Chapter 1
She had never felt so free, so sure. From this great height, everything was clear. All she had to do was let go. Let go of the pain, the hate, the love, the abuse. Let go of everything she had endured for the past 10 years of her life. Fear had kept her locked inside of her mind, her body, her home. “Why are we here?” she asked him as he joined her at the edge of the cliff quietly next to her. “You asked me to bring you here, now tell me why.” She said more forcefully as she stood up and looked into his eyes. He looked at her, eyes filled with hate and fire that she had grown accustomed too. “It is the perfect place.” He told her venom covering every word as it came out of his mouth. “I don’t need you anymore, but I do need money. This will be a good place to return to when I need to remember you.” He said as he smirked and pointed at the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding them. “Plus, losing your mother in a tragic accident should gain me quite a bit of sympathy. Don’t you think?” He asked her a snicker finishing the cold statement he presented her. “You are only 17. They won’t give you the money until you are 21.” She told her only child. “Eh, I know, but foster care won’t be too bad. It will only be a year and I get free college tuition. I need a good topic for my entry essay as well, so this is my best option.” he countered. “You really have thought this through.” She told him tears filling her eyes. “Yeah, aww don’t cry, I know you are proud of your son.” He told her. “Can I at least have a goodbye hug?” she asked him. “Of course, Mother.” He told her pulling her in for a final embrace. As she held her son the thought back to the little bundle of joy, she had brought home nearly 18 years earlier. Her tears were falling rapidly now, and she held on to her baby tightly. She knew there was something wrong with him ever since he was a child, but when he turned seven, he began hurting their animals and then her. She thought she could keep him contained, but now she knew she could not leave him without supervision, after all is a Mothers duty to protect her child. Even if it is from himself. “I love you.” She told her baby boy as she pulled him with her over the edge of the cliff.
