1st Bite
Long ago, Humans faced an invasion they couldn’t overcome. This powerful force was all made of blood sucking demons that took down all Humanity within mere hours. Among these creatures, the royal family had most prominence, these vampires consumed unimaginable amounts of blood, which made them possess monstrous strength and speed of light healing abilities. No Human could withstand an attack from a vampire, it would be certain death.
After dominating all of Humanity, the vampire army took away all the weapons in Human possession, sealing them away so there would be no rebellions. Aside from that, they also separated the lands into three kingdoms, each ruled by one heir of the royal family.
Seth, first born of the royal blood and Crown Prince, ruled over Sienna and he had created a system of blood donation so the two species could coexist in peace. This system was simple, once a week each person living in Sienna had to go to the royal palace to have their blood taken. That way, no Humans nor vampires had to suffer any casualties.
Today marks twenty years since the vampires took over and today I’m going to the palace for the first time.
My name’s Kristal and I live with my grandparents in the countryside. According to the rules, every person over eighteen years old, had to obey the system and go donate blood once every week.
To say that I am scared would be an understatement, I am terrified. Everybody always told me that vampires are brutes who enjoy watching Humans in agony, but I can’t tell, to me they are unknown creatures that do whatever they can to survive, just like us. Even so, I cannot help but to be frightened.
In the first rays of dawn, two vampires came to our little cottage house and told me to get ready to leave. I was surprised by how diligent they were. So, in a few minutes I got dressed, ate breakfast and left with them.
As we walked, thousands of questions flooded my mind. “What will happen to me?”, “Will the Crown Prince be there?”. My grandparents had explained to me how the process goes, but I was still curious to see it happen. It all seemed like a whole new world to me, nothing like this had ever occurred in my life.
Merely some seconds have passed and the handsome vampire on my right talked to me:
-You smell quite good, your blood must be of the finest quality
As he said that, with a smirk on his face, my body shivered. I’ve never felt this much fear, I truly wanted to answer something in return, but my lips were sealed. So the other vampire said in my turn:
-Oh look at what you’ve done, now she’s scared. If she runs away you go after her!
-Fine, at least that way I will be able to have some fun, this job is boring anyway!- said the first one
-I don’t plan on running away, I am scared but it’s not like I’ll die from this, so nothing to worry about
At last I managed to say something.
The two of them seemed intrigued with my words, but they didn’t say anything back. So, the rest of our way until the palace was made in total silence.
As soon as we got there my jaw dropped. The place was enormous, there were guards everywhere and worst of all, all eyes were on me. I felt like a circus attraction.
The two guards with me told me where to go and left. I guess they trusted I wouldn’t run away.
When I went inside, I immediately lost my way. Those large and white halls blinded me with their brightness and the floor was so clean I feared I would slip on it. Everything about that place stuck a certain fear in me, yet, at the same time, I also felt calm. Even though I wanted to keep exploring this magnificent place, I had to find the room I was supposed to go to.
Just when I was about to panic, a flawless and gracious person appeared in front of me. His hair was pitch black, his eyes were crimson red, his features were defined perfectly, but above all that deep and calm voice, which put me in shivers. He asked me:
-Are you lost?
Such a simple question, yet so difficult to answer. My senses were heightened, every part of me was so focused on him that my mouth refused to speak.
-Hey! Human! Are you lost?- he asked again
-I…am…I am here to give blood
-Oh right, you’re the girl from the countryside, you just turned eighteen today correct?
-You know about me?!
-The Crown Prince has to know about all his pawns- he said with a cold smile
His gaze was fierce and his words were harsh, yet that made me excited. I enjoyed his cruel words and I trembled at his stare. I might be crazy to think this, but I wanted him to keep talking, anything he wished, just so I could keep hearing his enchanting voice.
