Saying goodbye

Laying in bed as my mum tucked the duvet in on both sides while she began her story. She sat on the end of my bed as I curled up and closed my eyes.

"Walking bear foot in the lush green grass there was a sence of peace in the air. Looking up into the clear blue sky you can see pegasus flying around. Walking in further the sound of water rushing draws your attention to the cascading waterfall. Landing in a cyan tinted pond clear enough you can see the rainbow fish swimming around looking fully content with themselves. Fluffy bunnies hopped around munching on strands of grass as they go..." With that I drifted into a deep slumber with a blissful dream following.

Huddling into the school bathroom with all my girlfriends trying to skip P.E. we had to destract ourselves from the smell. I began to read some of the graffiti that had been scribbled onto the walls by previous students. Then it hit me. I should tell the story. Only this time it will keep us entriged. "Wolves howling. Clawing away at the overgrown leaves -wonder -looking for some pray. It's been years alone stuck on the island cast out by the ancestor's. The only for of entertainment they have is watching the vampires grow weak and being ripped limb from limb by the alpha wolf... " We were so focused on what was about to happen next the door squeeking open made us all scream. "Girls out! Get to class" we were busted.

Begging me to finish the story I promised I would at our next sleepover. Only problem was we never spoke to each other again. It's funny how a small argument can lead to a whole new me.

Aged 17

We got out the taxi and made our way to the COVID free partly quick airport. Dragging my heavy suitcase behind me trying not to think about what will have to come next.

People rushing in and out of doors trying the reach their destination on time. They were hot queuing for hours, children crying unuse to the mayhem we call the airport. My mum drags me to one side with tears pricked in her eyes. Here it is what will come next. "Sweetie, please don't go. I hate the idea of you going all the way to India all by yourself. You are still so young please give it some time."

As long as I can remember I have always wanted to help people. People that don't get the same equality as we do. So when I got an opportunity to go to India and help with a charity building houses and building food, water supply. I was thrilled with excitement. My volunteering paid off and I could finally do some good.

Well that is what I though.

"Mum you know I need to do this. I need to help them. I want to help them. Now let's hug so I don't miss my flight". She pulled me in like it was the last hug she would ever get. Squeezing the life out of me. Tighter.

"Mum. I.. I can't ..b-breath"

She chuckled lightly before releasing me. "Sorry darling, it's just I love you so much and the thought of you so far away. I just. I can't." She was a full waterfall by now Tier's streaming down her face. I had her a tissue I packed just for her.

"Flight 58BF please go to terminal 4. I repeat Flight 58 BF go to terminal 4.". With that I get my suitcase and get ready to leave.

The airhostess takes my passport and checks the photo. The curly brown hair, the green blue eyes, my gender, my height, asking my questions only I will know. After all of them matching up she handed me my passport back and I went through to the terminal. I turned around to say goodbye to my mum and she was already stood there waving. I waved back and carried on walking. I turn back one last time before stepping into the plane and my mum is trying to force a smile and wave me off but she has so much sadness and pain within her eyes. I smile and walk away before the tiers can come out of my eyes.
