Summary

Charlotte Allison is a bard who wants to break out of the house of her master, who only wants to take advantage of her. When a strange dragon-skinned boy comes through her door and tells her about her amazing father, with whom he has had many adventures. The kid explains that he stole a demon body that consumed his soul, so his only solution was to build a new body for him. But he did not want his new body to be powerless, so he mixed his blood with a dragon. This gave him special abilities. Charlotte's father, the child says, is mentally trapped in a dreamland and the only way to free him is to use her father's bow. But little does she know that the bow also has a soul, and convincing him to help her will be a big task.

Chapter 1

My master was away on business, and so the world opened up to me. I could eat, drink, and sleep as I pleased. I could even invite my friends over and have a party. Oh that’s right, I do not have any friends.

So I sat down next to my master’s desk and rummaged through the drawers to find something interesting or to pass the time.

What I was looking for was a simple assignment sheet he had hidden from me that he believes will suppress my abilities so I will finally have enough money to move out of home. Power is what I need, power to be more than a doormat or a helpless woman who always does what she’s told.

It was dawn, the moon shining brightly through the window, illuminating the room in a special way that makes it easy for someone, who is up to something. That’s right, I am not going to stay here and be your slave forever.

Tall bookshelves surrounded me, my bare foot touched the carpet, which was so soft that I could sleep on it even better than in the bed I got from him. I spent a few minutes searching, when someone knocked on the door.

I stood up so quickly that I felt dizzy. My thoughts circled around what was yet to come. Maybe he will hit me again.

“Charlotte Allison?” came a strange voice throug the door. When I said I had no friends, I meant it. Who would be looking for me this late?

“Who wants to know?”

“Do you want me to describe myself or tell you a name that does not mean anything to you?”

“You can start with your name, I think!”

“All right! I am Zeppeli.”

Silence from both of us. And I thought, shit, that name really does not mean anything to me.

“Can you open up? It’s really weird talking to a door.”

“I like you better when there’s something between us.”

A complete stranger knows my name, knows where I live, and is very rude. I am absolutely sure that I will not let him in.

“Do you want to meet your father?”

Angrily, I got up, rushed to the door and opened it. After a quick glance closed the door in front of him. What I saw made me hold my breath for a second: a small child with dragon skin.

That didn’t bother me enough to pretend I’d nothing better to do, so I picked up a book and started reading it.

“Okay, I’ve stopped playing games with you”

“What’re you ...?”

A big explosion, the door collapsed and the little kid just walked through the hole. I gave him a quick glance and flipped through my book. Still reading, I replied:

“You know, this door cost a lot of money, my master will not be happy about this.”

“Your master whose shit you are trying to steal right now?”

“None of your business!”

“Okay, I’ll get to the point, there’s something I’d like to give you that’s actually yours.”

Still reading and not even making eye contact, I replied:

“What can a strange little child, who I would really question his parents’ choice in love, give me?”

“How about a powerful relic?”

Do not look excited. Act naturally. I raised an eyebrow and said:

“I am all ears.”
