Chapter 1 The house that was never complete.
Long time ago their was a man named kibante in a small village called kakolo. He had a girlfriend who was living with her parents. Although kibante was ayouth with no parents and inheritance whatsoever he loved his girlfriend and his girlfriend loved him back.
One day on their usual meetings under the tree his girlfriend told him that she wanted to leave her parents home and move and live with kibante. So kibante went to his uncle's abode where he was staying temporary and thought long and in his mind he decided he would build a hat so that his girlfriend baluka could come and live together. His uncle told him to work on his farm for several seasons before he would give him apiece of land on which kibante could settle to which kibante agreed. And by the end of that time(seasons) kibante had baluka as his wife but still no home. So as the day drew nearer on which his uncle had promised to give him land. Kibante and his wife were excited that at last they would own their own abode and stop making love in the bushes.
Kibante finally begun building his hat on the land he was given. First he went and collected poles in the near by mystecal forest because most people believed it was cursed and when building most would go to neighborhood villages for poles. After that kibante collected other materials for building like the red earth soil and grass. Papyrus reeds and other items where all assembled. Kibante begun building with the help of one of his cousins. He made holes in the ground and started planting the poles. He worked for 5 days and now the work for roofing was next. But something seemed quite odd with the shape of structure. It was not straight it was some how leaning as if it was going to fall on one side. So he mumured to himself what could be the problem. He called for assistance but all in vain cause when at a distance the structure seemed normal but at close range it was leaning. Kibante wonderd but his fellow villagers kept reminding him why he had taken the poles from the cursed forest of which he ignored. So time went by minus any progress on the building.
One day he went to visit his wife baluka. On meeting her, he explained his dilemma to her. But baluka thought he was not telling the truth and called him lazy because it was over a month since he had begun building and most people took one week to finish their hats and another waiting for it to dry after plastering it with the red earth and cow dung for the floor. So kibante invited his wife to come and see for herself for which she obliged. As they were approaching the structure kibante wife was excited as it looked normal but once they entered she became sad as the structure was not straight. So kibante told her to look for the fault. She searched all corners of the structure and the support beams but couldn't see any fault. But as she was turning to leave and go outside baluka saw a bent pole near the entrance and shouted kibante come and see. I have solved your problem. Kibante ran inside and indeed he could see the bending pole, it was not straight and was the one holding the biggest beam. So kibante told his wife to go back and he would solve the problem. The next morning kibante went into the same evil forest to collect straight poles. As he walked the small pathway to the forest something kept reminding him(intuition) not to go to that particular forest of which he ignored.
Finally kibante arrived in the evil forest for the second time and headed straight to deep end where the thick and strong trees were. So finally he got his axe and started cutting one of the big trees but as he was cutting he heard avoice from one of the tree next to the one he was cutting. It was crying saying kibante stop killing my mother at least come and cut me instead. Kibante was lost for words and thought, he wondered how on earth atree would talk but instead of running away kibante stopped cutting that tree and went to the next which was crying because his desire to complete his hat was so strong each time he thought of baluka. As he started cutting the next tree, he heard still a crying voice and it were another tree nearby kibante "stop killing my mother at least come and cut me instead". Kibante did the same thing he went over to the next. And the cycle went on till it was almost dawn. Kibante came to his senses and realized maybe the forest was curesd as most people had said. So he started running trebling with fear he ran. As he was mashing through the thick low grasses and thickets he fell.
On the ground he saw a snake with seven heads. One head asked my do want to kill my brother
