CH 1

In the kitchen with some painkillers in a glass of water, a headache was already starting to form. Feeling my eyelids begging for sleep, frankly, I wanted to take a nap. But if I did, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at all tonight and knowing Mom she would pull an all-nighter to make sure everything is ready and perfect for the big day. Time ticked on slowly as it finally hit 5 pm, and the Helpers came into the pack kitchen to start dinner.

“Hey,” Melonie greeted while pushing open the swing door.” Hey Mel. What have you been up to?” she jumped onto one of the barstools, “just seeing where I can help out, I’m starving,” she said. I laughed as I turned back to the soup, “Yeah by help you mean eat.” I smiled as she looked at me sheepishly knowing I was right. “Well sorry. You’ll have to wait with the others,” I said teasingly.

Hearing it before seeing it, Alan came bursting through the swing kitchen doors at full speed, nearly tripping over one of the Omegas - Nadia, and came to a full stop before me.

“Hey! Be careful, you’re going to knock someone over!” I told him. “Oops, sorry,” he said not batting a lash. I sighed, “What’s wrong.” He jumped up to the bar stool next to Mel and started spinning on it “Mom said you need to help me get ready for tomorrow”.

Right. Of course, I get to do all the parenting jobs, ‘Yippee’. Reluctantly agreeing, Alan cheered and started yapping to Mel about some crazy story.

We are part of the Scarlett Light Warriors Pack. My Father, the Alpha is a fair and just leader. He runs camps to teach wolves how to train and how to protect their Pack and he brings in Warriors from all around the country some even reaching to European and African Countries.

My older Brother, Steffan was the successor to the Pack and he would become Alpha when Dad was ready to step down and when he finally found his mate.

Mom and Dad met when she came over to do her training as a Healer when Grandpa was still Alpha. Mom always had wanted to be a healer and when she met Dad she was crushed. She knew she wouldn’t be able to be if she became Luna but she eventually caved and now she helps out at the Pack hospital from time to time.

I knew that because I wasn’t going to be Luna, I wanted to help the Pack as much as I could and I wanted to follow Mom. I started as an Intern at the Hospital nearly three years ago and my parents are so proud of me, I started unsupervised practice last year and I can officially say I am the youngest Nurse on Placement.

A loud siren started ringing, making me jump out of my daze, ii realised what it was - I froze. Turning off the stove and grabbing the two, I pulled them to the door. The door Alan came through just a few minutes before opened again and in came my mother, breathing hard as she ran through the door “Take Alan and Melonie to the safe room, I’ll go help your father.” She said.

Hesitating, I didn’t want to split up and leave her, but she yelled at me to go, and we dashed to the front door.

I knew exactly what to do and where to go but I also knew this was definitely not a drill. Mom would have been told before and they wouldn’t have placed one just before the big day. A piercing scream rang outside and not ten seconds later, the front door busted open and, in the doorway, a large man blocked the fading light of the sun setting. Brown short, trimmed hair, dark honey skin tone and blue eyes stared at me.

“Look what we have here,” he said sneeringly, sending a cold, unwanted shiver down my spine. He wore black and was loaded with all sorts of weapons.

Smirking, he took another step forward and asked, “Are we going to do this the hard way or the easy way, little girl?” I look behind the door, seeing it still open and unhinged. He grinned. “Fine, we’ll do this the hard way,” he said taking out a dagger.

I mentally smiled. It was made of silver. Silver doesn’t hurt me.

Walking my way again, he only walked a couple of steps before stopping, surprise and fear on his face as I stared fiercely at him.

I looked at the hall mirror beside me and grinned. My blue eyes shone brightly as if they were two pools of ocean frothing in the middle of the sea. My black hair had lifted off my shoulders and had a tinge of red. I could feel my fingers by my side beginning to tingle and the readiness in my stance gave me confidence. I looked back at the man to see him confused and angry. “You’re not a wolf.” He growled. I pulled a face, my eyes widening, and my jaw opened, “Shocker.” I said, mocking him.

All emotions clashed into one as he ran full speed at me. My eyes glinted. This will be fun.
