01 Curtains

What is pain, how do you describe it?

He sat on the cold tile floor by the living room window entangled in the flowing drapery. Turquoise and gold, not the best of combinations for window palls but she never did budge on her home making choices; especially when she was the one going to sew them herself. Her touch was all over the place, driving him to brink of insanity and pulling him back into the most tender of hugs before shoving him once more into uncoming traffic.

The light filtering through the windows gave the sheer turquoise fabrics an unearthly feel. It was quite the scene, an empty room bathed in silver blue-green hues except for the lone figure sitting cross legged staring at the ceiling as the trinkets in bis hair reflected the moonlight. It felt like the beginning of a séance,

"Leave me alone Osazee," the hoarse voice echoed just before one of the large wooden doors creaked open. The moon light was soon replaced by the ambers of the incadecent bulbs of the wall sconces all around the room. A tall female stood arms folded by the light switch with a frown on her face, "I told you to leave me alone Osazee."

"I heard but you're neck deep in alcohol and also stupid, I don't feel inclined to honor your request," she rolled her heyes and walked towards the sitting creature by the window.

"All the more reason I should be left alone," he sighed, "but you never listen, you're as hard headed as her," a light chuckle escaped his lips, It didn't last long but it was good enough for the female to smile back at him, "I heard her speak to me today you know? she called me."

A frown flashed across her features but he didn't notice, he never noticed when he was in this state, "what did she say?" She asked as she pulled him to his feet.

He giggled and placed an arm on her neck, "it's a secret but I'll tell you," he put a finger to her lips in a hushing pattern, "she loves us, she always will," he grinned and fist bumped her, "it's great shey?"

Osazee forced a smile a nodded, "yes it is, now it's time for bed old papa,"

"I'm not that old, I'm just..." He got caught off by a hic up and smiled at the woman supporting him,"Osazee do we really have to leave?"

"Yes we do,"

"But what of when she comes back and we're not here to welcome her at the door?" He frowned and tried to turn back, "what if she thinks we no longer love her and she goes back?" His hands emancipated fingers pulled at the arm around his torso, "Osazee what if she thinks I hate her," she could feel his chest rise and fall in quicker bursts. He forced himself out of her hold and started to run his fingers through his locs, "I need to look presentable, she might soon come," he whipped his head to look at her, "Osazee you can't be dressed in your night clothes."

She bit her lip and suppressed a groan, "that's what I needed you to follow me inside for, I need your help in picking out something to wear. You can help me right?"

He turned to look at her, "Oh," he clapped, "of course, I can help you do that," he turned to look at the door on the other side of the empty room then sighed, " let's go so we can come back soon to wait," he marched with purpose toward the door leaving the slightly frustrated female behind.

Osazee sighed and ran her hands through her hair, "God give me strength," she began following him after making sure to lock the door behind her and stash the keys in her pocket. She heard the sound of a door closing as she neared the staircase he was hurriedly climbing. She'd have to have another talk with mama Ades before she left for the office the next day.

"Osazee," he called as he watched her from the floor above.

"Yes?"

"Aren't you going to sleep, you know late nights are bad for a pregnant woman's health," he had a slight frown on his face, she hated seeing the worry lines that disturbed his beautiful espresso skin on his forehead, a coffee blend she much prefered to her straight black. She was the one who frowned, not him. She wanted to keep it that way.

"I'm sorry I just needed to walk a little my legs were cramping up."

"Do you need help," he said as he made to come back down the stairs as best he could but she signaled him to stay where he was, "I could carry you up?"

She chuckled and shook her head, "I can manage, let's just go to bed."

He nodded and waited for her to climb up the stairs.

"Go take a bath, your smell is irritating me and the baby," she said as they got to the bedroom door.

He chuckled as he opened it for her and nodded, "I promise to do that before I lay down,"

"Good, I expect you to be in bed in the next ten minutes, right?"

"Sir, yes sir," he did a mock salute as best as he could with the slight sway in his movements.

He did his best to help her into bed before making his way to the bathroom to wash the smell away after turning the bedroom lights off.

Osazee sighed as she lay on the bed trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in, she reached to the bedside table and took the phone on it, "no call logs," she sighed and kept it back on the table, "it won't be long, well soon be free."

She smiled as she felt the beddings rise beside her in the darkned room. She settled into the clumsy arms trying to hug her. This was comfortable, very comfortable. As she slowly approached sleep she couldn't help but smile at the drapery across from her illuminated by the moonlight. It was a simple silver sheer piece with black opaque ones to the side.

She felt him nuzzle her neck, "thank you Osazee," he whispered, " I love you so much and I'll do better."

"We love you too Oduwa, both of us." She new something was wrong with the statement but she couldn't tell him yet.

She heard his soft snores and smiled, she couldn't wait for tomorrow, it would finally be time.
