Chapter One
What a day!
It’s 6pm. You finished a bit later than your usual and just got home from a day full of meetings, but that part is normal.
Do I really have to go to this thing?
You are reading the invitation to the work event you have to attend, but in no mood to go. So, you decide to call Juliet, maybe she can come up with a better excuse and something better to do.
“Hi! Are you already at the party?”
“No, actually hoping you have better plans for us to do. Please tell me you do!”
“Sorry honey! I’m staying in tonight, super lazy. Why don’t you want to go? You don’t know who you might meet there.”
“I know, but I’m so tired, and I’m sure it’ll be boring as usual. Come with me!”
“Really? You just said it’ll be boring!”
“Yes, but with you there, it’ll be less boring.”
She stays quiet for a moment, maybe weighting her options, when she finally speaks.
“Fine! Pick me up in an hour.”
“Yay! You are the best. Be there soon.”
“Of course I am. See you soon.”
You both hang up and you start getting ready.
Hum… I think this could work.
You go through your walk-in closet and pick up a light white blouse with straps, and a pair of high-waist light pink clochard pants, hoping it still fits. You apply some light makeup, high heel sandals, let your blonde hair down and leave the apartment. It takes you 20min to get to Juliet’s apartment building, and when you park your car, you get your phone and text her to come meet you.
Miranda: “I’m downstairs. Are you ready to go?”
Juliet: “Coming!”
You both make your way to the party, and straight to the bar!
“Seems fun, lot of cute guys to mingle with!” Juliet is already scanning the room like a predator.
“That’s what you are worried about?”
“That and what’s on the drink menu here.”
You laugh at her behavior, you already knew this was coming, and you two order some drinks to loosen up. When the bartender handles you your dry martini with two olives, you turn to look around.
“Where do I begin…” You also scan the room, but looking for potential work clients for your company, that’s the reason you are there.
“How about with the guy that hasn’t stop looking at you since we got here?” She points to a tall, brown hair and build guy, with a tattoo on his neck that probably goes down to his chest, and you try to be discreet looking in his direction.
“How do you know he has been looking at me?”
“I thought he was looking at me! I tried to get his attention showing him a bit of my cleavage but seems like his target is you.”
You smile when you notice him looking at you and think about how to approach him.
He is kind of cute!
“You know what? I’ll play hard to get. I’ll go chat with that group of ladies right next to him. Are you going to be okay by yourself?”
“I’m next to the bar! I’m good, honey.” She waves you away.
You move to the group and greet each one. You chat with a few and exchange business cards with others. When you are about to return to Juliet, someone holds your arm.
“Hi there! My name is John Jones.” He extends his hand for you to shake and you do.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Miranda Adams.”
“Nice to meet you too. May I get you a drink?” He asks with a smile.
“I’ll have another martini, please.” You smile too.
