Smile At Despair In The Name Of Hope

Summary

This AU I do not take credit for. Kasuna Kotohuna created this awesome au and allowed me to write this story based off it. After class 79 had learned of Junko's plans, they were once again whisked away to this time watch both what might of happened in an alternate universe, and what happens in there own future so they might be able to prevent it. This is an unoficial sequel to Kasuna Kotonoha's story on archive of our own: Hope is our 4 letter word, so you should probably read that first

Prologue

Class 79 had just recovered from the ordeal they had witnessed 3 days ago, but had no idea what was about to happen would be much worse. Shuichi was shaking and found himself constantly surrounded by Kaede, Kokichi, Kaito, and Maki, which made it hard to concentrate. Everyone was shocked at what they had witnessed, and Tsumugi was among the worst, though Himiko and Gonta attempted to comfort her. Shuichi himself was very shell-shocked, having had to witness his own death, but he wondered why he had been chosen out of all of his classmates. Surely if Junko was looking for a leader, Kaede or Kaito would have been a better choice right? He was relieved he was the one chosen though, as under no circumstances would he want any of his friend to die. He just couldn't believe he was that important to the class, it seemed impossible for him to understand. Tsumugi was as purplexed. She had worked with the mastermind? That seemed like a foreign concept to her. Tsumugi cared about all of her friends, and wouldn't want to hurt any of them. Yes the future her said she had been lied to, but that was no reason to agree to kill Shuichi. All 16 classmates tried to get over what they had seen, but were worried and frightened when they were again, brought into a large room with a screen, making everyone tense. Shuichi clutched his hat to his chest and Kaito found himself standing up and shouting, "What is the meaning of this?!" Class 79 turned to see a girl who seemed to be about their age smiling at them sadly. "I'm am sorry for what you are about to see, but as you all ready know there is a dark future looming above your class, and I want to stop you from going through that." The group looked at each other. All of them knew that their future wouldn't be the best if they didn't fix it, though if Junko even tried what she did in the future, she would majorly regret it. Shuichi tried to get his thoughts together at the moment, no way did he want to watch this, but if it could prevent his friends from dying, he was determined to to it anyways. "I think we should watch this, if we want to prevent the future from happening. Kaede and Kokichi both frowned concerned at the earnest detective, neither of them wanted him to come to harm, but knew they wouldn't be able to talk him out of it. Kaito was also unsure, he had anger issues on a good day and he was pretty sure watching Maki roll or his side kick die would make him pummel the tv. Maki placed a hand on his shoulder, also glaring venomously at the tv. Everyone eventually agreed, despite their misgivings. The group sat down on the large couches in front of the tv. Shuichi was sandwiched between Kaede and Kokichi, who refused to let him out of their site. Kaito sat next to them with Maki on his other side, the assasin squeezing his hand as the boy glared at the screen. The girl explained to them they would watch an alternate universe and then watch their actual future. Before the 16 students had time to react, the video began rolling.
