0 - Death Call

In a place far from everything, perhaps even out of the universe, a graceful goddess watched a small glass sphere. Her dark hair and olive skin highlighted her bright golden eyes.

In his quarters, the dark place was illuminated by colored dots that resembled stars and other structures in the universe.

The goddess watched something in her "crystal ball" with great interest, and soon a mischievous smile formed on her lips.

— You will do great things soon, young "Grey".

Transition

It was a dark night, like all the others in this dark city. On an almost deserted street, walked a shadowy figure, wearing black clothes that covered his entire body and the hood of his coat covered his head, generating a shadow that hid his face.

Something about this figure made anyone who approached him uneasy, don't matter how casually he walked, with his hands carelessly in his coat pockets and the hurried walk that anyone at this hour of the night would have in this dangerous city.

Even if someone were to look at this figure from a long distance or through a camera, they would not see more than a simple passerby, much less understand why this figure causes this sensation.

Perhaps it was the way he dressed, leaving almost nothing of his body visible; perhaps it was his sharp eyes, which looked at anyone who approached in a way that was reminiscent of how a predator would look at a herd in search of its next prey.

That figure was called Grey.

Gray walked towards a certain destination, his quick steps kept pace regardless of the unevenness of the sidewalk and his brown eyes analyzed the dimly lit environment that was dimly lit by the spaced streetlamps. He then makes a turn into a dark alley, for no apparent ulterior reason.

He walks down the dark alley with his pace noticeably slowed, he was almost at his destination. He stops only when he arrives in a wider space, which is empty except for himself and a drunk young man, wearing brand clothes that show he has a high social status. The young man was leaning against a garbage can, in a deplorable state and he looked like he had just vomited.

Grey takes his hands out of his pockets, which are covered by a black glove. He then places both hands on the young man's head, one below, one above.

— Oh, who...?

His lips curve into a slight smile, before answering the drunk young man.

— Good night, Johnny.

Without giving time to question to the young man, the figure pulls its hands in opposite directions, turning the youth's head at an unnatural angle.

crack

The sound of bones breaking echoed in the empty alley, where the shadowy figure was now the only living thing in sight.

As calm as he'd arrived, Gray was using his cell phone to send an SMS message.

"Done"

Shortly after the message was confirmed, he smashed the cell phone into the wall, leaving only a mixed remnant of circuitry and plastic, which the figure threw into the trash can.

— Don't worry, buddy, you won't die alone. The one you knew as "Grey", will also cease to exist today. I don't need this disguise anymore.

The coldness in his eyes was in stark contrast to the melancholy in his voice.

He pulls his coat off his body, throwing it in the same garbage can, which reveals his true appearance.

Grey was a young man who appeared to be no more than 16 years old. His hair was black as night, as well as his sharp eyes, which contrasted with his extremely pale skin. Underneath his coat he wore a simple white shirt and a silver necklace could be seen around his neck.

He took out from his pants pocket a plastic lighter, which he lit before tossing it into the trash can, the fire that sprang up starting to light up the place.

— It was nice to know you.

He said to the young man's body on the floor, before turning around and starting to leave.

A shiver down the spine.

That was the feeling that made him stop. Actually, he didn't just "stopped", he was completely frozen, afraid of something he wasn't even seeing.

He struggled to slowly turn around, his body shaking making the task much more difficult.

Apparently, there was nothing wrong in the alley, apart from, of course, the young man's body on the floor. That is until two lights came on in the darkness, in a shadow between two buildings.

When whatever it was began to emerge from the small gap between the buildings, the features of a dog or maybe a wolf could be discerned with some difficulty.

That in itself would be dangerous considering the situation, but not only there was a wolf approaching, this wolf was at least five feet tall.

That young man, even if he was far from ordinary, trembled intensely at the enormous pressure he felt from that beast that magically emerged from the shadows in front of him.

"For most of my short life..." he thought "I thought I didn't fear death."

With his eyes open wide and his body paralyzed by the fear he felt, Grey watched the gigantic wolf, without being able to have any kind of reaction.

"Then why...why can't I move!?"

So the wolf came out of the shadows. With it's body illuminated by the fire, Gray could now see some details, such as the thick black fur that covered the entire body of the creature, and that even these could not hide how muscular the creature was, with long thick and defined legs, which did not help Grey to be less afraid of the creature in front of him.

The creature then bent down, with its legs arched and its mouth almost touching the ground, it growled and salivated as its slightly open mouth showed its huge teeth that almost didn't fit in it.

Watching this scene, Gray felt like he was being crushed. His brain used all its strength to send just one impulse to his frozen muscles.

"Run!"

On a sudden, natural impulse, he mustered the strength to turn and run down the alley and… on his second step, the world around him began to spin as Gray felt light as the wind, until it all went dark.

Transition

Gray woke up suddenly, but noticed something odd. He was no longer in the alley where he had met the creature, but in a white room, decorated with furniture of the same color. Among them was a white desk, with a padded office chair, also white, behind it.

Gray was sitting on a couch, not understanding anything, as much as he tried to understand, the situation he found himself in just didn't make sense.

"It's better to give it up..."

For the sake of his own sanity, Gray decided to give up on understanding what had happened to him, letting out a long sigh.

Suddenly, a strong wind came up, shaking Grey's hair, and he closed his eyes for a moment.

When he opened his eyes again, he could not believe it, for in front of him was a figure that he could only define as divine. A tall woman, with hair as dark as night, a perfect olive complexion that highlighted her sparkling golden eyes. Her beauty was not reduced to just her appearance, her entire body exuded an aura of elegance and charm that would enchant anyone.

The woman, seeing that Gray had his eyes fixed on her beauty, expressed a smile that left the young Grey mesmerized.

— Hello, young mortal, I am known as Vannah, the goddess of death.
