearts. Your kindness is so pure. It will effect all hearts out there. Just be careful. Being a officer is dangerous. But not all hearts can be saved.” As I just finished brushing my teeth and washing my face. I smiled at the nurse, “I just want everyone happy, not just a hand full of people. That’s why I took this job, I can effect more lives with this uniform.” I said happily. Well I’m staving, plus I have to make it home. I’ll see you later nurse! As I made my way out, every nurse greeted me. Thanking me. Wishing their were more people like me. As I made it outside, sat in my car and turned on the ignition. I thought to myself, about what the nurse said that, “not all hearts can be saved.” How would I effect the devils heart if I was to cross his path. Would I be able too? Is it possible. Either way, I’m impossible to hate, I’m the most adorable person ever, you have to love me, just wish my family did. As I drove to the nearest chicken restaurant. I got out, walked in and waited in line. Perfect, just one person in front of me. I wonder what would taste the best for this amazing morning. The bell over the door dings. As someone walks through. I didn’t bother to turn around because I could taste the chicken through the menu pictures. As I heard them get closer and stopped behind me. Their perfume out scented the chicken. The smell was so sweet. So strong yet so soft, like a fresh batch of roses with fruits. I turn around to compliment her perfume and I couldn’t believe what I saw. She was this beautiful lady with a very very ash like skin complexion. She had pitch black long hair, that was brushed to her right side, mascara with killer eye liner, with a light black eye shadow, and black lip stick. Even though her skin was ash, her skin was absolutely glowing. She had on black fitted pants, black tank top with a nice classy fitted black coat. Her outfit was so perfectly balanced even though everything was black, and not to mention her black knee high boots. But her eyes were a bright blue. As if she had on contacts. As I checked her out I noticed during these three seconds of scanning her outfit her eyes remained looking toward the bathroom. I know she see me looking at her. But I was so nervous to speak, or even turn away from her. My eyes were glued to her. “Order your food.” She says. I assume the person in front already ordered. While her eyes remained toward the bathroom. After she spoke I had to courage to speak. I told her how beautiful she was and how she smelled like fresh flowers from heaven. She locked eyes with me, I immediately felt like I was melting. She says, “fresh flowers from heaven? So your religious. Tell me then religious lady, what do flowers from hell smell like?” Not only stunned by her beautiful voice but by her response. Any normal person would just say thank you, and compliment me back. But she walked past me. I turn around and watch her order her food. Even though I was looking at her my overwhelming thoughts prevented me from listening to her order. As I stood there thinking, in shock, nervous, and confused. She turns around and say, “for complimenting me, I ordered you something to eat. So you can just take a seat and wait for order three.” As she walks away, she never made eye contact with me. Did she notice how nervous I was. I said thank you because I didn’t know what else to say. I walked to the bathroom. Washed my face and look into the mirror. “What happened, why did I feel this way? Why was I stuck. What do flowers from hell smell like? How do anyone answer that. Wait, maybe she asked because I told her she smelled like heaven flowers. Does she not believe in heaven or hell to ask me that. Did I offend her? I was just complimenting, I couldn’t have said anything rude. I’m going to apologize. I just wanted some chicken I didn’t think I’ll meet A model, and make her hate me. Sigh. Okay. She is just a very beautiful girl who likes the color black, and not a fan of religion. Okay. Let’s go thank her properly. As I walk out. I hear, “Hey religious lady, the food was ready, so I brought your food here.” I walk up to the table and sit down. “Look, thank you so much for paying for my food. Why do you call me “religious lady” judging by my uniform most people would just say officer? But anyway, my name is Lauren and you are? And what perfume are you wearing it smells amazing?” I tried so hard to hide my smile but I failed so bad. She replies “Well officer, am I being detained?” I confusingly said “wait what, no I just wanted to know your name. It’s nothing like that I promise.” “Officer, would you like for me to tell you about yourself?” As she locks eyes with me. “Huh? You are everywhere in this conversation, but sure tell me about myself. And I just wanted to know your name maybe we could be friends or something.” I felt myself blushing after saying that. As I was looking at her eat. But as before what she is about to say leaves me in shock. “I figured, you remind me of a puppy. Funny since I never seen one. But I do know they get easily distracted. You been staring at me since you noticed me. Your religious, plus you thanked me twice. So your overly nice. Despite me not answering any of your questions, any officer would be offended by now. Yet you offer friendship? A puppy is blind to all dangers even if it’s looking in the eyes of the devil. But the moment the puppy is betrayed, hurt, or suffered greatly enough. Their brain takes that pain, and mirrors it, inflicting on others. Now the dog is seen as a monster biting everyone that comes close because his trust has been replaced with fear. Some puppies may be saved. Some turn into monsters. In animals, fear is what makes them turn to violence. Now, humans come together to put the dog out of its misery, or so they call it. When humans are what caused it. I wonder officer, can you break? Will you go mad if the hot knife cuts deep enough.” Unable to respond as I watch her take another bite of her food. So she called me a dog because I’m too nice? I’m so confused I wish she doesn’t always talk like this. Then she