"Stranger in the Dark"
You should have listened to your gut.
The shortcut through the empty streets seemed like a good idea at first, a quick way to get home. But now, surrounded by three men with malicious grins and dark intent, you regretted every step you took into the shadows.
"Where you going in such a hurry, sweetheart?" one of them taunted, stepping closer, his breath reeking of alcohol.
Your heart pounded, and you instinctively took a step back, only to bump into another man behind you. Trapped.
"I-I don't have anything," you stammered, hoping they'd just take your bag and leave.
The third man chuckled darkly. "We're not after your money, babe."
Panic shot through you like ice, and just as you were about to scream for help, a voice cut through the tension like a blade.
"I think she said she's not interested."
All heads snapped toward the entrance of the alley, and your breath caught in your throat. A figure stood under the flickering streetlight, dressed in dark jeans and a black hoodie, his hands casually stuffed into his pockets. You couldn't see his face clearly, but his stance radiated a quiet, dangerous confidence.
One of the goons laughed. "And who the hell are you?"
The stranger took a step forward, and for the first time, the light hit his face. Your eyes widened in shock. Jeon Jungkook.
You almost couldn't believe it. The global superstar, standing right here in the middle of your nightmare, eyes daprk with an intensity that sent chills down your spine.
He cocked his head, voice low and deadly. "I won't say it again. Leave her alone."
The leader of the group scoffed, cracking his knuckles. "Looks like we've got a hero here, boys." He lunged at Jungkook without warning.
In a blur of movement, Jungkook sidestepped easily, grabbing the man's arm and twisting it with precision. A pained cry echoed through the alley as the thug collapsed to his knees. The other two hesitated, but before they could react, Jungkook struck fast-one solid punch to the gut and a sharp kick sent the second man sprawling.
The last thug, clearly smarter than the others, held his hands up in surrender. "We-we didn't mean anything by it," he stammered before turning and running off, leaving his fallen friends behind.
Jungkook stood still for a moment, watching to make sure they were really gone. Then he turned to you, his gaze softer now, filled with concern. "Are you okay?"
You blinked, still trying to process everything. "I... yeah, I think so. I-"
Your legs felt weak, and before you could stumble, Jungkook was suddenly at your side, his strong hands gripping your arms gently. "Hey, it's alright," he murmured, steadying you.
You looked up into his face, and for the first time, you could see past the tough exterior-the slight crease of worry in his brow, the way his eyes searched yours for any sign of lingering fear.
"What... what are you doing here?" you asked, your voice shaky.
A small smile tugged at his lips. "I was just passing by. Lucky for you, I guess."
You let out a nervous laugh. "Yeah. Very lucky."
Jungkook shrugged off his hoodie and draped it over your shoulders. "You're shaking," he noted softly, his fingers brushing against your arms briefly. "Let me walk you home."
You hesitated for a moment before nodding. There was something reassuring about his presence, something that made you feel safe in a way you hadn't felt in a long time.
As you walked side by side down the now-quiet streets, you couldn't help but glance at him from the corner of your eye. He looked so normal, yet completely unreal at the same time.
"So..." you started hesitantly, "you fight like that often?"
Jungkook chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Let's just say I know how to handle myself." He glanced at you with a teasing smile. "You should be more careful, you know."
You sighed. "Yeah, I've learned my lesson."
Silence settled between you for a moment before you blurted, "I can't believe this is happening. I mean, I know who you are, obviously. But this? You saving me from thugs in a dark alley? Feels like a dream."
Jungkook's lips twitched in amusement. "Weird way to meet, huh?"
"Understatement of the year," you muttered.
He grinned. "Well, I'm just glad I was here."
As your apartment building came into view, you felt a pang of disappointment that the walk was almost over. You stopped at the entrance, turning to face him. "Thank you, Jungkook Oppa. Really."
He nodded, his expression sincere. "Anytime."
Before you could talk yourself out of it, you shrugged off his hoodie and handed it back to him. He took it, but not before his fingers brushed against yours, sending an unexpected jolt through you.
"I'll see you around?" you asked, hopeful but uncertain.
Jungkook smiled, slipping his hoodie back on. "Yeah. Take care, hey your name?."
You smile and said y/n.
After that jungkook left you there.
You watched as he turned and walked away into the night, the faintest smile on your lips. Maybe the world wasn't so scary after all-especially with strangers like him in it.
