Prologue
Liam
I've just moved into the new school as a freshman. College life came on to me as a surprise. I still couldn't quite process the fact that a few months ago, I'm still living my usually problem filled life along with my parents and now I'm moving heavy boxes into my apartment
I'm an 18 year old and your typical nerd with my heavy rounded glasses and carry around thick books.
My mom is an overachiever, even when she was still in school so she had ( and still have) the same high expectations from me. I was pressured into heavy hours of studying ever since I can remember and it didn't thrill me to say the least
I've been called a nerd by my classmates since High school when my mom usually dressed me with with plaid jackets and styled my hair back exposing my forehead
But now, I live my life alone in an apartment in the city and finally I could be free from her grasp
First day of school. I was feeling kinda ecstatic about it but my excitement fell to the floor as I arrived to my study hall after getting lost on my way
The study hall was a mess, random doodles written along the wall and the board was not cleaned right
Everyone stared as I opened the door, expecting that I was a new teacher and settled down
I teasingly went to the teacher's desk but I quickly scanned the room for an empty seat
Murmurs filled the lecture hall as I made my way into the empty seat on the far back. "Is this seat taken" I asked the boy beside me. He was wearing a red jacket with a yellow shirt underneath and his head buzzed with intricate linings on it
"No" he answered, reluctantly lifting his head to face me
I took the seat and placed my heavy books onto the table. Everyone was still staring once they saw the stack of books I had and I could hear muffled laughter from across the room
"Man you really spooked us, we thought you're the professor" the guy Infront of me said with a smile
"I'm Jason by the way, what's your name?" He introduced himself as he stretched out his arm to shake my hand
I shook his arm reluctantly as I introduced myself next
"I'm Liam. Just Liam" I said and he nodded, probably making sure to not forget it
"Whoah, Liam, what an awesome name, glad to meet you" he said with his now radiating bright smile.
No doubt Jason is a very positive and an outgoing person, but I'm really not used to this friendly smile since all I had for a friend was my mother
I brusheded the unusual feeling off and I better get used to him since I know he's gonna stick long and if I want someone to get along with me
Another person came in and I knew for sure he'd be my own personal hell. It was Austin, my bully from grade school up until highschool and my senior years. Austin always bullied me for how I dressed and for how I looked especially my hair
I looked into his direction but looked away shortly as he saw me. Thank goodness my hair is not in it's usual style. I've stopped using the usual gel my mom put on my hair because it's smell made me feel uneasy
I shook my long hair that usually covered my half of my face and looked down and pretended to read a book...
Upside down?!
It was too late to adjust the book as Austin already saw me and is coming to my direction. All I could do now is pray that he didn't notice me
"You got your book upside down, nerd" he said as if it was casual as he sat down in the row next to us
I wished it was a dream but Austin came closer and was practically face to face with me. Great. Just my luck, my own personal hell is haunting me till college
I grunted as I faced up to look at Austin and there's an easily noticeable grin on his well defined face. I just imagine it as a punching bag sometimes in situations just like this
"College is gonna be easy" he said in his usual cocky tone
I glared at his direction and got a smirk in return. I hate this guy. Why would he be in the same school as I am?
I shrugged as the professor came busting in through the door. Finally class is about to start. Everyone sat straight and silenced as the man upfront introduced himself
"Hi I'm Mr. David Harrison, I've been teaching at this school for four years now and expect a lot from you freshmen" he said with a bright painted smile on his face
"Please excuse the random things written on the wall as they were not cleaned properly before the start of classes" he excused
With that, he gave us a light exercise to do as he sat down on his own table upfront
Classes got done in a whim where mostly the professors introduced themselves, chatted with us or called on our names to get to know us
Everyone was already out by the time our last class ended but Austin stuck around, sleeping and practically drooling on his desk
I couldn't care less if they accidentally lock him up inside when they don't see him, why is he sleeping inside the lecture hall in the first place
I took my bag and hurried up to leave but I felt an unfamiliar hand grab onto mine as I exited quiet room
"Don't leave" it said, letting out a faint cry. It was Austin
"Get your hand off of me!" I exclaimed which made him flinch and jolt up from the seat he was sleeping on
"What is your problem nerd" he said in annoyance while wiping his tired eyes
"I said get your hands off of me! Why are you sleeping here anyways" I said
"First of all, I wouldn't even touch you voluntarily because I might get infected by your nerdy virus and second of all, you didn't have to scream like I'm doing something to you" he said with gritted teeth
I rolled my eyes at him and pulled my hand away as I proceeded to leave
I could hear him still cursing me out as I was leaving the lecture hall. I don't care if he cuss me out, if a professor comes around and hears him, they'll probably give him a good lecturing
As I walked my way outside the building, I saw students scattered around on the field, both seniors and freshmen. I could see from the distance Jason.
He was sitting alone under a tree where he had his headphones on and reading a unfamiliar book
I saw Jason back at lunch earlier with his usual bright personality sitting with some people, whom I assume are his friends. He asked me if I would like to join them, but I got some disgusted looks from some of his friends so I politely declined
I went towards his direction and sat Infront of him. "That book looks good" I said starting up the conversation
He didn't hear me at first but saw me when he looked up so he got a bit startled. He flinched back but when he saw it was me, he took his headphones off and proceeded to talk
"Sorry man, I didn't hear you" he said apologetically
"No, it's alright" I said with a smile
He smiled back and proceeded to put his book away, giving his full attention towards me
"So how was today?" He asked
"Well it's okay I guess, it's just any normal school and I'm still adjusting" I said looking down at the grass and gently running my hands through them
"Well, same here" he responded
We chatted for a while before we got up and proceeded to go home. He insisted that he drops me off as he said he doesn't live that far away and I said "no" but gave up eventually
"Whoah I didn't know you live here" he said standing in awe on the relatively tall apartment building
"Yeah" I responded
We rode the elevator up to my floor and yet again surprised when Jason spoke up "And we're nextdoor neighbors!?" He said randomly
I didn't think he would be my nextdoor neighbor. So that's why he said he didn't live far away
"Are you serious?" I asked in curiosity
"Yes!" He exclaimed
Wow, I didn't expect to gain a friend and a neighbor. I entered my now home as Jason and I said our goodbyes
Well not exactly since I invited him over to hangout
I have already changed into more comfortable clothing when Jason knocked on the front door bringing an unexpected Friend