says, “My name is Seven. We can be friends. I’m interested in what kind of monster you would become. So, I told you about you. Tell me about myself officer Lauren.” I smile, and say “I think your some type of social media model, but your smart and you don’t miss anything. So I take it, your well educated, and... ” Seven interrupts me saying. “What animal am I officer Lauren.” “Drop the officer!” I said embarrassingly. “I think you’re a wolf. Your gaze, it’s breath taking. It’s like your looking into my soul. It’s borderline terrifying. If I’m being honest. But blue is a beautiful color. I feel like you take trust very seriously. You wouldn’t be so observant. So, you prefer to be around people that you trust with your life. Wolves hunt in pacts. So yeah, you’re a wolf.” As I start smiling taking a sip of water feeling like that one frog internet meme, can’t remember his name. Seven just looked at me and replied, “A wolf huh. Interesting.” As Seven gets up, and trash her food that she only took a couple bits of, and heads for the door. I yelled “wait, what’s your phone number I would love for us to be friends, and come on, Seven can’t be your real name.” Seven stopped and turned around. She said, “I don’t own a phone. But if your this interested in me then so be it, tell me your number.” I confusingly asked while smiling. “What model don’t have a phone?” She didn’t reply and she continued to stare at me. I asked if she needed a pen or paper. She said “no, I have a brain that works.” I laughed and told her my number. So, your real name? Before you leave please. Seven turns to me and says. “Rose Goldea” I was in awe on how beautiful her name was. “You have a beautiful name, and I’m loving that accent on how you said it. It’s sexy.” As I smile ear to ear. Trying to make her smile. Seven sighed, “That’s the name of the perfume. Before you ask anything else. I will call you when I’m ready to hang out I suppose.” I got super excited and went to hug her. I noticed immediately Seven’s arms didn’t even move to attempt to hug me back. I felt like I invaded her space. So I immediately pull away and apologized. Seven looked at me so confused as if she had no idea what I was doing to her. And she just shook her head from left to right, and began to exit the restaurant. I felt bad, so I offered Seven to take her where ever she wanted. Seven replied, “Why, this isn’t necessary.” I didn’t have a real answer instead of just being kind because I felt bad. But I had a feeling she didn’t want to hear that. So I said, “if you don’t have a phone, then I doubt you have a car.” As I start cleaning off the table to head out. She says, “take me to the closest hospital.” I immediately asked why and if she was okay. Seven didn’t answer and walked out the building. This girl seriously not going to wait for me. After i packed the food I didn’t eat I walked out, and noticed her by my car on the passenger side. “How did you know this was my car?” I said very curiously. “You don’t look like you drive a viper, nor a Ram. Since it’s only two vehicles out here. Plus your a officer, so choosing the police car is logical. Even if you didn’t drive the police car. Its simple process of elimination.” I laughed “makes sense. I bet you have killer headaches with all that thinking.” As we get into my car, her perfume was so lovely. I figured Seven didn’t want to talk so I told her to listen to a couple of my favorite songs. Which she didn’t agree or disagree. But she was listening which made me happy. But I really wanted her to say something, literally anything. What was bothering me most is that, Seven never smiled once since I met her. Maybe she is seeing a sick family member. I started to get worried. She pulls out a phone from her inner jacket pocket. Started playing this cartoon airplane game. “So you had a phone this whole time, I knew it, social media models can’t go anywhere without their phones.” Making a joke to get her to respond. “It’s a phone yes, but it haves no service. I only have it, because this game keeps my mind at ease from temptation. With the combination with your music, it’s very relaxing.” I smile so hard because she finally complimented me, well, my music at least. “Someone as beautiful as you playing a airplane game ha-ha, you are so cute.” Seven looks up at me and says, “Looks are deceiving isn’t it.” As we got close to the hospital. She turned on my hazard lights and told me to pull over. In which I did exactly that, because it was so sudden. I thought something was seriously wrong. As I put the car in park, on the side of the road. She grabbed my hand and kissed it. I’m sure I turned red immediately. Seven says, “thank you, your timing was perfect. Like I said my name is Seven. Whether you believe it or not. I will call you when I’m free.” And she gets out and shuts the door. I noticed a thundering noise that was getting louder and louder. I got scared and immediately think, what could this noise be. Seven opens the door again and asks “Lauren do you have a spare mask by any chance? And do you hear this noise? It sounds like a plane.” As I passed her a mask “Yes that’s it, it is a plane. Don’t worry I’ll give him a ticket for speeding” As she put on her mask I heard a giggle. I made her smile and couldn’t even see it I was so happy yet so hurt. As she shut the door. The noise got louder and louder, starting to vibrate the car. As I sat back in my seat, slowing getting worried. I watched a large plane fly directly into the hospital. It felt like it was in slow motion. The impact was so great the earth itself shook. Splashing my water out of it’s cup. Debris starts flying everywhere. Multiple fires started to spread and screams were heard. My heart sunk. Completely in shock. And just after I started to regain my focus. The blue sky’s quickly turned black due to the smoke. As I took a deep breath, I smell a hint of Sevens perfume. I look to my right and she was still standing outside the car, her hands was stiff as if she was scared to the bone. Wait why is she standing there with all this debris still falling.
