Chapter 1

‘WHAT WAS THAT FOR!’ Ghyllian yelled. Harper and Autumn burst into laughter. Thorne was rolling around the grassy cliff clutching his chest, struggling to breath with how much he had been laughing. Ghyllian waded out of the lake, his clothes clinging to his body.

‘I’ll kill you Thorne!’ Ghyllian screamed as he ran up the side of the cliff. Both Harper and Autumn followed and held Ghyllian back from beating Thorne to a pulp. Autumn handed Ghyllian a towel and a change of clothes before he wandered into the woods to get dried and changed.

‘Autumn’s the only one stopping me from killing those idiots’ he muttered to himself. When he returned to the group, he found the others sitting on the sand in a circle, chatting animatedly.

’What you talking about? ’He asked grumpily as he sat down with them.

‘We’re talking about the new school that we’re going to after the summer holidays’ Autumn replied.

‘I don’t want to go back to school’ Harper and Thorne complained in unison.

‘Tuff luck’ Ghyllian snapped harshly. The four were going to a boarding school for mythical creatures. They assumed they would all be in different classes as they were all different creatures; Ghyllian an elf, Autumn a fawn, Harper a dwarf and Thone a centaur.

The last few days of summer went by, and the new school year came around. The four stood by the bus station in their new uniform and their suitcases by their feet. They’re all hugging their parents, exchanging last minutes whispers and gifts. Harper’s mum handed her a large axe with Viking runes engraved on it. Harper’s eyes lit up as she took the gift, a huge grin on her face. The bus arrived and the group said their final goodbyes to their families and found somewhere to sit on the bus. The two girls and Ghyllian found a seat and Thorne had to stand because the bus didn’t have anywhere big enough for a centaur to lay down! Harper didn’t say anything but felt sorry for him as the drive to the new school was two hours long. The group arrived at the school gates and, with suitcases in hand, they stepped through the large metal gates to their new home.
