Chapter 1
“Hey Cass, Catch!” I heard behind me and I quickly ducked to prevent the gulf ball from hitting me. Fortunately, I saved myself from getting hit by the ball but not the mug standing on the kitchen cabinet. “What did you do?!” Ashley exclaimed, as her mouth dropped open. “When? You were the one who threw the fucking ball!” I snapped back. Ashley was my younger sister. She’s fifteen but acts nineteen. Sick.
I’m Cassie Oliver. I am a model student and I am eighteen. The model student part may not be so true though, I mean I am the top of my class and the school, but folks at my school don’t really care about grades. It’s all about Fashion, relationships, sex, and drugs. Luckily and unluckily, I do not give a shit. Because I’m a literal nerd and basically the most unnoticed person who ever walks down the hallway. What a life!
“You always use swear words when mum isn’t home. I could tell her.” Ashley said. “Don’t you dare!” “Chill. I won’t tell on you if you don’t tell on me.” She said smiling. She was so bad. “Why the hell did you throw that? You literally just broke dad’s favorite mug” I said in awe. “Okay, listen. A single gulf ball can’t just break a mug. It was probably dying before the gulf ball hit it. Besides, none of these would have happened if you hadn’t ducked” she said. She was unbelievable. “Whatever. Destroy the evidence, and prepare for school. I’m leaving” I said, as I carried my bag pack.
I got to school a little late basically because of the coffee mug saga. “Miss. Oliver, would you like to explain why you’re walking in by this time?” Mr. Christopher, the AP Biology said, and everyone turned to me. It was nothing new to me to be looked at with prying eyes, but I found it embarrassing when Klaus looked at me that way too. “There was a bit of a situation at home. I’m so sorry.” I replied, before he let me go to my seat. “What’s up?” Kat asked, as I went to sit beside her. “It was Ashley. Again.” “Are you sure she’s actually your biological sister?” she asked, and I raised a brow. “I’m sorry but she’s just so weird. Sometimes, I think she was sent specially to ruin your life” she said. “Ashley is kind of off, but I think she kinda has a sweet side” I said, and immediately started to wonder why I said that. Kat was so right about Ashley being weird. “You don’t mean that, do you?” “You know I don’t” I replied. Kat was my best friend since pre- school and our mothers were very close friends. At times, we got kind of uncomfortable about it. We know everything about each other, hang out most times and have sleepovers. She was my only friend in school and in real life and probably the only person who doesn’t see me as a nerd. “Miss. Oliver and Miss. Cyrus please switch seats” Mr. Christopher said, and my heart skipped a beat as I and Kat looked at each other. If I was switching seats with Madison, that meant I was to sit next to Klaus. I froze for a while and Kat gave me a light push for me to move. “Yes, Yes! We should switch seats!” I blurted out stupidly, and Madison looked at me confused. “Be careful. Don’t get too close” She said, as she walked past me.
I sat beside Klaus and exhaled silently. “Are you having difficulties breathing?” He asked, and I turned to him. “What? NO. I mean… Madison told me not to get too close” I said, and he laughed. He was so hot. Don’t get it wrong. I didn’t have a crush on him, I just found him so attractive. “I’m Nicklaus Coleman” he said. “Cassie Oliver. I… I know your name.” I said, and he raised a brow. “We actually attend the same classes” I added, and he nodded. “Yeah. I know you too. We just haven’t like spoken before so I thought it would be nice to introduce myself” Wait… he knew me? Damn, this was going well. “Nice” I said, smiling. I literally couldn’t hide my smile. “You have a pretty smile” he said, after studying me for a while. “Thank you” I replied. “Would you like to grab lunch together some time?” he asked, and I was silent. I’m sorry for thinking too far but this whole thing just feels like he’s kind of into me. “Sure. I mean, I always eat lunch with Kat, but yeah I could grab lunch with you some time.” I said, trying to hide the smile coming to my face. For the first time, I didn’t want a period to end. Maybe, just maybe I had a crush on Klaus. And maybe, I’d had a crush on him for a pretty long time. I wasn’t planning on ending the conversation anytime sooner, and I was literally in his getting lost beautiful golden brown eyes.
