Chapter 1

Hauwa's POV

I rolled around my bed from edges to edges not wanting to get up.

But after hearing my name being yelled from downstairs by a husky masculine voice, I just had to.

It was obviously ya Amir.

"What is it now?"I grumbled while slipping on my slippers at the same time rubbing my sleepy eye.

I got downstairs and went to where the voice came from.

"Why were you calling me?"I stretched.

"Umma and aba just went out for an event, umma told me to tell you to do the laundry and get somethings from the market,"he handed a paper to me, but I didn't collect coz I was back to my sleep on the couch.

With a smacking spank at the back of my neck, I sat up instantly.

"Don't you have another way of waking someone?"I rubbed the back of my neck which felt hot.

"Take, the money's in the bookshelf. "he passed the paper and I snatched it. "I'll be out to see some of my friends, so you better be done with your chores before I get back."He pulled his sneakers from the side of the couch.

"What about safiya?"I asked scanning through the paper.

He was silent for a while before saying "Check the kitchen." and then exited the house with his phone in hand.

Finally!

The house was to me... And safiya.

I strolled to the kitchen and as I sled the door open, I was welcomed with a sharp burning smell.

The kitchen was filled with thick black smoke, and there was safiya using an apron to take the smoke out of the opened window.

I covered my nose, but the smoke still made it way to my nose.

"What are you doing?"I snapped as I opened the back door allowing most of the smoke escape into the atmosphere.

The kitchen became a little bit clear.

"I was baking."she pointed to a charcoal black substance on the counter.

"And who gave you permission?"I held her by the hand and pulled her out of the kitchen.

"Ya Amir."she replied putting on her innocent look.

Safiya was my sister, and she was nothing close to innocent, she might look innocent, but don't let that fool you. She could do things you would never expect a twelve years old to do.

"This boy."I muttered under my breath. "Stay here and don't move,"I walked to the kitchen before turning back to face safiya. "Not even an inch."I wiggled my finger.

She still had her innocent look on and just nodded, then I entered the kitchen.

"Safiya be fast, Ya Amir will be back very soon."I yelled from outside to Safiya's room window.

"Just a sec."she yelled back.

I waited patiently and then finally she showed up.

"What took you so long?"I widened my eyes once I saw her only dressed in a tee shirt and blue denim jeans.

"My room was a mess."she gave an attitude. "Let's just go."I locked the door then placed the key _in our secret place_ under the doormat then safiya and I set off for the market.

Safiya was so restless.

If not mistakenly pushing down one of the traders goods, she's mistakenly stepping into potholes filled with mud.

"I wish my dream of marrying you off came true."I told her after stopping at a tap to wash her legs for the third time.

We finally got to were Umma usually bought things from in the market.

As I bought an item, safiya ticked the item on the paper.

After we were done, we headed for home.

"Can I hold the nylons?"safiya asked repeatedly and I just ignored.

But it got to a stage that she didn't stop asking repeatedly.

"Would you stop it and walk fast!"I snapped at her.

As I scolded her, I felt liquid drop on me.

I looked up to the sky, and goodness gracious, the clouds were as dark as ever.

"Oh no."I pulled safiya, and we began running.

The droplets of water increased, and then it finally started raining... A heavy one... With my sister and I in it.

I looked for a shade where we could stand and wait for the rain to subside, but the market areas had none, so we walked to the roadside.

We stopped walking, and I tried stopping any vehicle that passed by.

None stopped, except one.

"Hop in."his british accent lingered into my ears.

Safiya and I got into the backseat with the food items.

"Shehu street please."I said politely.

He looked at me through the rear mirror with a thin smile on.

"Okay."he drove.

He turned on the heater, and it was then my body felt warm.

"Are you feeling much better?"he asked looking at me through the rear mirror again.

"Yes,"safiya answered. "Thank you so much Sir, you saved my sister's ass."she smiled at him and he just chuckled lightly.

"My pleasure little girl."he turned to look at safiya with a smile on.

"That gate."I pointed to our house.

The car came to a halt once we were in front of our gate.

Safiya ran out of the car first, then headed to the house.

"Thanks."I admired his dare devil cobra eyes but kept the conversation short.

"Don't mention."his accent was fluent.

I gave him a thin smile, and he returned it with a handsome one, then I walked to the house and heard his car zoom to where who knows.
