POV Hayley:

August 1st

"That should be it," I smile at my dad before hugging him, "I'm going to miss you!"

He laughed and ruffled my hair, "I can stay if you want."

I'm guessing my face showed my disgust because he laughed again before hugging me and saying goodbye. I watched him leave and smiled to myself. It’s been hard for him since mom died; we haven't been apart for this long since.

I walked back into my dorm and looked around the plain space filled with moving boxes. Picking one up and placing it on my bed, opening it I start taking out my belongings.

Just as I finish unpacking I hear the door open behind me and I hear a loud gasp. Turning around I see a short girl with black hair with blonde tips in pigtails two strains on her round face, she’s wearing a white crop top with long bell sleeves and light bell bottom jeans. Her style is amazing.

She ran over to me and hugged me, “Omg you’re my roommate!” she stepped back then screamed and hugged me again. “Sorry, I'm a hugger! You made it so good in here!” She let go of me and looked around my side of the room.

“You’re fine!” I laughed and flopped onto my bed. “You’re Ashlynn right?”

She looked at me confused and nods, “Call me Ash. How’d you know my name?” I laughed

“They send out emails telling who our roommates are.”

“OH! I don't read my emails, oops”

I introduce myself and we talk, getting to know each other as I help her unpack her boxes. We flop down next to each other laughing at everything the other said.

“Get up and get dressed in something cute.”

I look at her confused, “Why, what’s going on?”

“It’s a college there are parties, and high school parties are nothing compared to the ones here.”

I stand up and looked in our shared closet grabbing the dress I just bought. Sleeve-less about mid-thigh high with black and blue plaid. I turn to show her and she nods.

“Go change, I have shoes that will go perfectly with that.”

We’ve been walking for about 15 minutes until we walk to a building where the music is already playing so loud that the place is shaking. We walked in talking and dancing to the music- that was until I lost her.

I looked for her and walked into the kitchen. Seeing only one person. A guy sitting on the counter drinking out of a glass. His brown eyes land on mine and just stare at me. I smiled and walked over to the fridge.

“Hi,” I say to him as I open the refrigerator door, “Not into parties?” turn around with a piece of cake and I smile at him.

“What gave it away?” he chuckled.

“Hm, I don’t know I guess I'm just that good,” I say hopping on the counter next to him.

“What about you, you look like a partier”

I shook my head, taking a bite of the vanilla cake, “Not really.” I look over at him and offer him some of the cake which he accepted.

“I’m Hayley by the way,” I look at him again, smiling.

“Chris,” he said, pushing his hair out of his face.

I smiled and hopped off the counter. “See you around, Chris.”

He hopped off the counter standing next to me, “Leaving?”

“Yup,” I looked over at the counter where his phone was and grabbed it, handing it to him so he could unlock it. Once I got it back I put my number in. “Bye, nice meeting you.” I walked out of the kitchen not saying another word.

I looked around the crowded room remembering that I need to find Ash so we can leave. I looked where there was a large group of people just talking and I found her in the center of it; She looked at me and smiled.

“Ready girlie?” she said walking to me.

“Yes ma’am,” I said as she hooked her arm around mine and we started walking outside. “Where have you been?”

“I was looking for my brother, but I couldn’t find him. Soooo, I came back and when I couldn’t find you I just started talking to random people,” she shrugged and smiled. “Where were you?”

I unhooked our arms so I could open the door, “I was talking to a guy,” she let a gasp and I smiled knowing she would have me tell the details. We just met but I feel like we’ve been friends forever. I could get used to this college thing.

I miss being able to say whatever is on my mind, without caring what others thought.
