Sudden Call
My phone suddenly rings.
"Hello," I say to whoever is calling me from the other line.
"Hi, this is Mandy from Fruitful Foods Market calling for an interview. We looked over your application and we were wondering if we could set up a date."
"Yeah that would be great, I'm free this Friday any time after 2:30 P.M."
"Great, how does 4:30 sound?"
"That works"
"Great, come to the service desk and ask for Lisa, Good luck!"
"Thank you, have a great day."
Thank you, bye bye."
"Bye."
For a little backstory, my name is Cole. I work to make my school's newspaper and I have an idea for the years biggest paper, The Thanksgiving Read. I live in Seattle, so not much goes on, except for occasional rumors that keep peoples minds busy. I needed a job that was within walking distance since Seattle is always doomed with rain and cold weather. But I also needed a big story for the paper.
Seattle's biggest rumor, the Fruitful Foods Market. People claim that the rooms in the back of the store have a secret, but I think it's a load of bullshit.
This could go one of three ways, either I get the job and I find out there is no secret being held at the market, I get the job and there is some secret at the market, or I don't get the job, which would be a bummer. Wether there is a big secret or not, proving or debunking the myth would be huge news with my school paper, and maybe even the city.
-------Time Skip to Friday 3:30 P.M.-------
Phone rings.
"Hello this Lisa from Fruitful Foods Market. I was wondering if you were still coming in for your interview scheduled in an hour."
Hello Lisa, I will still be coming to the interview."
"Great. The interview will be simple. We will go over your application, rules, and how to not mess the job up."
"Great, I will see you then."
"You too, I'll see you shortly."
'Mess the job up,' I think to myself, 'What kind of employer threatens you with messing your job up before you even get the job.'
While this thought lingers in my head, I get ready for my interview and make my way there.
-------Front Desk-------
"Hello, is Lisa here?"
"Yes, let me go get her."
After about 2 minutes a tall woman comes out.
"Hello, you're Cole?"
"Yes. Lisa?"
"Yes," she says with a smile.
The interview went well. Basic questions, simple rules.
"We wan to provide an environment that is good for the worker, I'd like to get you a tour of the back."
'Holy shit. This is my chance,' I think to myself.
"Yeah, that would be great."
To my surprise, the back looks normal. Bland white walls, storage, shipments.
"Now," Lisa says getting to a door in the very back, "This is a door you will never open. Under and circumstance. Open this door and that is instant termination. It is not a fire exit, it does not have any product for sale behind it. Nothing you need is behind it, you will never need to open this."
"Got it," you say in a questioning tone.
"Well great, we will call you soon and tell you if you got the job."
Thanks," you say with a half smile on your face.
While walking home I think about what she said. Why can't I open a door? What's the big secret all abo... The big secret. There has to be some thing behind that door.
