Chapter 1 The girls
Start writing here…It's noon on Friday and Marcy comes through the door and runs right upstairs, while not even closing the door behind her.
Marcy... Ms Cathcart yells, why are you not in school?
Marcy fails to answer so Ms Cathcart heads upstairs to find out what the problem is.
Knock knock..Marcy can I come in the nun asks.
Please go away. I'll come down later.
Ms Cathcart was having none of it. It's one thing to not want to talk but all kids must be in school unless there's a good reason, and she was not leaving until she heard it.
Ms Cathcart walked in the room to find Marcy laying on her bed staring at the ceiling.
What's the matter she asks? Did something happen in school? Did you fight with those kids again?
Marcy was 16. She had long brown hair and green eyes. A very pretty girl with average height but a little too thin for the nuns liking. As friendly and kind as she was she had a hard time letting people get close to her. Trust was very important to her and she had been let down to much.
Growing up was pretty good for Marcy . She lived a normal childhood in a stable home. It wasn't until she was about 11 things went south. Her father had got hooked on drugs and her mother was constantly fighting with him and telling him to get out. The lying, not working, and stealing had become too much for her. After dealing with this for 3 years Jane ended up hooked on drugs as well. She and Terry left while Marcy was in school and never returned. So at 14 Marcy was homeless until the nuns tool her in.
Ms Cathcart sat down beside her on the bed and asked again. Child what is the matter with you today.
It's just the I know the new girl is coming today and I didn't want her to be in my room when I'm not here. What if she takes my stuff or she.
Or she what asks the nun. You know we have rules here about each others space and privacy. You also know you have to share the room when needed. Marcy don't fret the small things. You two could end up being the best of friends as she's almost 16 too.
Marcy knew Ms Cathcart meant well but she didn't trust many people. Not that she had much but the little she had was hers and she didn't like the idea of a stranger touching it.
What time does she get here and what's her name, Marcy asked.
She should be here around 3 and her name is Katherine, but she likes to be called Kat.
With that Marcy just rolled over to avoid anymore conversation. Used to and understanding her the nun got up and left.
Marcy layed there anxiously waiting. Wondering what the new girl was like and if they'd get along. Was she in the same grade? Would they be in the same class? Will we be friends? All these things floating around her mind. Meanwhile she longed for a good friend one she could talk to and trust.
It's 310 and the bedroom door opens. A blonde blue eyed girl walks in followed by a nun. Marcy had fallen asleep so she was a bit foggy.
Hey says the blonde girl I'm Kat. Marcy nods her head and says hey I'm Marcy. That's your side of the room. All you have to do is put your clothes away if you have any and your bathroom stuff. The nun didn't feel needed anymore so she left.
Marcy got a good vibe from Kat and loosened up a bit. She even got up to help her unpack while giving her the rundown of the home and asking lots of questions.
Dinner time had come and they're not to be late so Marcy said come with me and I ll show you where we sit. After all there was 18 girls there of different ages so they had their own jobs and seats.
Keisha and Olivia whom shared a room always sat with Marcy. These three seemed pretty close as friends. Since they were either the same age or a year apart. They came from similar situations, and went to the same school so they were always around each other.
Keisha was a rather quiet 16 year old. She was of Jamaican descent but born in the U.S.A. . Very pretty girl with her hair done in braids all the time. However she was not as thin as the other girls but she didn't really care. Her and her sister Jade had come to the home roughly two years ago. The odd time her grandma or aunt would drop stuff off for them but never invited them over or to stay with them. Keisha really had no use for them because of this.
Olivia was a blonde haired, blue eyed 15 year old. A rather reserved girl and quite shy around people she didn't know well. She had been in the home over five years since her mother passed away in a car accident. Her father was an alcoholic and lost his job after her mother passed so he couldn't take care of Olivia. There was no other family in California to help her since they moved there for her dad's job and nor was she close to anyone anyway.
Girls this is Kat my new roommate. The girls looked in shock as Marcy seemed to have taken to this girl rather quickly and thats not like her. The two looked at each other then at Kat. They then both said hey and told her their names. The four of them just started to laugh.
They went up to the table and got their food, as it was kind of like a cafeteria counter. After that they all went back and sat down. No awkwardness with them. It was like they all knew each other forever. Talking and laughing til it was time to clean the dining area.
Dining area all cleaned. Now was time for showers. The girls called who wanted to go first while the other three hung out talking amongst themselves. Not too much personal talk just teen gossip and school stuff. Most girls like them don't generally wish to talk about their families too often. As some see their families around time to time but some don't.
Marcy layed in her single bed at night thinking how silly she had been today. All hyped up for nothing and it turned out great. Marcy really took a liking to the new girl in her room and was excited for the next day to get to know her better.
