"Run mate! I love you always and forever! Keep our pup safe and remember this isn’t the end.”
His words echo in my head as I make my way to safety as best I can. I’m leaving my mate and life as I’ve known behind. Our pack prepared for this, but that doesn’t make this any easier as I flee for my life from those who stand with the Rogue Alliance. I know it runs much deeper than that, but for now that’s the guise the supernatural community is under when it comes to blaming someone for the death and carnage. My birth pack was obliterated, and I had the fortune of fate meeting my Goddess given mate when I and a few other members were able to escape. Unfortunately, I lost my parents and brother and now the life with my mate has been cut short due to the war that doesn’t seem to have an end in sight.
I barely escape the attackers in time as I give him one last kiss and when I’m in the tree line I hear the pained howl coming from my mate as he takes his last breath. Moon Goddess, please keep me strong on this journey I must make alone. Clutching my chest as our bond breaks, I continue moving forward while my wolf whines in my head for the loss. We continue onward with a fire in our chest and a buzzing in our head.
I keep repeating to myself that I must be strong because the future of our kind and of my pup depend on it. The sun will shine again as long as I keep going and keep her safe while she grows inside my womb.
Tears stain my cheeks as I push through the dense forest as thick tree branches grab at my clothing tearing what little I have on to protect myself. I clutch my belly praying to the Moon Goddess that everything will be alright for me and my pup. I will never see my family again and my home has been destroyed, but I must keep moving for the greater good.
I know I will fall if I look back at the wreckage of homes burning, and I force myself to ignore the screams of those I couldn’t save. My heart is heavy for my pack members because I failed them. There is so much loss all at the hands of those who claim to follow the Rogue Alliance.
The werewolves that are greedy for power have destroyed not only my pack, but the lives of so many. They don’t believe in free love and equality of pack members. The Moon Goddess must be sad to see her children been willingly destroy each other for the promise of a power.
There is a prophecy that claims after much destruction a wolf born of white fur will bring peace for future generations and rebuild what was lost in the supernatural world. That prophecy is all I can cling to right now as I push forward to save myself and my pup, but no one has seen a white wolf in decades and this prophecy is as old as time. Could the daughter growing inside of me be the one to bring redemption to us?
I’m leaving the dreamy wonderland full of snowfall and beautiful mountains because somehow, we were found. It was secluded and located further up north than the most Northern region of werewolf packs, minus my original, but now blood stains the ground with bodies of men, women, and pups. I must run south and away from the ruins of my fallen pack and for the potential to meet more werewolves that can help me.
I have made some distance and have run as far as I can to safety but now, I must take a break. The snow has now changed to an icy hard rain falling from the night sky. I assume the Goddess is crying heavily for her children but knows she cannot intervene regardless of the circumstance. I refuse to believe she is ignoring us although I’ve never met her.
It has been days since I’ve been in the wilderness, and I’ve made it far enough into civilization to hitch a ride on a train that is heading west. I’ll take that as long as I can for some rest and depending on the cargo, I may be able to find something edible. I haven’t seen a single rabbit or deer to hunt in wolf form. Onyx and I are starving, and my energy level is drained. The pup inside of me is strong as I feel the flutter of her movements which continues to give me hope.
I hear the conductor announce that a check in station is coming up and for the passengers to take their seats having their travel cards ready. I don’t know if there are werewolves on the train, but if there are that means warriors will be nearby to conduct a sweep through for security. I’ll have to leave this cozy space either way for I cannot get caught and wind up in the hands of the enemy. I pray to the Goddess for strength as I take a deep breath and jump out of the cargo box landing on the hard ground. I’m already missing the warmth of the freight box as soon as I collide with the solid earth.
The burning pain lets me know that I fractured my wrist with the impact but luckily there is a tree line I can go into to stay hidden for now. The light rainfall will cover my tracks as I tread into the trees since covering my scent is not an option right now.
