Bavrakha was born to a tribe of Xaela Au Ra that fled their homeland when an invasion by the Garlean Empire swept across their home from the east. Running across the mountains they called home, his tribe and family tried to find refuge in the lands of Coerthas, encountering the nation of Ishgard. Unfortunately, the Ishgardians had been at war with the Dravanians, a clan of dragons, for nearly a millennium. The patches of dark scales and horns that marked the Au Ra people led the Ishgardians to see them as some form of shapeshifted or half-Dravanian attempting to deceive and slaughter them.
The more zealous warriors of Ishgard led an attack on Bavrakha’s tribe leading to their near-total slaughter. Bavrakha’s mother fled with her infant son into the nearby forests within Coerthas. Wounded and dying, she collapsed, holding a crying Bavrakha. She was found by Eir, a Viera woman, a people known for their lagomorph traits, living in solitude in the forest.
Too wounded to be saved, Bavrakha’s mother used the last of her strength to give her infant son to Eir and tell her Bavrakha’s name in the hope that her son might survive.
Eir took the infant Bavrakha and his deceased mother back to her home, where she buried Bavrakha’s mother and raised Bavrakha as best she could, doing her best to keep him away from Ishgardian territory. In time Bavrakha grew into a tall, muscular young man with a good heart.
However, Bavrakha was taken by wanderlust and desired to see what was beyond his forest home. Eir did not want to stifle Bavrakha’s curiosity and agreed to let him go, but she would tell him where to go first as her only condition. Bavrakha agreed and set out on an adventure where his surrogate mother had pointed him.
Eir could only hope that Bavrakha’s path would not lead him back to Coerthas, where the Ishgardians dwelled, still at war with the Dravanians.
Alas, fate would have different plans…
