Chapter 1 (In Awe)

Iman and Lila danced along with the crowd as Ace Turner worked the crowded stadium and the stage. He was singing one of his famous song Grenade and the crowd was going crazy.

🎵Black, black, black and blue

Beat me till I'm numb, tell the devil I said hey

When you get back to where your from.🎵🎼

(A/N: See Bruno Mars Grenade)

Ace came up to the edge of the stage and wined his hips. Iman and Lila was at the very front and he smiled to them, bending he reached out his hand and touched theirs. When he grazed Iman's hand she just about died. He was shorter and smaller than she imagined but he was oh so very handsome and he flashed them his famous devilish playful smile he always teased with.

As the concert was drawing to a close Ace addressed his fans. "Ladies and gentlemen as you guys know, I'm not only an artist, but also a music producer and writer. I'm currently looking for my next big star to manage. If you believe you have what it takes, hit me up with a demo recording of you singing a song. Who knows you could be Ace's Production next big star. Thank you guys, you've been a great audience, good night." Ace bowed to the crowd and waved them all bye as he exited the stage.

The next day Lila was already in Iman's ear bugging her. "Come on Iman don't be crazy and pass up this opportunity."

Iman shook her head. "Sis no, Ace Turner is strictly an R&B artist. My sound is way different than that. He'd probably pass my recording right by as soon as he heard it."

"Iman your sound maybe precisely what he wants to hear. Everybody in the industry is looking for a new sound now a days. Look at Lady Gaga or Billie Elish as an example. They don't sound like everyone else out there and they are widely successful. You can rap, you can sing, plus you play a mean ass flute and dance. Sis you got what it takes to make it big trust me."

"Yeah and that's exactly the problem Lila my ass is just that BIG." Iman rolled her eyes . "How many plus size bitches you see making it in the industry?" Iman held her ears to hear Lila's answer who could not think of one right away as she hesitated thinking. Iman just nodded knowingly removing her hand from her ear. "See I hear the sound of crickets because the fact of the matter is there are none." Iman raised her brows.

Lila smirked and began snapping her fingers remembering some ladies. "Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, Amber Riley, to name a few. Plus let's not forget the Queen of Soul, Miz. Aretha Franklin was a plus size beauty and the voice known as Pattie Labelle."

"Yeah no go sis, Jazmine Sullivan is now a skinny ish bitch, so is Jill Scott. Amber Riley is more of an actress than she is singer. Aretha and Pattie are legends girl, does not count. Being plus size in the music industry back then was easier and accepted because society did not place so much emphasis on what they deem the beauty standard should be. Yeah my big ass ain't putting myself out there just to be rejected, ain't no damn way." Iman said adamant.

"You never know unless you try. You think all these famous people had it easy getting noticed. I'm sure for some of them, many doors were closed, until one decided to open. Sometimes in life you have to deal with the rejection, until you are heard." Lila said as a matter of factly.

Iman twisted her lips really thinking about her best friend's words. Still she felt hesitant. "I don't know sis." She added skeptical.

"Just listen sis, do the recording, send it in to Ace's company. If you are chosen great, if you're not, still great because your talent will still be there. You never know what will happen unless you take that first step." Lila said encouragingly.

One Week Later:

Ace shook his head after listening to yet another unappealing recording. Nothing was sticking out or sounding unique to him, it all sounded the same. He sighed, at this rate he may never find his next artist. He still had ten more recordings left to listen to, hopefully just one would work or he'd have to try again with other recordings. He pressed the next demo and began listening. Hearing the sound made him sit up straight and pay attention to voice coming through his headphones. This sound was definitely different than he imagined.

🎵You coulda had a bad bitch non- commital

Help you with your career just a little

You're posed to hold, but you're holding me back

And that's the sound of me not calling you back.🎵🎼

(A/N: See Lizzo's Truth Hurts)

Ace found himself tapping his feet and rocking his head. Damn that was definitely different and unique. This is the sound he was looking for, finally. He looked at the name of the singer, Iman Wright. He called his partner Trevor to come in and listen. Ace smiled as Trevor had the same interest listening to the song.

"Damn I love it." Trevor continued to rock to the beat. "We should give this girl a call." Trevor added rubbing his hand together seeing dollar signs already.

"Already on it my friend." Ace smiled happily taking out his cell.
