Rumpelstiltskin But With A Dark Twist

It was midday and the Miller’s were on a family outing around the market. The boiling sun was staring down onto the kingdom. As the Miller’s are walking through the marketplace Mr Miller sees one of his old friends.

“Jeffery is here I’m going to go say hi. I will meet you and the kids back at the house soon.” Mr Miller says.

He waits for an answer from his wife.

After a few brief moments she responds with. “Okay dear tell his wife I say hi.”

Mr Miller walks over to Mr Landgrab (Jeffery) He has a bit of a spring in his step as he walks up to Mr Landgrab.

“Good Morning Jeffery!” Mr Miller exclaims.

“Ah! Good Morning Matthew” Jeffery replied. “How are you today?”

“Not too bad. I heard you got that new job working for the King.”

“Yes. It’s very nice. I mean the pay is good and my daughters have a better chance of an education. Top of their class and so is my little boy.”

“Well my daughters are also top of their class. In fact my middle child is so smart that she can spin straw into gold.”

“Wow, that certainly is a wonder. None of my daughters could ever bet that.”

“Yes. Anyway I’ll be going, my wife and children will be waiting for me at home.”

“Same here I will see you later. Goodbye Matthew.”

“Goodbye Jeffery.”

Matthew trudged back home. Meanwhile Jeffery has an idea. He runs back to the palace in which the King lives and tells him that the Miller’s middle daughter Elena can spin straw into gold. The King thanks Mr Landgrab for this news and orders the guards to go to the Miller’s house and get their daughter. As requested the palace guards leave to go to the Miller’s house. They rode on the backs of their majestic horses and headed for the outskirts of the town where the Miller’s lived. Soon the guards were knocking on the Miller’s door and asking for Matthew Miller and Elena Miller.

“The King will be here shortly to speak to you.” One of the guards said. He was in a different uniform then everyone else and seemed to be the leader as his horse was at the front. As they waited outside the cold breeze swept through their hair. What seemed like 100 years later the King finally arrived.

“I have come for your daughter Miss Elena Miller. I heard that she can spin straw into gold and I need gold. She must do this or she will be executed.” The king bellowed.

Mr Miller knew that his daughter couldn’t spin straw into gold and she would be executed so he stepped in front of his daughter and said “No! You’re not taking her, she’s my daughter!”

“Very well then I will just have to kill you instead.” The king responded.

And with that Mr Miller was stabbed. Blood spewed from his mouth. He was stabbed 17 more times just for good measure. Then he was decapitated. The King was afraid that the rest of the family saw what happened and would tell the kingdom so he did the same with all of the Miller’s, all except Elena. Then Elena was kidnapped and brought back to the palace. She was then placed in the dark dingy basement usually used for execution. Although most of the bodies had been cleared from the room there were still a few bones that lay in one of the corners of the room. There were mountains of straw in the room. There was a small window with bars on it to ensure that no one ever got out. The old moss covered bricks looked as though they could be easily chipped away but Elena knew that there would probably be a steel layer behind the bricks. Right in the middle of the room however stood a brand new pristine spinning wheel much like the ones Elena would see in store windows. She had always wanted a brand new spinning wheel but had to stick with her old family one seeing as they couldn’t afford a new one. The guard shoved her in the room and went in to

Right in the middle of the room however stood a brand new pristine spinning wheel much like the ones Elena would see in store windows. She had always wanted a brand new spinning wheel but had to stick with her old family one seeing as they couldn’t afford a new one. The guard shoved her in the room and went in to momentarily join her. He had a bag with him that seemed to have a lot of blood in it. He went over to an old mouldy wooden shelf which Elena hadn’t noticed before. There he reached into a bag and placed each object on the shelf one by one. Elena couldn’t see what he was placing because his big burly body was in the way. As the man quickly moved away from the shelf Elena could see exactly what was on the shelf. She stood there in horror as the familiar faces of her family were right in front of her. Their heads had been decapitated from their bodies and their eyes clawed out of their heads. Suddenly there was a creak in the floorboards. Elena quickly turns her head to the entrance of the basement. There standing in the doorway just hiding in the shadows stood the King. Elena had never realised how tall he was up until now. Mind you should have never really seen the King before. He slowly walked towards her and bent down over her.

“You see all of this straw around the room.” He says gesturing to the piles of straw. “I want you to spin it into gold otherwise I will have you executed and your head will sit on the shelf next to the rest of your family.” She starts trembling in fear and nods slowly. He and the guard left her in the room and locked the door. She didn’t know how to spin straw into gold if that was even possible. She needed a plan to escape. But just as she was thinking of a plan a little man shows up out of nowhere.

