The battle of love

Season 1 episode 1

Jacinta POV

I was finally leaving the slumps and hopefully for good too. I wasn't moving to some shabby place or a rented apartment or something, I was moving to our own mansion in our very own name. it was a dream come true, a miracle in fact.

"Dad!"i yelled running into the house like someone being chased by a mad dog. "yes baby girl." he answered me raising his head from the newspaper he was reading to look towards my direction.

......Dad was the kind who always read newspapers not necessarily for the news but to look for job openings he could apply for.......

"Dad look." i said rushing towards him happily to show him the pamphlet i had picked up earlier. "what is this?" he asked seeming uninterested. "just read it." i replied pouting. he sighed dropped his newspaper down and took the pamphlet from me."lottery!" my dad exclaimed. "yes this could be our only chance to get rich." I explained pleadingly.

...Although they were graduates,My parents were nothing near rich at all. My mom sold boli (roasted plantain) in the local market and my dad was a labourer who molded and carried blocks at building sites. we lived in a rural part of lagos, the slumps a place popularly known as mushin. To top that, we could barely feed as we fed from hand to mouth. It seemed like God had put off his torch and left us in abject darkness to scale through on our own. Today when I saw this lottery pamphlet I felt deep inside that this was exactly what we needed...

"honey, all these lotteries are just scam they put all this juicy prize money to lure people who are desperate and poor to apply with their little money for no Reason. just look now they are asking for the sum of five thousand naira, do u know how many people will pay for this? probably a billion, I don't know, they get their money back and give it to one person that is after rigging it. baby we can barely feed I can not contribute my meagre money which I made from working my ass off day and night to make some lazy illiterate rich. Am sorry." my dad explained to me calmly. its not like I didn't understand all these but something in me just kept pushing me that this could be it, our breakthrough."Dad what of its us,maybe we are the people to win this time. you know I have never asked u for something like this before. I just feel like this is it, our chance to make it, please." I pleaded. "hmmmm....let me think about it." my dad said. "uh! thank u daddy I love u so very much. But just hurry up cos its ending soon." I left and hurried to mom's boli stand. I knew that once my dad said he would think about something it only meant let me discuss it with your mother so I needed to convince my mom so she can in turn convince my dad.

Later that night....

Mum had come back from the market and I have no doubt that I did a good job convincing her to side me even though it was nothing near easy.

My mom and dad had retired to their bed at the other end of our one room apartment, I knew it was time to discuss. I lay on my bed pretending to be asleep while I listened to their conversation. Dad explained everything to mom while she listened with rapt attention. "hmmm.... honey in my honest opinion I think you should give our daughter the benefit of the doubt in this case and trust her on this. We don't want her blaming us for our misfortune if we don't do this besides she has never asked for something like this before." my mom explained. "honey but five thousand naira is not so small that we can throw it away." Dad reasoned. "yes but is it too much for your daughter's happiness and peace of mind? Besides, you are not throwing it away you are using it to make your only child happy." mom countered. They discussed throughout the night and finally came to a decision, to make their only child, me, happy.

The rest u know is history, because as you know we won the lottery.

I was so happy but I couldn't help but think about all my friends here and the memories I made here. I had lived my entire life in this slump and now I had to live. It was a happy-sad moment for me.

Oops my bad I didn't introduce my self. I am Jacinta Irekefe Williams from the south south region of Africa, Warri to be precise and this is my life and love story.
