Chapter 1: A Strange day
Hello, I am Bov Light I go to Green Town School and life was normal until Incog showed up. I thought he died in The Bank, killed by the police but when he cartwheeled up to my front door “you want to join?”
“Join what” I said.
Incog’s black eyes stared out through his white face mask “the shadow destroyers” he said, reaching into a pocket on his long black silk jacket. “Here, takes this kid.” He said handing me a patch with the Shadow destroyers’ logo on it.
The logo was of an s and a d, one was shadowy while the d looked like a cage.
“Yes” I Said as Incog passed me a phone.
“Use that phone if you see anything strange” Incog said as he walked away into the darkness.
Bov checks his watch it was 3.30 “time to go home I guess” he thought.
I was walking back from school when I saw a 3 story house in my street starting to fade in and out - kind of like a blip in reality or something and people inside were acting if it was normal “why are they acting like everything’s normal. I need to get home and tell Incog what I saw I thought feeling my body starting to shake in panic. I got home and opened the phone that Incog had given me - there was 2 apps: the chat app and a strange one shaped like a square.
I opened the chat app and messaged Incog:
I just saw a building fading in and out of reality.
I got a quick response from Incog:
OPEN THE SQUARE APP NOW! QUICKLY
When I opened the app a square appeared, and nothing happened for a second then I felt like I was getting sucked into the phone – and in a second I was gone. I looked around the new place it looked like nothing I could make out - everything was red – I was in some sort of hall - I moved forwards then a weird black thing appeared in front of me – it had long hands and no feet – it was like a big black puddle stuck to the ground. The scariest thing of all was that it didn’t have a face.
As it got closer I wondered “is this how I die”
“Stop now you shadow!” a cheery voice from behind me said.
“Oh boy shadows my favourite” a strange voice said they went to attack the shadow. One was a girl wearing a yellow polka dot jacket with a yellow hat on top that looked like a mushroom, she had long yellow hair.
The other person was a boy that had light blue hair, he had a blue t-shirt and trousers. The girl was using two little knives to slice at the “shadow” or whatever this thing was, the boy was using his fists.
I watched as the boy in blue punched the shadow into oblivion - the shadow was defeated.
“What are you doing in a place like this with no weapons?” the cheery girl said.
“Who are you two” I said.
“I am sunshine and this Geo by the way Geo is a robot” Sunshine said.
“Are you a robot Geo” I asked.
“I lost my original body” Geo said calmly.
“Your pretty calm about that” I said.
“As much as I want my old human body back, I just got to live with my robot body” Geo said.
“Let’s get out of here follow me” Sunshine said
Jumping out of a window at the side.
“Did she just jump out of that window?” I said.
“Don’t worry you’ll be on the ground after you jump out.” Geo said. I jumped out the window with Geo. He was right. I was right next to the fading building.
“I told you so” Geo said.
Sunshine handed me a knife, “you need a weapon if we ever go back there lucky I brought one.”
“Do you know me?” I asked.
“Did you not check who was in the shadow destroyers’ group before opening the app” Sunshine gasped.
“Do you two know where Incog is then?” I said looking at Sunshine’s strange yellow eyes.
“No idea - as soon as Incog sent the message we went to Incog’s safe house to find he wasn’t there” Sunshine said shaking her head sadly.
“I think taking down the bomb locations might help us find him” Geo said checking the app on his blue phone.
“Bomb locations?” Bov said.
“Basically”, Sunshine said “you see those weird black things we call those shadows.”
“What does this have to do with bomb locations” Bov said starting to breath faster.
“Calm down man if we work together we should be stop them” Geo said putting away his phone in the pocket of his trousers.
“anyway, let’s get back on topic” they- the shadows take a teddy and put a corruption bomb in it, if the corruption bomb goes off shadows spawn in this world” Sunshine said.
Bov looked confused.
“I don’t know what you are talking about” he said.
“That’s the best I can explain it” Sunshine said as her fists clenched in frustration.
“I Hope Incog knows more about this than you do” Bov said calmly checking his watch.
“What I need to know is where were we?” Bov said looking at Geo just shrugged.
She points at the 3-story brick house fading in and out
“the corruption world” by the way not to alarm you we only have 15 days left until the bomb goes off so if we can regroup tomorrow that would be great- so you joining us or not” Sunshine said.
Bov looked down and scratched his chin.
“Ok I have 15 days either I can join these lunatics or allow the world to be destroyed” Bov thought “If I ever have to tell this story they’ll put me in an insane asylum” Bov looked up and started to smile
“Let’s save the world” he said punching the air with his fist
“Ok sure buts dose that mean you joining” Sunshine said with a smirk on her face.
“Of course I am joining” Bov said getting louder clearly not understanding that Sunshine was joking
Geo turned sharply to look at Sunshine.
“Wait who’s going to be the leader for now?”
“How about him, Incog chose him to join the shadow destroyers - I had to train so hard to join the Shadow destroyers, clearly there’s something more to Bov than we know” Sunshine said looking at Bov up and down.
“I guess you are the leader for now Bov” Geo said as he gave me an armband with a “C” on it.
Sunshine checked her yellow polka dot watch. “It’s that time already” she said her mouth wide open.
I check my watch 7:45
I guess see you tomorrow Bov” Sunshine said with a sad look on her face.
“Do you really have to go” Sunshine said.
“Yeah or I probably be grounded by my mother” Bov said
“What’s a mother?” Sunshine said as she tilted her head
Bov and Geo gasped at Sunshine’s answer
“Well a mother is someone you work for right?” Geo said
“That’s a for a job not a mother a mother looks after you and cares for you” Bov said
My phone started ringing I picked it up
“Hello?”
“BOV! You better get back home NOW!” my mother said
“That doesn’t sound like caring to me” Geo said with a smirk on his face
“Correct buts how mothers take care of you” Bov said
“Well See you tomorrow Shadow Destroyers” He Said walking back home.
