Chapter 1

It's been years since the love of my life left me.

Four long years without her beautiful smile that lit up a room that pair with her contagious laugh. Four long years without her flaming hair that glowed under the warm sunlight. Four long years without smelling her sweet floral perfume as the wind gently blowed past us as we sat against the old oak tree.

I would give anything to hear her voice. To stare into her green eyes. To feel the warmth of her pale, freckled skin in my hands.

I still remember when we would run through plain fields together. When we would dance out in the icy and foggy rain. When we would bake cupcakes together even though she was awful at it.

And of course, I remember when she told me she was in love.

-

"So you had something to tell me?" I said sitting down on the wall of the large water fountain that was owned by our high school. I stuff my cold veiny hands in the pockets of my dark brown coat as I waited in anticipation. She looks down at me in excitement while making her way to the spot beside me.

"Erica! I'm in love," she sat next to me. Staring at me with her bright green eyes that only glowed brighter from the sun, her cheeks turned a light pink from the cold air nipping at her skin.

Air got caught in my throat. Could this be it? Could she finally be mine?

Before I could say anything, she continued.

"Sebastian just makes me feel so giddy and warm," she sighs while staring down at her busted sneakers with a smile that grew on her pink, plump lips. While hers grew, mine faded.

"That's great," I lie through my teeth. "Are you planning on telling him?" I asked. Even though I didn't want to know the answer to that question, I already did. I shook my head back to remove the layers of my black shag from my face.

"Yes!" She cheered while clasping her soft, chubby hands together. She rubs them together to spark some warmth in her palms. "I actually wanted to ask for your help. I'm going to tell him tomorrow night at the party."

I nod, squinting my eye as I gently bite down on my bottom lip and swirl my lip ring with my tongue in frustration.

"So?" She says catching my attention. I look up at her with my brows furrowed. When she saw my confusion, she spoke once again with her melodic voice. "Will you help me?"

How could I say no to her? Her beauty is beyond compare. She is like a siren, luring everyone in. Especially me. She has me wrapped around her finger.

"Of course. Whatever you wish, Nayeli."

-

I should have said no. But how could I? How could I tell her that the guy she loved was a piece of shit? How he bullied me for years.

How could I put her through that and make her choose? What if she didn't choose me? What if he told her how I am a lesbian? How I love her? Would she be scared that I'm a creep or something? Would she view me differently?

I just wish I could go back in time. Tell her that it was a terrible idea. Tell her that it's me that she should be in love with.

But as her best friend, all I said was 'as you wish' with my heart clenched.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
