Griller

Getting shot was the last thing I expected when the war finally came to us, but I wasn’t expecting to have one of my brothers in a coma. We don’t know if Ink is ever going to wake up, but if we have faith, I know he’ll wake up. His time isn’t over yet, but right now he needs to rest so his body can heal.

Seven months ago, one of our own was taken. Kelsey was at the park, trying to calm herself down after having an argument with her dad. She had just lost her mom, and then her dad told her he was going on a trip for a couple of weeks. It was system overload for her, and she just took off. She’s always been a bit on the dramatic side. I’m sure it’s from hanging out with Aliana too much when she was younger. I also understand why she was acting the way she was. Her life just turn upside down.

The Supremacy didn’t make a move since we took the son, and they took Kelsey for three months. Quinten, Maci’s ex, and his partner were working for those three months trying to get information from Ken, the son, but he was tight lipped. That is, until Maci’s uncle came in. Not her blood uncle, the leader of the Supremacy, but her adopted uncle. He’s a bad ass and one man you do not want to cross. His face is riddled in scars from his line of work, and he has a serious scowl on his face that I’m about eighty percent sure is permanent. It could rival the one Ghost used to have before he met his ol’ lady.

We were in the middle of church when all hell broke loose. I didn’t expect for two of my brothers to fall. I didn’t expect for myself to be injured, but we came out the winners. I’d like to say that’s all that matters, but when one of my brothers is in a coma, it’s hard to feel happy about winning a battle that we’ve been fighting for more than a year. How can you celebrate when one of your own is fighting for his life? The happiness just isn’t there. The joy of coming out on top, of destroying one of the biggest threats that we have faced, just isn’t there.

I ended up getting shot in the chest, and I just got out of the hospital a month ago after fighting an infection, and I’m going stir crazy. My mom was up my ass the entire time I was in the hospital and when I came home. She insisted that I stayed at her and my dad’s house, but I just wanted to be in my own home, surrounded by my own things.

I haven’t been able to be home much since I was in hiding from a bitch that decided to get too clingy. I don’t do relationships. I’m still young. At twenty-six, I’m not ready to settle down. I’m enjoying being an unmarried person. Now, I’m not saying that if the right one doesn’t come along, that I won’t jump on that ship because I would. I’ve seen my brothers settle down and start families. I want that, but I don’t want it with just anyone.

It also doesn’t help that my mom is harping on me to settle down because I’m not getting any younger and neither is she. She says that she needs more grandbabies. My brother, Axyl, and his ol’ lady, Aliana, have six kids just between them, and I’m sure that if the opportunity arises and Ali’s prognosis changes, they’ll have more. That doesn’t matter to my mom. She wants both of her children to settle down and start a family. She also has the rest of the brothers’ children to love on, but she says it’s not the same. I’ll get there when I meet the right one. I’ll know when it happens, but I won’t force it with some muffler bunny, or any club pussy.

“Got a lead. You good to ride?” I look up to my president and take stock of myself. I’ve been so lost in thought that I hadn’t been paying a bit of attention during church. Not that we have much to talk about right now. We can’t do anything about Ink, Ghost is healed, and so am I. The club has been quiet since the war. I’m not sure how long it’s going to last but might as well enjoy it.

“Yeah. I’m good pres. What do you have for me?” I lean up in my seat and place my elbows on the table.

“Kelsey was spotted. Need you and a few brothers to ride out and bring her home. I don’t want you to return until she’s with you. From what our contact says, they’re planning to move her to another area. She doesn’t look good. She might not have much longer left.” I meet Ghost’s eyes to see them filled with anger and hurt. He wants to be there for his sister, but he also needs to be here for his ol’ lady.

“I’ll bring her back brother. I’ll also kill every one of those men that have her. I don’t care if they laid a hand on her. They’re with the enemy. I’ll make sure they all pay. She’s one of our own. Our little sister. She deserves justice and she deserves to be home. I will stop at nothing until she’s back where she belongs.” I turn my attention back to my president. “I’m going to take Hatchet, Nitro, Batman, and Menace. I don’t want to take too many men in case they’re expecting us. The less there are of us, the better our chances of getting in and out are.”

“Good. Any other business?” At the sound of silence, Westyn bangs the gavel on the table, and we all file out of the room. I’ve got a job to do, and I need to get my tools. We may not be a one percenter club anymore, but we still take care of our problems in house when we need to. This is one of those instances.

After I get what I need from my room, I load it into my saddlebags before I head in to let the men riding out with me that we’ll be leaving tonight. We’ll get the address, hopefully, by nightfall tomorrow and be heading back that following morning. I’m going to have Nitro and Menace driving a cage in case she’s in no shape to ride. I can feel it in my gut that she’s going to be worse off than we think she is. I just know this is going to be hard for her to come back from, but with all of us in her corner, she’ll make it. I know she will.

I walk back into the main room of the clubhouse to see my president and one of our enforcers in a stupor. They’re looking at Brighton, frozen. “Mama Elise! The boys are going crazy in here!” No sooner do the words get out of her mouth when I hear the unmistakable sound of water hitting the floor. I’m not sure what to do in this situation either, so I stand there like my brothers. Like a goddamn statue.

“What is going on in here?” I look up when Elise comes into the main room of the clubhouse. She takes in the state of the three of us standing so still you must look closely to make sure we’re still breathing. This isn’t even my kid and I’m freaking the fuck out. You’d think we’d all be experienced enough with all the women who have given birth here, that we wouldn’t freeze up when one goes into labor, but that’s not the case.

“My water just broke, and Westyn isn’t any help.” Elise calls for Robert, Westyn’s dad, who proceeds to slap each of the men in the back of the head. Westyn goes into action, picking up Brighton from the couch and taking her towards their room here at the clubhouse. Clinton moves to get the bags they had stashed here in case this happened here. I finally break out of my stupor and hold the door open when Westyn comes rushing through. When he’s out the door, I rush ahead of him to open his truck door. Before I know it, they’re off to the hospital.

I don’t have to leave for a few more hours, so I head towards my truck since it’s too damn cold to ride the bike, but I’m going to ride it to get Kelsey. It’ll be quicker to take the bike than it will to take a bunch of cages. It’s like looking at a convoy with all the vehicles following our president and his ol’ lady to the hospital. Each of us are going to be there for them, just like we were for the others.

It’s been hours and the baby is planning to be stubborn a little longer. However, it’s time for me to take off. I’ve got a girl to save and men to kill. I’ll be damned if I let her stay in their clutches any longer than she already has been. Westyn will understand where I went when he comes out and I’m not here. I have a job to do, one that he gave me, and I won’t push it back. It’s time to bring our little sister back finally. It’s been seven months since she’s been with those assholes, and I won’t have her there a minute longer. It’s time to get shit done.
