INTRODUCTION:

Christopher Tanya Kalumba did not know what to say when he was brought face to face with the Judge.

Panic seized him. Guilt wouldn't let him concentrate. A muscle in his jaw jerked. It is better that You dont waste the courts time said the Judge. Will you answer the questions?

I'm...sorry! Chris sniffed and wiped his misty eyes.

The Judge looked up sharply. She took out her pen and wrote again.

He couldn't concentrate everything was boiling inside him like the contents of a pot on fire

Will I ever regain my freedom? he wondered.

CHAPTER ONE.

Something was wrong. Kala sensed this on seeing her best friend strongly rooted in the same place.

"Let us get away from here!" She pleaded with him

Chris pushed her away. He could see the treasure glittering.

"We are rich. Kala,we are damn rich." He said excitedly

"You are sick Chris," Kala said firmly. Time to get out of here. She pushed him away from the entrance.

"Iam sorry," she said

"Dont apologise!" Kala, am staying. I will take just a few pearls, gold rings , one of the golden crowns and some jewelry.

Her expression almost stopped him. "Go on, get moving from here before you join me. He left her then although part of him kept pulling him back.

"Stop worrying,"he convinced himself. Come on go get the treasure.

"Of course!" Christopher's eyes gleamed when he finally touched the gold

Good God. It was too much. He raised his voice . " Thank you lord God for this opportunity. "

"Its the devil's trap Kala shouted from behind.

Chris , your making a very big mistake . She came and laid her hand on his shoulder. " I'm worried about you

My grandmother told me a story of a man who once took from here a few bangles and a golden ring for his fiance but was haunted for the rest if his life. Let it go

He didn't answer directly. Her story bothered him for a moment

" We've all heard stories that are a myth. Don't believe everything you hear Kala. Christopher told her

Kala looked at him crossing her arms, expecting him to change his mind but he stuffed the golden bracelets into his travel bag.

"I'm sorry Kala, I can't miss this chance. "

"Don't do this, Chris" Kala yelled. Her voice shaking with fright.

"What the hell, Kala? Let me go" I'm not going to stop no matter what you say. Kala ended the Conversation.

"I hate you!" She mumbled running out of the tunnel.

Rushing through the small path, she reached home panting like a racing dog.

"Mother, Mother," she called out

"Kala, is everything alright?" Her nanny called out from the kitchen

"Where is mother, aunt Bethy?"she manages to ask amidst tears

"Are you crying girl?

"Nanny, he, he...." she couldn't say the words.

"Hush girl, relax Kala. Stay focused my dear girl. Now what really happened?"

"I, I took him there!" Kala cried out.

I thought he was nice, that was until he decided to take the forbidden

I told him not to

I pleaded with him

He can't survive this, can he?

"Oh, my precious child, I cannot understand what your saying.

Tell me what happened. Who is he? What did he take?"

" Chris of course," Kala replied

He has picked the treasures from the Skim tunnel. Nanny, it's awful

He and I went there just to have a pic at the said golden vessels, and then and then he changed the whole plan.

Kala wept

Aunt Bethy sat next to Kala, trying to console her. Kala turned to her Nanny, her face full of worry and regret. The little girl then buried her face on Aunt Bethy's laps.

The Nanny put her arm around Kala.

She knew that the girl was right. If Chris grabbed any thing even as small as a pin from Skim tunnel, it would be disastrous.

Chris interrupted Bethy's thoughts by bumping into the room

"Kala!"

Kala did not respond. She was so disappointed in him that she could barely absorb what he was saying

"Chris. Did you steal the treasure?" Aunt Bethy asked

" Kala, you told Aunt Bethy!, I thought you were my best friend, "Chris said bitterly

" I am, Chris."

" No, you're not. You reported me. This was mean't to be our little secret. "

" Oh God, you really did take something from the Skim tunnel. Christopher , no one steals that treasure and remains free
