Chapter 1
"Cancer? How can she have cancer?" Jayden said, leaning over the doctor's table.
Doctor Paul gave an audible sigh. "I can't exactly tell, Jayden. It started off as a benign tumor. We were going to remove it but she didn't want to go under the knife if it wasn't even life threatening. Just for this to happen and...I am sorry, I sound very unprofessional right now but...she is in stage four. There is not much we can do."
Jayden let out a small breath, his eyes filling with tears. His father had died when he was fifteen, leaving the Stone fortune under his mother. Now nineteen years old and still a senior in high school, the only thing he had learnt over the years is how to stick with his mother.
Now this.
"She...she has at least a year, does she not? Please tell me she does."
Doctor Paul shook his head. "I can't tell. We will have to monitor it. There are chemotherapy treatment and surgical procedures...but to be honest, it just...makes the last days even worse."
"Last days..." Jayden reiterated, his heart breaking as he heard it. "We are already talking about her last days?"
"I am sorry."
Jayden shook his head and wiped the tears with the back of his hand. "Excuse me."
Doctor Paul nodded and Jayden slowly, feel walked out of the office. He leaned on the door as he closed it, then covered his month with his hand to shut his tears.
His breath hitched in his throat, his body spasming. What would he do now?
"Jayden." Isabella said once he entered the hospital ward, her smile still as beautiful as ever.
He mirrored her smile a little forcefully, tucking his hands in his pockets so she didn't see how he trembled.
"How do you feel?" He asked her, occupying the seat that had been his ever since she slumped in her office into a pool of blood she had vomited.
"I am strong. Don't you know how strong your mother is?"
Jayden chuckled a little sadly. "I guess you are."
She smiled and extended her hand to touch his, clasping them. Her palms were still soft like she was in her youthful days, her smile bright like she wasn't dying.
Jayden struggled to keep yeartears away, even though the way she touched him made it extremely hard. Just when would he hsve to say goodbye to this feeling? Just when will he have to go by without it?
"You seem down."
He shook his head. "Just tired."
"When I get out of here...I will take care of everything so you can rest as much as you want, okay? You won't have to worry about a single thing."
He nodded, then leaned on her, and she let her fingers skim into his hair. He closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling, as his heart broke over and over again.
When she got out of here...but she probably wouldn't.
