Chapter 1

Chapter 1

As days went by Shelley couldn’t help but think about how her days had changed. This was not how she visualized her married life. The days seem too lengthy these days or too short. Everything feels wrong and unfair. Every time she looked at her husband the wound kept bleeding more and she couldn’t help but be the one who got away.

Derek was reminiscing about the time when he first saw his wife. He should be focusing on his project at hand and making sure that he got that deal but he kept going back to her. When Mrs. Baanders talked about a marriage proposal he couldn’t help but reject. Marrying some psycho in a rich family just won’t do for him. He did make his point clear. Kingsley smiled and said she’s no psycho. But still Derek felt like any proposal his foster parents could bring forward will be some psycho like Marnie Brontë. The secretary was a total stalker which creeped him out. But he had no choice but to go along with it since that was expected of him.

Contrary to what he expected the long plane ride didn’t end in a fort of snobbery but in a small home with a remarkably ordinary setting. To the look he passed at Baanders she replied with a smile. The men who surrounded them gave them a warm hearty welcome. But one guy seemed tense. Apparently if this proposal works out, the tense guy will be his father-in-law. And the girl is not home yet. She was supposed to arrive a few hours back. But Baanders handled the situation and left me with the strangers to mingle with the lady who’s making food.

After some 30 minutes there was Shelley Winters, all sweaty and breathing hard. She greeted everyone and looked at him, the look said sorry for keeping you waiting. But at that moment when he looked at that sweaty piece of mess, he knew he was marrying her and that bundle of cuteness would be his.

But he was only partially correct

“Hey Romeo, Where’s your head at?”

Marnie’s freaky sound brought him back to reality.

“The deal can wait a week.”

“But why, we have everything we need and it’s good for the company.”

“It’s personal, see Ya”

“What”

Derek had decided he wouldn’t tolerate any more bullshit.

TWO HOURS

Two hours from 10 pm at night. He had been waiting for his wife.

She was not home yet. If it was someone else, he would have exploded already. But Shelley was always so close to his heart that he always felt she would come around one day and he just got to wait. Three years he waited for the day. But she didn’t come around and more than that she started seeing other guys.

He could hear the keys turning. At last, she chose to enter the scene.

“WTF”

It was clear that she was shocked and scared.

“YOU scared ME. What are you doing here? How did you get in?”

“I have my ways dear. Care to explain where you were after your work hours?”

“No, Thats none of your concern.”

Shelley was surprised by everything that’s happening. She didn’t understand after 3 years of abandoning her why he was now acting like he gives a fuck about her. She kept telling her to be strong and not to lose to a dickhead. Just think about Jerome and get over this shit.

She put her bag on her table and was walking to the kitchen when she heard that” I didn’t know I was marrying a whore”, and that changed everything.

“What did u say?”

“Am I wrong? Aren’t you coming back from another man? I know u are a usual at Russel’s Cabarete. DO you think I am an idiot? You don’t actually think that. Do you? I didn’t become the CEO of Leslie Enterprises by being dumb, Shelley”

She couldn’t help but laugh at that big speech, “Wow, The great Derek Stiles and his bullshit. I don’t give a fuck, okay? I wasn’t a whore when I was marrying you, I guess. You made me into one. Maybe while fucking your secretary on my back, you should have figured the same. I’m sure you think I am dumb because I don’t manage a company where I help powerful idiots to kill each other. I actually do the opposite. I make sure everyone around me stops hurting each other. And for your great information I am not you Derek Stiles. I don’t fuck people up for my profit like you and your family. I am usual at Russel Cabarete because I’m helping the girls there to recover from their traumas. Russel himself employed me there at night so it’s not very noticeable to clients.”

There were tears rolling down her face and she sniffled and continued” Don’t you have no shame at all? You promised me a better life and company and you abandoned me for selfish reasons. 3 years and I’m seeing you now and now what? I’m a whore? I never believed in chastity. If you were fucking her, it was okay too. But you could have given me at least your friendship. I know I deserve that much.”

Shelley walked towards the kitchen. She always knew if she had an audience with Derek, it would all spill out. Thats why she never wanted him to come back after some time. But now it’s all out, she felt relaxed. He was the one who cheated on her. He was the one who abandoned her. She was not going to ruin her wonderful day just because some guy betrayed her, Jerome taught her better than that. I miss you, Jerome.

That night Shelley slept peacefully. She was relieved of her burden. But on the contrary Derek was shocked by her revelations. He knew there was a great misunderstanding.
