Chapter 1

Ch. 1

M.J. POV

Everyone goes through some hardships in their life. Some walk right through them like a small bump on their pathway to better things. Some are more like hills that take a little more effort to overcome. While others see nothing but darkness for the mountain that looms ahead and blocks out the light that guides their way.

Imagine having to force a smile to your face everyday because you have know idea when the next shit show in your life is going to happen, that’s what I do on a daily basis. Though today for the first time in a while, my smile was genuine. I woke up with the sun shining and a smile so wide I believed it would become a permanent fixture on my face. Yesterday as I was leaving the tv station that I work for told me to come an hour before my shift, a staff meeting they said for some news they just received. I was hoping for a promotion to full time new producer. I needed something good in my life, due to all the mess my family was making and the stress it was putting me under.

Six months ago I lost one of my three younger siblings. My sister Alexis had a car accident, she was a year younger than me. We had a like to dislike relationship throughout the years of our growth. A few months before her death, she reached out to me and wanted us to sit down and talk. I didn’t want to at first, but eventually I came around and we started talking.

Our relationship blossomed and we were once again like the best of friends. I’m grateful to her for reaching out, especially since I have a very strained relationship with our family. With exception to our little brother Lucas and now Alexis, I’m pretty much estranged from our family unless they need me for something.

So aside from her accident and my family’s constant hounding for me to take care of everything for her and them. Even though she was married, I’ve been under a lot of stress and needed some good news in my life. Little did I know the hell my day was about to turn into.
