A SECOND THOUGHT

A second thought .

If all young women wtake their time to get to their mature age before going in for man , not just a lame man but a man who works hard and cares for his home the world would have be different.

“Just imagine how beautiful a ripped mango is , everyone wants to pluck it but they are all scared of the owner who planted it “.

She added,

“that’s life Agnes , when you gets to your youthful age every man calls you the most beautiful creature on earth and wants to lay with you but if you have a protectorate like the mangoes owner , only the wisest man who comes to seek permission would be allowed to pluck it , Agnes , take your time to grow and my daughter you will see you will find yourself a humble

hardworking man who make you his queen and put a ring on your finger“.

Auntie preached to Agnes everyday before she leaves to school , market and church but Agnes cared less about Auntie’s advice.

she said ,

“ work whiles they are enjoying and enjoy whiles they are working “.

She was so stubborn and didn’t take the advice Auntie gave her . Auntie warned her of how she mingled with those old men , who pays any amount of money to get these young women . Agnes used to collect money and gifts from these old men especially Mr. Tom and co who owned the mart next to the Calvary High School , she played with them like how a husband and wife would do. Agnes who was 17 years didn’t listen to her mother’s advice but rather turned deaf ears to her. Agnes couldn’t complete high school though she was getting money from the old men she dated which she used to pay her tuition fees but that was nothing good to bragged about after she failed her final exams ,Agnes spent more time romancing and spent less time reading her books which made her failed the High School Certificate exams for the third time and became a dropout . It’s so sad Auntie died early , she always talks about how she will pamper her grandchildren but unfortunately for her, she died even before Agnes conceived . Her relatives accused her for killing her mother , they said

“Agnes stubbornness that killed her mother ,look at what you’ve done to your mother , a broken heart “.

Decade passed but her character remained the same. Agnes didn’t make a second thought about how she lives her life and didn’t change even after her mother’s death like the folks thought she would . She continued sleeping with the old men who was 20 years older than her till She became pregnant and had her first child at the age of 19 .

At 27 years ,she put an end to her lousy attitude because of the love she had for her beloved son , Williams who was 8 years then. Williams knew nothing about his father and had no idea on his resemblance with his father , William’s friends used to asked him this primary question .

“ Do you resemble your papa or mana“.

He was told that his unknown father is in abroad working hard to cater for his education, that’s what her mother told him and this was his only encouragement and believed that he would see his father one day in his life time . Williams always tell his friends at school that his father is working hard in abroad to cater for his needs and bragged about joining his father in abroad when he’s done with JHS, though he didn’t like his mother’s work and complained about it to his friends that his mother always comes home late from work and always tired that sometimes she don’t even spend time on the dinner table with him .

Williams asked his friends to help him pray on behalf of her mother’s work because he’s worried about it and wished she could change it . Agnes works at the restaurant opposite the petrol station which operates 24/7 , it seems no one talked about her past relationship with the old men after her baby William became a boy .

What made them speaks no more on her topic , oh poor Agnes who used to be the topic of day and the week which continued to be the topic of the year, the young girl who slept with men old enough to be her father did she regret any doings?.

The question which anyone thought her son might be the reason why she changed for good , Agnes decided to keep an end to her relationship with old men when Williams was 4 years old .

“It would be a shame when my son sees me with a man old enough to be my son’s grandfather “.

she uttered as she continued to permanently delete all the old men numbers on her phone .

Williams closed friend was Mill , he visits Mill on Saturday to play games with him when Agnes leaves for work.

Sarah who moved in to make final preparations towards her late husband’s funeral needed someone to help her packed the clothes she will send to the charity house . Sarah’s late husband was Mr. Ransford , a retired teacher at Calvary High School . The two had two children Jack and Jessy both of them were writing their final semester exams as both of them were twins. Sarah sent an invite to Mrs. Sandra who was Mill’s mother to come help her to move his husband’s stuffs to a different room and packed the ones charity needed .

As it was Saturday ,Mrs. Sandra called Williams and Mill to escort her to Sir Ransford’s house . The four met and started moving things from one room to a different room until Mill and Williams picked up a magazine which was hidden under Sir Ransford’s bed .

Without a second thought the two opened the magazine and saw some naked pictures of lady , the looks on their face changed Mill couldn’t believed what he saw , Williams was shocked and the two became speechless for a minute . The two saw a naked picture of Agnes the girl who didn’t listen to her mothers advice , and later on conceived a baby after her mother died .

Williams saw naked pictures of her mother in Sir Ransford’s magazine , he couldn’t believed what he saw and started guessing who his father would be .

He angrily in a sad mood left Mrs. Sarah’s house to dial up his mother with the telephone in their house , Miss Agnes picked up the call but became speechless when his son started asking her questions about his father whereabouts , Sir Ransford and how she lived her life when she was young . She accepted all the accusations his son put on her and begged him to forgive her ,

She said,

“ If I did make a second thought this wouldn’t have happened, I was stubborn , I thought life would be younger forever but now I’m ageing and regretted everything I did in my youthful age . I’m working hard like a slave trying to impress her master so she can get a chance to go to the kitchen for a meal , my mother told me ,

“ Work whiles they are enjoying and enjoy whiles they are working because when they realize the importance of working hard it would be too late for them ”.

I didn’t listen to words my mother gave me now I’m working hard like a slave whiles my mates are enjoying big wages for working 8 hours only , son I can’t erase what I did in the past bad but for tomorrow I can be a new different person for people to value me “.

She begged her son to forgive her and also asked Mrs. Sandra for forgiveness which was hard to let go.

Before you think of any act pray to God to give you a second thought . Because what looks prettier today would be of no taste tomorrow.
