Chapter 1
The night was so dark and silent that not even a single soul could be heard or seen. The darkness of the night had engulfed everything that laid in front of me as well as inside me. A person would usually be afraid of the vast darkness that had been laid for them to venture through but neither could I bring myself to feel anything nor move. Suddenly coming to my senses I realized I had my phone with me. After flashing the torch of my phone around, I found the place creepier than before. It was disturbingly quiet and eerie without anything around. However, on a second glance, I could see trees, stones, and grasses all forming right before my eyes; as if the vastness had felt my discomfort and decided to give me something to look at. This terrified me and I could feel myself shaking from fear whatever that I was experiencing.
All of a sudden I was surrounded by tall trees on all sides, the wind was extremely cold which felt more like a blow of air. It was strong enough to push me back, making me stagger and in search of something to hold to balance myself, I felt a hand holding me up. I let out a scream and immediately jerked my hands off and moved forward. On looking back, I was greeted with the same empty vastness without a trace of another living being. The trees had disappeared as well leaving me frightened and nervous. I was clueless of my surroundings nor was I aware of my arriving here. Last thing I remembered was taking a cab home as I was extremely tired to drive back after the long day at the hospital. I gripped my phone firmly and started walking forward aimlessly. And to increase my anxiousness and horror, I could see the trees and the landscape forming, the void fabricating the convoluted movements to manufacture different pieces of a landscape.
The deeper I walked into the forest that was constantly being made and broken down I could feel someone’s piercing gaze upon the back of my head. I was terrified and the buzzing sound of the night resembling that of a manufacturing factory made me shiver involuntarily. The trees felt alive, breathing and ready to pounce upon me the second I stopped walking. I was trembling with fear and the dry air of the place made my eyes sting, tearing up and blocking me from seeing clearly. I felt a sudden movement behind me and a slight sound resonating the footsteps of a human being. Immediately, I found myself not being able to turn around to inspect the sound better. I couldn’t turn my neck which came off as being held in place by some strong force which left me shaken up and scared out of my wits. I closed my eyes and wished myself to wake up from this nightmare, prayed and begged God to let me leave.
My eyes were blinded by the strong white lights around me as soon as I opened my eyes. Only to find myself surrounded by white lights all around me and a bed dangling in the middle. On a closer look, I saw myself on the bed, lying as still as a dead man with my body parts separately arranged on the side. At this moment, I had stopped feeling anything, I was blank and surrounded by the vast whiteness that was squeezing the life out of me with every passing second. I was not terrified, nor was I worried, it almost felt natural to be in that state. As if someone was trying to create me, arrange my body parts in a way that would make me more human, more movable and a whole being. It felt like I was being created again as a perfect human being without any flaws and mistakes. I closed my eyes again to reminisce about the life I had lived so far.
As I opened my eyes I could see children playing around, a few adults walking around the room, formally dressed and talking on the phone. On seeing me open my eyes, two men and three women rushed over to me and asked me if I recognized them. Later, I was informed that the time had passed profusely while I kept on sleeping. The people around me introduced themselves as the descendants of the ones who took over my house after I had fallen asleep for almost a century. No one seemed to be aware of the reasons for this occurrence nor could anyone figure out the reasons. The most surprising phenomenon that had occurred during my slumber was the fact that I had not aged at all since the day I was found unconscious in the cab by my parents at the front door of our house.