I immediately scream Sevens name to get in. As I leaned over to open the door for her because she didn’t respond to me. Sevens eyes was big a wide looking at the hospital. I started to cry because who ever she tried to visit. I’m sure their... I can’t say that... But just as things couldn’t get any worst. As I finally opened the door. A large explosion blew up, sending a powerful shockwave, that pushed my car back several feet, scattering all the glass. It was so loud, I screamed. As I opened my eyes Seven was no longer standing by the door. I started to cry but I had to be strong. I got out the car with my ears still ringing. I looked around, dizzy and overwhelmed by all the screams from all directions. Dust was everywhere could barely see anything but I knew she had to be pushed back so I started to walk down the side walk. I finally spotted Seven she was fifteen yards away from my car, laying on a hood, I cried. As I ran to Seven screaming her name, she lifted her head and turned to me. And reached her hand out for me, as I got there. I scanned her body to check for damages. A piece of metal was in her left thigh. Glass was in her left shoulder, and she was bleeding from the back of her head. I picked her up and carried her back to my car in the back seat. I grabbed my first aid from my trunk. As I got back to Seven she was unconscious which scared me. I checked her pulse, and thank God I felt it. As I safety removed both glass, and metal debris from her body. I then removed her jacket, she had a tattoo of two scythes on her wrist, and a necklace with a weird pendent. She woke up. I didn’t say anything i just continued to clean the wounds and applied bandages. Even though she was looking at me throughout the process I could tell, her eyes was fading in and out. And I was so scared. But I knew I had to be strong for her. As I finished up, I turned on the ac on full blast, and told her to stay here and rest. And that she was okay. Very faint, Seven says, “Thank” as she fell unconscious again. I check her pulse again and she was still okay. As I got out of the car, and looked at the hospital. It was completely flattened. As my heart continued to sank. I take a deep breath and ran to the closest scream I heard.
I proceeded to help everyone in need. After four hours. Police, FBI, and all the public services were here. And everyone that could be saved was saved. My legs were out of it. My strength was completely depleted, and I was covered in everyone else’s blood. As I made my way back to my car. I noticed my car lights were off. I looked towards the back seat and Seven was gone, and her bandages were removed. As I freak out, I noticed a note in the driver seat. I opened the door, grabbed the note and it said as follows, “You are a hero. Thank you for saving me. I didn’t think I’ll meet A hero today, but I did.” As I sat down in the car and cried. I drove home holding the note for the entire ride.
As I pull in the drive way, I look for my phone and to check the time, and I noticed the sheriff called me twenty one times. I sighed. As I call him, he picks up on the first ring. “Officer King!?” I responded “yes sir? Sorry I had my phone on silent. Are you okay?” He screamed “I had my faith in you, and you left your country to burn, a plane struck a local hospital officer King. And let me guess you were playing with cancer patients as people died!“. I was confused, “What? No I was..” he cuts me off screaming “enough of your excuses you are the worst kind of officer, how can you try to make an impact on the world when you sit and do nothing as it falls! As people die! As family’s are ruined! As a terrorist haves fun take people’s lives, while your having fun with children. You are worthless! I wish I never hired you, we needed you today. The world needed you, and you turned your back on us when we needed you most. Go to my office leave your badge on my desk and never claim to heal the world again. In fact, throw it in the trash at the front desk. I don’t trust you to even go to my office!” As he hangs up on me. My heart breaks into pieces, and there goes my dream job, in less then a minute. As I turn the car back on, I did exactly what he told me. After forty minutes, I finally made it back home in my personal car. Hurt, weak, exhausted, and broken. I walked inside, I called Alseo he didn’t answer because his welding job doesn’t allow him to answer the phone. But he was in a safe enough distance from the explosion so I knew he was safe. So I left a voice mail. “Hey, I’m just calling to make sure you are okay. I’m going to shower and go to bed early today. If I don’t answer when you call” as I hang up, I walked into the bathroom looked into the mirror. “God, I know your watching me, and I know you see my pain. How could this happen? I will still always help others, no matter what people say to me. No matter what happens to me. I will do my best to heal this world. With or without the uniform. I will continue to shine kindness to all. If I was to meet that suicidal terrorist, I’m sure I would have stopped him and saved all those families.” As I took off my clothes, and got in the shower, I thought about Seven, since me being with her was the last time I smiled. As I got out the shower, I look into the mirror one last time. “Someone called me a hero today. I will continue to be one.” As I dry my hair, I took my phone off silent and set it on the charger & head for bed.
