The heat beat down Marishka’s back feeling like an ant under a magnifying glass being burned alive. Breathing out a heavy breath she looked around the track field seeing everyone else still jogging around talking to their friends except Sookie James. Her blonde curl’s fell down her back and over her shoulders as she leaned up against the fence with her forearms holding her up against the metal.
She stood in the middle of the track wondering what was really up with her, and why people avoided her like the plague. “Hey air head! Quit your starin at the freak won’t you.” Giggled Maudet, who grabbed Marishka by the hand and pulled her along to start jogging once again as Sookie’s dark chocolate brown eyes met her hazel one’s. With a slight wave of her hand Sookie turned her head staring at the woods that surrounded the high school. “Why did you do that? You know she heard you right? You didn’t have to be so mean.” Marishka said, snatching her hand from her friends as she stopped jogging wishing for a cool breeze or preferably rain so gym could be over.
“Look she’s a freak okay, everyone in town knows that her family runs through the woods at night and burnin things. Even my cousin Sasha said that she saw that freaks brother walkin off trail to the Black Lake naked yesterday when her and my uncle were going huntin.” Maudet said, stopping her jog and turning around rolling her eyes as they narrowed in the direction of Sookie. “That’s just rumors that you shouldn’t believe in the first place. And her brother really? Weren’t you the one that said you had caught Jake and Viki in the same woods in Black Lake kissing naked?” She questioned, folding her arms shaking her head.
“My cousin don’t lie and neither do I, you know that and you don’t know her so don’t try to defend something that doesn’t even matter in the first place.” Maudet said, flipping her chestnut ponytail over her shoulder turning on her tiptoe’s. Seeing Jake talking to Coach Williams as she said, “Hello, Jake how was your weekend?” Walking over to them and swaying her hips more to gain his attention. Which his brown eyes were too busy staring at Marishka who started to walk in the opposite direction. She walked over to the bleachers grabbing her water bottle off of the bench feeling someone’s eyes on her back.
“I don’t see why your breaking up with me, I mean you should be great full that I decided to go out with you. No one else would even look at you because of your family and how you are. Like chanting in the woods around a fire with cutting people open and stuff like what is wrong with you?” A small high pitch voice said under the bleachers. Looking up she spotted two people under the bleachers with the tall girl having her back turned with a pixie hair cut. The guy on the other hand stood tall towering over her by three inches with his arms crossed. Over a broad chest, biceps flexing with the movement showing off his sun kissed light tanned skin.
He wore a black short sleeve shirt with faded blue jeans that had a few slight rips on the leg and knee of the jeans and a chain that’s hooked to the second belt loop that disappeared under his shirt to the back pocket of his jeans. Sucking her teeth she said, “oh so now you can’t speak huh?” She asked, cocking her hip out staring up at him when he finally looked at Marishka keeping his eye contact with her. Jumping up with her shoe slipping off of the bleacher and stumbling trying to catch her own balance till the last two bleachers were coming at her fast.
Closing her eyes preparing herself for the on coming pain. When it didn’t come she cracked open one eye seeing that she was three inches away from having her face kissing the metal. Feeling a tight grip under her arms she looked up into dark moss green eyes with a spark of something deep in them that she didn’t quite understand. Lifting her up she stumbled a little not having her footing still staring wide eyed at the guy who steadied her. “Uh um thank you for uh helping me.” She stammered, feeling nervous all of a sudden and wondered how was he able to come from behind the bleachers so fast.
“Just watch where you’re going next time.” He said, with a gruff tone releasing her as he stepped away looking her slowly up and down. “Um what? Excuse me? I didn’t ask for your help and the least you could say is thank you.” She said rolling her eyes at him when the pixie girlfriend walked up the bleachers screaming at them. “So that’s what you’ve been doing seeing some loser instead of spending time with me! Are you freaking serious Rhyne!” Marishka’s eye’s grew a little wide
