Chapter 1
The bright light made him squint his eyes before even opening them. He moved around and pulled the blanket over himself before realizing that he wasn't a kid anymore. It was sad but they were the good ol' days. He sat up in his bed and very slowly opened his eyes. All he wanted to do was lay back down and sleep but he wasn't that fortunate. He looked over to see who pulled the curtains open and saw a woman. She gave him a warm smile, making him sigh and get up.
"Good morning, Luke."
Her voice sounded like pins on a chalkboard to him. He simply gave her a nod and a small smile of approval before making his bed. He walked to the bathroom, grabbed his towel and walked inside. He looked in the mirror and glanced over his features. They were relatively sharp and his eyes were piercing too, just like he liked it. He brushed his teeth and got in the shower. The warm water felt good on his body. He walked out of the shower and saw that is towel was missing. He knew where it went.
"Alexa. Give me my towel, please."
The bathroom door opened and the woman peeked in, handing the man his towel. He thanked her and took it, wrapping it around his waist and walking out. He saw her still in the room and shook his head. He had told her many times that regardless of her being his wife, he didn't want her to be in the room with him when he was changing but she never really listened to him so he gave up after a while.
He changed his clothes and wore his suit. He was styling his hair when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at the woman who then proceeded to fix his tie and hair for him. She gave him a warm hug and he hugged back.
"Have a good day, love. Take care." She spoke softly and Luke nodded. He let go of her and gave her a kiss to her forehead before grabbing his phone and leaving. His secretary, Sebastian, was waiting for him downstairs. He walked down and put his shoes on before going out and into the car. Sebastian got in the passenger seat and the driver drove them to the office. All the while Sebastian was telling Luke about his day.
Alexa watched Luke walk out and sighed, her smiled immediately fading. She looked at the maids, her gaze sharp and piercing. The maids looked at her as she walked closer to them. A loud sound echoed off the walls as one of the maids held her cheek in stinging pain.
"Am I supposed to remind you to give me my milkshake?"
Alexa's voice was soft and she gave the woman a sweet smile. She cupped the maid's cheeks and wiped her tears away before patting her head. "Make sure you get it to me in the next ten minutes, darling." She spoke before going to the couch and taking her seat. She grabbed the remote and just shuffled through channels, feeling bored already.
The maid was on top of things. She immediately made the milkshake and took it to Alexa, making sure her hands weren't shaking so she didn't drop the drink. Alexa smiled at her and thanked her before taking the milkshake. The poor maid made her way back into the kitchen, clutching at her chest, the feat finally enveloping her. Alexa was way too intimidating. Luke made sure to tell Alexa that the staff were like her family but the woman couldn't care less.
Every single one of the staff members hated how Alexa treated them. She would get angry very easily and sometimes they didn't even know why. Regardless, they couldn't do anything. She was their boss after all. Sometimes they really wondered how Luke could marry someone like that but then remembered that it wasn't even his choice in the first place.
Luke Reynolds was one of the youngest businessmen in the world, having multiple multinational companies under his name. Keeping his cool exterior as intact as he could, he was of course someone who was emotionally deprived a few times. He couldn't really show his displeasure towards anything because the media would definitely make it big. He liked his job. The only thing he didn't like in his life was his wife.
Alexa and Luke were best friends since childhood. Luke, being the introvert he was, would never talk to anyone. He would have his head buried in books but Alexa was the only one who was able to get him out of his shell. He would spend time with her and he would feel relaxed. Somewhere along the way, they promised to get married to each other but that was when they were children.
Completely ignoring this fact, their parents had made a deal to get them married when they were fresh out of universities. Luke's father handed over the business and Luke was happy but not for long. Everything was going absolutely fine until he found out that he wasn't exactly happy with Alexa. He wasn't as relaxed. He wasn't as comfortable. Whenever he would face an issue, the first thing Alexa did was blame him which he didn't like.
He wanted someone to comfort him and make him feel like he wasn't the worst person in this world. But it definitely wasn't Alexa.
When Luke came home, he went straight to the bedroom and poured himself a glass of wine. He looked out of his glass windows and sighed, sliding one of his hands into his pockets. He sipped his wine, keeping a straight face. He had just lost one of the biggest deals he could've ever made and he was feeling horrible. His lawyer told him he was better off without the merger but he disagreed. He wanted it but he blew it pretty bad.
Sebastian did his best to cheer the man up but he just got pushed to the side like everyone else. Luke would always want to be alone after such a big mess up anyway. Once Luke heard the door open, he looked to see Alexa walk in. He already knew what she would say but still he hoped for some kind of reassurance and comfort.
"What's wrong, babe?" Alexa asked as she wrapped her arms around the man. Luke put his wine glass down on the table and turned around, holding her back. "I blew a deal. My lawyer thought my firm didn't need it but I wanted it. I blew it anyway." He whispered softly. He felt Alexa rub small circles onto his back and closed his eyes for a moment but they reopened after hearing what she spoke.
"It's okay, love. But you do have to listen to your lawyer sometimes. You're too stubborn. That's what lands you in compromising positions."
Luke smiled and let go of her before nodding. It wasn't just a one time occurance. She would always do this which made him lose confidence in himself. He couldn't have that happening especially when he was looking to expand his company to various other countries.
He grabbed his towel and went to take a quick shower. Once he was done, he went to bed without having dinner. He really wasn't hungry and he felt like he'd throw up. Today wasn't as good as he had expected but he was definitely going to improve. He felt Alexa slide into bed with him and closed his e yes.
After all, tomorrow is another day.
