Chapter 1
They met in their every life however they never ended up together. It’s like they are always pulled towards each other as if fate has to bring them together but they always found every reason not to. As if they have the string of fate in their fingers that connecting them with each other. But no matter how much they’re supposed to be pulled towards each other, one of them will always be led astray. As if they are one but they are not supposed to be together.
First Life
-Caspian-
It was a day like no other. The rain is pouring as thunder continued to rumble loudly. Fear is something that is not familiar to Caspian as he is someone who was trained to always control his feelings and emotions and yet in this exact moment, he only feels numb. His feet kept moving toward the deepest part of the forest as he tries to guide the people with him to safety. However his mind is elsewhere.
‘I promised to get them to a safe place’ he whispered to himself as he tried not to look back at the burning mansion not far away from them.
“Caspian” a young lady not older than 7 years old called him.
He looked down at her, he tried to smile but he knows that the pain is evident in his eyes just by how she tried to console him by holding his hand. A little boy with an almost identical face to the girl held his other hand.
The children pulled him deeper in the woods as they tried to hide from the people that was looking for them. The people who burned the place they once called home.
--
“Amelia!” Caspian didn’t even bother to think that the people who were attacking the mansion would hear him. He needed to know where she is or whether she is safe or not.
He sauntered through the hallway towards her door even if there is a big chance that she would not be there anymore and has long been evacuated. Amelia is the first daughter of the Duke after all.
He can hear his heart thumping loudly as his vision begins to blurry once he opened Amelia’s door. Half of her room is covered in flames, her favorite books burning, her bed was burning and the smoke covered the whole room. Panting heavily he tried to focus looking for her body inside the room.
“Lady Amelia!” nothing. Not one movement, not one sound, all he can hear is the sound of the fire burning inside the room. At this moment almost half of the mansion is burning.
“Caspian!”
Caspian looked towards the end of the hallway where the library was located. He can see Amelia peeking out of it. He breathed a sigh of relief as he looked towards his back and around him if anyone heard her.
Amelia beckoned Caspian to come quickly as she held a handkerchief towards her nose.
“Are you alright?” he whispered as he held her whole body against him once the door was closed.
The library of the house is one of the most secured place in the mansion. Mainly because that library is not known to other people. You can consider it a private library and only the rarest of the rarest books are hidden there. Books that are supposed to be banned in the kingdom can only be found in that library. Only the family members know of that place and how to get there. All of the rooms of every family member are connected to that library. A series of tunnel connects the library towards the room of the members of the family. However there is a hidden door that is in the end of the hallway and it has never been used before until now besides no one can get in through that door unless they open it from the inside. The only way to go inside is through the doors of each family members room.
Amelia knows that she cannot go back the way she came from because the tunnel is probably no longer usable since her room is burning.
“Are you hurt? Let me see.” he quickly looked at her face looking for marks and proceeded to check her whole body. He didn’t even bother to look around to know if there is someone in the room with them. He found a small burn in her hands. His eyes found hers as he looked down at her.
“Uhm- It was when I opened the tunnel, the whole room was already burning and the tunnel is-”
“It’s alright.” he assured her as he looked at her hands. He pulled the handkerchief in his pocket and wrapped it around the burn.
“Uh-Uhm”
“Oh, Young Master Theodore and Lady Castiella” his eyes widened as he realized that the twins are there. Theodore and Castiella are Amelia’s 7 year old siblings. Along with them is the nanny of the twins and the oldest of the siblings Gideon.
“Y-you two, are you?-” Gideon looked towards them as if he’s putting the pieces together.
“Let’s talk about it some other time brother.”
“Oh-- so that’s why the other day--”
“Gideon please-”
“Alright, alright Amelia, so that’s why he didn’t join the family knights and just proceeded to be your persona-” a smirk evident in Gideons’ face.
“Gideon.” Amelia stared at his older brother with a deadpanned look in her eyes. The situation is serious but his brother still could not keep himself from joking. Gideon is always like that but when things are serious he would almost always do his best. The keyword is almost since clearly this is one of the times where he can’t be serious even if the situation is serious.
All of the children of the Romanov family knew where the exit is. They were supposed to wait for their parents to come but the door of the tunnel where they are supposed to come from is producing a lot of smoke which only means that they cannot come from that side.
“D-did you see mother and father Caspian?” Theodore asked as he tried to look like he’s not panicking at the situation. The children of the Duke’s family has always been trained to keep a straight face since they are what you consider as public people. People always looks at them, they are almost as famous as the Royal Family itself, maybe even more.
Just as how they are trained to keep a straight face anytime they are also trained for these kind of situations. There would always be threats in their lives hence all of the family members are trained to fight. Amelia was trained to fight as young as five years old. Castiella has also been receiving the same training since she turned five.
“No, I sneaked towards the kitchen when I heard that they are still looking for all of you. They were yelling pretty loudly”
“It’s the royal family, wasn’t it?” the venom in Gideon’s voice can heard even as he whispered.
“Yes, they were the knights of the royal family.”
Muffled voices can be heard at the other side of the wall. They all stopped talking and proceeded to move towards the tunnel that was supposed to be their exit out of the mansion as quietly as they can though the brick wall is thick enough for people to hear them from the inside.
“Let’s go.” Gideon beckoned them towards the tunnel.
