Prologue
Fly fly fly away, but don’t go
The small boy is happy, but if he only knew life is not fair, the outcome would have been different for everyone.
“Mama, mama, mama,”
“Nuru, I said no running down the stairs,” Mama scolds the little boy, bouncing on his small legs at the bottom of the staircase. His purple eyes sparkle with mischief, and innocence. He has on pink overalls and white socks. His white hair is tied in a ponytail that runs down his back.
“Sorry, mama,” he bites his pinkie finger as he nervously approaches the 5 ′ 2-inch woman wrapped up in a white apron busy mixing cake ingredients. She has her brown hair tied up in a messy bun. Her mocha skin is bright from the morning sun rays. Her silver eyes are a beautiful contrast to her embodiment. “Mama, can I go look for Pili? I took a bath, and dressed up in my beautiful clothes,” the small child takes a deep breath as his mother laughs at his childish excitement. “He said he has a present for me,” he grasps his mother’s apron in his small fists and looks up at her with pleading eyes. “Can I? Can I? Can I? His voice falls an octave into a soft whine.
“Babi, you cannot go look for him with how it is pouring outside. Besides, he will be at your party later on, and then you will get your present,” the young boy stomps his small legs in annoyance with a small pout setting on his heart-shaped lips.
**During the birthday party**
The birthday boy is having fun running around with the other pack kids as the day settles into the afternoon. He plays a few pranks on the elders with his friends. The atmosphere is relaxed with the lights hung around the hall bringing a mystic atmosphere to the place. The tall rainbow cake stands tall amongst the balloons and decorations. Smiles are passed amidst small talk. With laughter the final seal of the night. However, as the evening falls into place the small boy who once had a smile on his face becomes angst with anticipation. His best friend is MIA and he cannot help it as his eyes wander to the entrance.
“Why is Pili not showing up?” the boy wonders as a group of kids pull him into a game of tag. For a while, he is distracted. His laughter mixes with the other kids and adults as the night wears thick.
“Thank you all for showing up to my son’s birthday party. It was an honor to have you, but I think the little ones should be put to bed,” groans of protest rise as the alpha chuckles. “Don’t worry there is an after-party for the adults but after every child is put to bed,” the teens rejoice as the parents round up their kids and make their way to their respective homes. “Nuru, come over Mama is looking for you,”
The alpha joins the other parents looking for their kids. He exchanges a few words with pack members in his quest. He finds his little boy sitting by the window with watery eyes.
“Babi, you did not like the party?” he rushes forward and picks his son in his arms. A sob escapes the little boy as he buries his head in his father’s neck. Alpha carries his son up the stairs to the top floor, which is the alpha suite. His wife, Luna, rushes forward to embrace her husband and son with worry dancing in her silver globs.
“What happened?”
“Mama, he did not show up. I think he is mad at me. Can I wait up in case he brings my present,” sob after sob escapes his tiny lips as tears pool up on his father’s white polo shirt?
“ Babi, I’m sure it is nothing like that. Why don’t you go to sleep and tomorrow we will see what we can do,”
“He’s mad at me, isn’t he?” This was his first night to cry himself to sleep.