As I lay in bed dreaming, I felt someone rub my head. I open my eyes and it’s Alseo. “Hey honey how are feeling I heard you had a long day.” As Alseo smile at me. I sit up and stretch. “Hey love, I doing better then what I was that’s for sure.” Attempting to make myself smile. Asleo stands and grabs the remote. I noticed the TV was paused. He reminded it, a couple seconds and said. “It’s important that you watch this.” As he hits play.
It was the news as a reporter speaks “The fbi claims this attack was done by a suicide terrorist.” “It felt like a nuke.” As I grab Asleos hand. “Here near the hospital we have a couple of families that would like to speak on this situation.” “Are we live?” Asked the survivor. “Yes.” Answered the reporter. “Today was a real tragedy. But there is a real hero among us. Officer Lauren King.” I focus all my attention on the screen now that I heard my name. ” This officer help save my wife that was stunk under heavy debris. After we eventually freed my wife, she quickly stopped the bleeding and headed to another person in need. She was running to every scream she heard. Officer King devoted her life to save us. She saved so many lives today. As survivors gather behind the man speaking with the reporter. Even though everyone was speaking over one another. Everyone was thanking me. I grabbed the remote and turn the TV off. “What are you doing, you need to see this.” As Alseo said confusingly. “I don’t want to watch this. I saved those people because my heart wanted too. I don’t want to be praised, I don’t want the attention. I’m happy that they can now smile with their families. I’m not like everyone else. I don’t except a reward for doing what’s right.” Alseo smiled and hugged me saying. “The world is lucky to have you.”
My phone rings, Alseo answered it for me. “Hello. Oh sheriff. Sorry, she is right here.” As Alseo hands me the phone I put it on speaker. “Hello.” I said calmly. ” Officer Lauren, you are needed at the office. Their are reporters everywhere wanting to speak with you. And if I’m not mistaken some of the survivors are here as well. Your badge will be awaiting your arrival.” I took a deep breath, and said “you can’t even apologize to me. Without putting your reputation first. If the roles were switched I would have listened to you. Understood your point Of view. Even if you stopped showing up for work for a month or a year I would have listened to you. The fact you couldn’t even let me speak. Tells me, that being a officer isn’t the path God wants me on.” “Okay I apologize, and your right. I didn’t know you was saving people.” “You could have known.” As I slightly raise my voice. “All you had to do was listen. Listening is hard when you only focus on yourself. Good bye.” As I start to hang up. “Wait please, I will lose my job if they find out I fired you. Please come back I’ll increase your pay, I’ll do anything just name it.” As he continues to beg. I sighed, “alright let’s make a deal.” His toned changed immediately, “Name it, anything.” I smiled “let’s both hit the red button on our phones together at the same time. Ready? Go!” As I hang up. And blocked him right after. I sighed, even with his job on the line he still couldn’t change. Alseo stood up, “you were fired? And you refused the job, why? I can’t possibly afford your place on my own.” As he starts to freak out. “Please relax, God and I will find a way.” “You couldn’t even speak to me about this? When were you going to tell me?” As he raise his voice. “Alseo that’s why I called you earlier, but you were working. I literally just woke up a couple minutes ago remember? Can you relax please.” As I said calmly. “Relax? We are going to get kicked out in less then two months. I can’t handle sixteen hundred a month, food, and everything else. I can’t. I can’t do this. You were amazing today saving those people but this was a stupid decision. I’m out of here before you drag my credit down. I’m sorry but I have to take care of myself too. We only been dating for nine months, hope you didn’t get too attached.” As he walks out my bed room, and eventually out of my house.