“Who are you?” Elena asks.

“That doesn’t matter.” The little man responds “what matters now is that you are about to be executed if you don’t spin this straw into gold. But you can’t spin straw into gold so for the small price of that necklace I will do it for you.” He says pointing to the necklace that hung around Elena’s neck. It was a simple silver chain and a small emerald at the end.

“But this is a family heirloom. It’s the only thing that I have of them apart from their heads.” Elena says gesturing to the shelf. “Besides, how do I know that you can spin straw into gold?”

“Here how about I give you a small demonstration and then you can give me your necklace and I’ll do the rest.”

“Okay.”

The little man then leaps up onto the seat next to the spinning wheel and starts spinning the straw into gold. After a few strands of straw he leaps back down and holds out his hand. Still skeptical but desperate Elena hands over the necklace and quickly goes to sleep still tired from the long day. The next morning when Elena wakes up the little man and straw are no longer there but instead towers of gold stand around the room. The King is standing once more in the doorway of the basement staring at the gold in awe. After a few brief moments he says.

“I want more of it. I will give you more straw and you will give me more gold.” and with that men walked in and took away the gold and put in more straw. Yet again Elena was locked in the dark, cold, creepy basement. After everyone was gone the little man showed up again.

“So you’re stuck in this situation again. Same deal as last time, only this time your ring.” Says the little man.

“Okay” Elena responds.

And once again Elena goes to sleep and when she wakes up there is gold shimmering all around her. Once more the king comes and asks for more gold but this time if she does then she gets to marry him if not then she will have to face execution. Then the King leaves with all the gold and has more straw placed in the basement. Elena sits on the cold floor and starts to debate what she would want more to be married to the King (who was an alcoholic) while she was 13 and he was 39 or face execution. She then decides that it would be best to get married to him and after a few years kill him and play helpless widow. Then the little man popped out of thin air and stood right in front of Elena.

“I have nothing to give you.” Elena says. “I already gave you all of my items that have value.”

“Well that may be so you can always get me something in the future when you’re married to that man. Your first born child perhaps.”

Elena thinks about his offer for a little bit and reluctantly gives into an answer.

“Okay I’ll give you my first born child.

Elena then falls asleep and then once again when she wakes up there is no little man, no strawn only gold. The King comes down the next morning and tells her that they are to get married in a few months and needs to get fitted for a dress. She also has free rein of the palace. A year after all of this Elena is married to the KIng with her first born child and has forgotten all about the little man. Or at least she had until the little man shows up out of the blue asking for her first born child. Although the baby was only a few days old Elena had been carrying it for the past 9 months and became quite attached to it.

“Please no I don’t want to give up my child I will do anything for you to not take them away from me.”

“Fine then if you can guess my name I will let you keep the child I will show up everyday waiting for your guesses I give you three days. If you have not been able to figure out my name by then I am taking your child and there is nothing you can do to stop me.” And with that the little man disappeared. Elena immediately ran and told the King about what happened and that they needed to gather up all of the names in the town and show them to the little man until they got the right one. Of course the King immediately agrees to help or at least acts like he is. For the next two days the little man shows up and each day he tells them that none of those names are his. The King acts happy to hear this news but inside he’s sad and angry. This is because he didn’t want Elena to guess Rumpelstiltskin’s name; he hated the child and thought it was ugly and wanted to get rid of it. He then told the person not to tell anyone the name. The person not being too bright and the fact that he was talking to the King didn’t question it for one second and left. When the third day rolled around Elena still didn’t know the name of the little man.

“Rumpelstiltskin is my name. You did not guess it so now I must take your child.” Says Rumpelstiltskin deviously.

“No Please don’t.” Elena responded. “I would give you anything, even a limb if you let me keep my child.”

“Fine, then give me your arm.” Rumpelstiltskin says.

Elena grabbed a dagger out of her pocket and sliced her arm clean off and handed it to Rumpelstiltskin. The King continues to stand there in horror. But soon Elena realises that she is going to bleed to death so using the same dagger she used to give her arm to Rumpelstiltskin she stabs the King with it 30 times. Then she bleeds out and dies. Rumpelstiltskin runs back to his cottage with the baby and the arm. Once he is back in the cottage he gets a fire started and enchants the arm to do things like cook and clean.

“Ah yes, perfect.” Rumpelstilitskin said “This arm will do all of the ‘motherly’ things of raising this child while raising it for war and crime.”
