Prologue; My Own
The tower was not quite what he had expected. It was different. He had expected the moon goddess to be a creature of the light. To be a woman who lived in a white palace, who oozed beauty and light, but the tower was nothing but dark.
Alpha Killian could barely see the path he was taking, but he had been told to take it. If he wanted to find his mate and bring an heir to his pack, someone who will become alpha after him, he needed to do this. No matter how much it scared him.
"Alpha." The feminine voice spoke.
He turned around, trying to find the direction the voice had come from, but it was next to impossible. It felt like the voice had come from everywhere, but was still low, and musical.
"Tis I, moon goddess." he said, his voice loud, and all he heard in response was his own voice echoing back to him.
Suddenly, a candle lit up in a distance before him, penetrating the darkness. His eyes widened a little, and he took one step towards the candle.
"Come to me, " She urged when he stopped.
Her voice was beautiful, but something about him sent waves of chill down his spine. He swallowed. He was a man. A werewolf. An alpha. But she was the moon goddess, and whatever confidence he had scrapped up fell away again.
He took the first few steps towards her, then continued, until he was close enough to feel the heat of the candle on the left side of his face.
The candle illuminated only her eyes. Turquoise blue, with specks of green towards the ends. It caused his breath to hitch again, and he looked to his feet.
"Why have you come?" Her voice told him in fact that she knew, but wanted to hear him say it.
"I..I have been mateless for ten years ever since I came of age. My pack needs an heir and..."
A small gust of wind caused him to stop, and she turned away, her candlelight leaving with her. "You do not have a mate." she said, and her eyes slowly lifted to him.
"Why?" his voice was low, respectful. She was the moon goddess after all.
Slowly, she drifted to him, and put a long finger under his chin, raising his head to meet hers.
"Because you are my own."
