Prologue

The story is set in 18th century timeframe (around when the Britain’s East India company was trying to take over India from the Mughals who were then ruling the region.)

The British Raj started in India from 1858 till the time of independence (1947). The time of this story is before the British rule was established officially.

The British first landed in Surat, India in 1608 for trade. So, before they established their rule, they sent many admirals to scope out the possibilities and how to break the Indian kingdoms. So, since this story is set in 18th century (1701-1800) time frame.

Jeffrey Meyerson, British Admiral, 1st Baron of Meyerson, was sent to India to evaluate the current trading situation and to sort the differences between the king and the British East India company to further establish the trade between the two.

Maya Devi was a daughter of the priest at the local temple who caught the fancy of Prince Azam, the King’s son. While everyone thought her to be lucky for she could live a life of riches, she was sad for she always wanted to marry someone her heart desired.

Till date, her friend another priest’s son Mukunda was her only friend whom she trusted, but ever since Mukunda was ordered to work at the King’s palace as a cook, she couldn’t meet him anymore. So, she was even thinking of ending her life, for she despised the Prince. But, what happens when she meets Admiral Jeffrey, does she become friends with him as well or despise him too..

Read on to know more about Maya Devi’s choices and her life..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------A/N: Mughals were Muslims who invaded India during 16th-17th century and there were many Hindus amongst their court or among the people. Some of the Mughal emperors were tolerant towards Hindus, some were not so..

The story may not be historically accurate, but I tried to be as close as possible to the times then, so kindly be gentle and read it as a love story set in those times..