My feet hurt and I feel the blisters that have formed from my travels, yet I continue my way through the icy mud and brush until I cannot run anymore. Every muscle in my body is on fire and my lungs feel so heavy that I am suffocating from the exhaustion. I suddenly become dizzy, and everything begins to blur until I black out from the pain and hunger, crashing onto the cold, hard ground while the sound of twigs breaking nearby echo in my ears.
I am unsure how long I’ve been asleep, but I wake up to voices and an enclosed environment. I don’t know how far I’ve made it, but I pray I didn’t fail to escape those meant to destroy us and that I’m in a friendly pack that follows the Goddess faithfully.
The scent of burning pinewood fills my nose and warming the space I am in. I try to control my breathing as I think about what I should do because I’m unable to escape this place. I am anxious knowing I am now in captivity and keep my eyes shut trying not to stir hoping that maybe they will leave if they think I am still asleep. Watching for patterns in check ins is my best measure to plan an escape.
I think I heard someone say Alpha to one of the men in the room. Please Goddess do not let me be captive of the Rogue Alliance followers. My pup and I must be okay and carry out what you intend us to.
I gasped too loudly blowing my covering and letting them know I’m no longer sleeping.
“Alpha, she is awake!”
Please Moon Goddess be on my side I mumble while I slowly open my eyes and am blinded by the initial shock of the light until I can adjust to it and see clearly. Three attractive werewolves are surrounding me and have high ranking auras.
I’m not chained in a dungeon as expected, but I am cuffed to a soft bed by one of my arms. At least it isn’t silver otherwise my left wrist would be in so much pain from the contact. I have been changed and dressed in clean clothes and there is a glass of water and a biscuit on the bedside table.
One wolf introduces himself as Beta James and has short blonde hair and brown eyes standing at six feet tall. He says the cuffs will be removed if I promise not to run away, and he reassures me that him and the other two men just want to speak to me. He emphasizes that they mean no harm.
Despite the excruciating pain I felt when my mate died causing our bond to break and snapping my wrist when jumping off the train, she left me on my own to heal. My wolf Onyx is protecting our pup so she wouldn’t heal me even though I need it. I would be mad, but she is protecting our pup who is more important than me. Onyx tells me to trust these men, so I nod my head yes as an indication that I will comply and not attempt to escape.
A tall, chiseled man with aqua blue eyes and jet-black hair looks at me with curious and hopeful eyes. I know for certain he is the Alpha, but he isn’t being harsh to me even though I am a trespasser in his pack lands. He takes the cuffs off allowing me to sit up and take in my surroundings. He backs away to give me space and I can feel his wolf trying to connect with mine although she pushes him away causes him to raise an eyebrow at me.
I sit up slowly and grab my forming belly as I look around the room. There is one entry and exit and no windows, but a stove with a vent to the outside has a small fire to keep the space warm. I’m on a double bed and there is a small dresser in the room as well. It is a modest space, but I’m not complaining because it is much more comfortable than how I’ve been sleeping before arriving here. I look back to the bedside table and grab the water and biscuit, downing it in one gulp and swallow. It is nowhere close to satiating my hunger, but it is a start.
“Where am I?” My voice is hoarse from running and the cold.
A handsome wolf with dark brown hair and eyes and almost as tall as the black-haired man hands me a cup of hot tea. I sniff it cautiously while he smiles and introduces himself as Gamma Richard. He doesn’t take offense to my precautions and tells me I am at Pinewood Pack in the West Region.
I am relieved to hear that my train ride got me farther away than I thought.
All three of them stare at me as I shamelessly cry. I couldn’t control it. The Beta mentions the mark on my neck that is beginning to slowly fade, and the distinctive design it once had on my skin. A crescent moon with two stars.
After a few moments of silence, the Alpha speaks up to me.“What is your name? I will let you and your pup stay in my pack. But what I would really like to ask is if you would be willing to make a deal."
