New beginnings
I sigh as I set the last of my boxes on my bedroom floor. My mom, brother, and I have just moved from Santa Barbara, California, to the beautiful city of Aspen, Colorado. A little about me and my family first before I go any further, my brother and I are identical twins. We share the same strawberry blonde hair, green eyes, and smile. We both have braces and glasses, our only differences are our builds and heights. He’s very muscular and stands at 6’2, whereas I am fit and stand at 5’4. As to why we decided to move, we just thought it would be best to move somewhere completely new where no one knew us so it would be easier to move on from our fathers passing. My father was in a horrific accident just before my brother and I graduated from our junior year in high school, and to say it was hard on us would be an understatement. Although we did pass our exams, it was extremely difficult for us to concentrate as people would continuously tell us their condolences and how sorry they were. Back to now, we just completed the 15 hour drive with all of us alternating between sleeping and driving so now we’re moving our stuff in as we had already picked out our rooms. It was Sunday today and tomorrow would be our first day at our new school which we were both very excited about since we’re both extroverts and love meeting new people. I had just finished unpacking my last clothing box and moving onto making my bed as I heard my mom calling up to us from downstairs. “Alora Mae, Sawyer Dean! Dinners ready!” My mom always calls us by our first and middle names which I always found odd but never questioned it. I finished making my bed and made my way downstairs as my brother followed right behind me. We sat at our new dining table and watched as she set down our favorite meal, steak and sweet potatoes. “Thanks for making our favorite mom!” My brother and I said simultaneously and giggled afterwards. My mother shook her head while laughing before we all ate in silence. It was pretty late as we finished our food, around 11:00 at night so we decided to get ready for bed so we would be up for school tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning.
