Short Story
One by one they fell... There were so many dead bodies on the cold concrete I couldn’t walk outside to get the mail. I was so confused yet curious.
Then I saw the old man who lived across the street drop too but, for some reason, I went to check out what was wrong with him. You know, I’m not this man’s favorite teenage boy. I won’t go into much detail but let’s say he’s had to clean the outside of his house every Halloween. When I got to the man he turned to me abruptly and said “It did it...” The way the old man said it left a premonition feeling in my gut.
I just sat there entranced by what the old man said. What did he mean it did it? Was there a beast? or a sickness? Was there something that wasn't being told? I kept questioning what the man said. I was so mesmerized that when my mother jolted me I didn't recognize her for a moment.
"Honey there's something I have to tell you," my mother said seriously. "What is it Ma?" "There's this bug going around where it makes people laugh to death. Once you start laughing you don't stop until you drop." I just looked at her in amazement.
Then I had a sudden urge to laugh. I laughed so hard I couldn't stop. It was uncontrollable. Then I dropped dead.
